yeah. WJ is just trying to make an argument about the TF heritage, and how its not outlandish (ginrai was IN an anime correct?). you (for some reason) are taking it as a personal attack. and who actually told you that you HAVE to like this figure?bvzxa wrote:Really??megatronus wrote:What the internet "gets" is that you are incredibly rude. Shame on you.

This God Ginrai isn't a statue, it's an action figure.
I personally like it when Transformers borrow design ques from other Mecha, especially Gundam, Gundam is one of the biggest Mecha properties out there, with some of the best robot designs period. Even HasTak transforming figures have had Gundam elements (Energon and Movie especially), never saw anyone complain about those.
Plus this has some basis in actual fiction, a lot of the Masterforce episodes actually went full on Gundam with Ginrai.
And I have to say, this looks even better in colour than I expected it to, I really want this for my oddities shelf.
Emerje wrote:I agree with bvzxa, it does look like a Gundam done up in God Ginrai colors. As soon as I saw that design with the new sword the first thing that came to mind was Gundam Astray Red Frame:
I really don't get the design. The EM Gokin figures were accurate to their character designs while the EX Gokin figures are accurate to the Transformers Cartoon. God Ginrai appears to be an entirely new design that's far more stylized than any official art. I would be much more accepting of something from the show or magazine art.
And really, I don't see how Transformers starting off as an amalgamation of different Japanese robot lines has anything to do with this. This isn't a pre-existing robot toy being renamed God Ginrai. I also don't see how Star Saber being inspired by Gundam makes anything OK. Transformers is a massive franchise of its own, it doesn't need to look like other robot lines. I don't have a problem with non-transformable Transformers, but there is such a thing as over stylized to the point that it doesn't even look like it's supposed to turn into something.

At least, I hope.

It's also great how anything that's remotely stylized is immediately called a Gundam, reminds me of those people who saw Pacific Rim and called it Power Rangers.
Fun fact: A robot can have a stylized aesthetic without looking like a Gundam, can you believe it?

It's a limited run garage kit being sold at Wonder Festival, The guy who made it has absolutely no ties to Takara Tomy.

This intrigues me, could you give me a few examples ?

jeeze you guys. this is the one of the dumbest things ive seen become fan-polarizing.CrankyOldTruck wrote:Go ahead, jump in my sh** about how TF's took from other lines. I f***ing DARE YOU!
So suck on that!! Jerks!
-Kanrabat- wrote:There's stylized and there's ! I not a fan of Gundam. I barely saw any Gundam. But by god, that Goking Ginrai look so much like a Gundam, it look like a straight repaint of an actual Gundam!
-Kanrabat- wrote:Those who said that Pacific Rim looked like Power Rangers were out of it. Those mecha look NOTHING like any PR mechs.
-Kanrabat- wrote:Still, it IS being made. Which mean Masterforce is still popular.
THAT'S what give me hope for a future God Ginrai MP from Takara. Because Ginrai IS G1 and popular!

Yes, I read through every post in this thread and I agree with bvxza 100% on his assessment of this figure and how he was treated for making the comments he made. It was unwarranted and you all should be ashamed of yourselves. This figure is an absolute waste of time and plastic and IN MY OPINION looks like crap. So suck on that!! Jerks!

I sure can!
Energon Mirage is the first I think of:
Look at them legs and feet

ROTF Hubcap, again the feet, although I think the head looks like a bit of a "moviefied" Mobile Suite head.
The head on ROTF Brawn/ Outback always looked like a Japanese Supermecha head to me, just without the long pointy antennae.

The mold has a few other features about it that feel very Super Robot to me, doesn't come across like it in pics all to much, it's more when you have it in hand and fiddle about with it. It's really surprising. It's a fantastic mold and would make an awesome army builder.
Movie 1 Protoform Starscream's chest is another example, I mean paint that thing blue, white, and read, and it would look like something from one of the more modern Gundam incarnations.

Same goes for Wreckage
http://www.seibertron.com/transformers- ... ge/1116/1/
I see a bit in the legs, but it's mostly the chest and shoulders.
Now apparently according to Cybergundam, this isn't from Artstorm, but a Wonderfest garage kit from some guy....
