round one
Spartan (not the chief) vs a 40K Space marine... lets say of the Ultramarine chapter.

round two
same as the first only chaos space marine of the black legion.

I know this concept my have been done, but not before I got into warhammer 40k

Gotta give it to the 40k Marines here. They're genetically bred for war.

A seven foot tall, nearly bullet proof, acid spitting soldier. That's before factoring in their power armor.

Non John-117 Spartans are very squishy in the fiction. I`d give it to the Space Marine.

a space marine would win on the grounds that even though the spartan in faster and more agile, a SM would just grab and punch and the sheer force of a SM weighing in at over a metric tonne would tear the spartan apart and if we arre looking at weaponary then let me remind you that a spartan may have slightly bigger weapons than your average troop but still uses basic rounds where as a SM uses a bolter which fires rounds which a equivilent to tank shalls for christs sake and even without ammo if you pistol whipped a spartan with that thing you crack the guys head in half. As for melee weapons the SM power weapons are unmatched and if someone is going to compare a gravity hammer (halo) to a thunder hammer (warhammer 40k) then dont because they are not the same and are not similar, the gravity hammer disrupts the gravity around the target causing them to fly up in the air and come crashing down and a thunder hammer has a power field that explodes on impact breaking through any armor. If a SM is using a power fist aswell then it is designed to punch through tank armor, so a spartan shouldnt be a problem and a SM is built to not only inflict insane damage and pain but can also take a **** tonne of it and where as if a spartans arm was cut of then only a matter of time before it bleeds to death where as a SM is made so that when that happens it bleeds a little and then the wound seals itself up and if i cut of a spartans legs and arms and told it to give up, it would where as a SM would keep fighting until there was nothing left of itself. a SM is programmed to not feel fear but to fight for the win or die trying..... now dont get me wrong i think spartans a cool as f**k but if you pit one against a SM it would most probably loose.

I wouldn't count on that. Astartes are exceptionally fast, and have outstanding reflexes as well. Even their power armor makes them able to run faster/jump higher etc.. Their Black Carapace organ allows them to interface with their armor with very little response time.

An Astartes may seem big and bulky, but they are as inhumanly fast as they are big. In fact one of the Horus Heresy books suggests that seeing such a massive creature move so fast can cause psycological shock.

I've read and seen a lot of what Spartans are capable of, and I know a good deal about them. However, I've been doing my research on Space Marines, and after seeing what they could do, Space Marine takes this easy. Especially if it's a veteran, it wouldn't even be a fight. And sorry, but the result would be the same even it was Master Chief.

Take this comparison example just for fun: Samus Aran from Metroid has the power to one shot kill the Chief with her weakest weapon, which is proven, as her weapons run on terrawatts, and Spartans can die from megawatts, it would be overkill (I know it ignores physics, but so does most sci-fi anyways, so bear with me). From what I hear, a more experienced Space Marine could beat her. That said, what reasonable chance does a Spartan have? The Space Marine would CRUSH the Spartan. An Astartes (Space Marine) can move like a blur, the normal human eye can't even comprehend it, plus they're far stronger by leagues, and their armor is too powerful. I'm pretty sure I read that their bare chest is bullet proof, too. Not to mention their standard bullet ammunition is basically diamond tipped armor piercing mini missiles that explode inside their target. So much as one, or two at the most would obliterate the Spartan.

I'm not trying to be biased here, I like Halo stuff and all, but I'm just saying when you step back and compare the combatants' attributes, feats, and capabilities, it is clear who the victor is.

Not to turn this into a discussion on Metroid, but no. A single bolt of garden-variety lightning can be measured in megawatts, and those burn at upwards of 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit. You're suggesting that her basic power beam is over a million times more powerful than that. A single blast would not only kill whatever she aimed it at, but would burn the entire surrounding area into a big molten puddle, if not entirely igniting the entire atmosphere.

As for the fight proper, while I don't know much about 40K space marines, I do recall an ad where they went over the abilities of Space Marines, so I have to say they take this one.

To be fair, Metroid blatantly defies physics, it's truly ridiculous. Blame the creators of Metroid for making such outrageous figures, I'm not the one suggesting this, they are. I'm just pointing out the in game facts and info I know. The description of the Volt Driver in Prime Hunters specifically states that it "fires multi-terrawatt bursts of energy". Considering she has stronger weapons than that, it becomes even more absurd. But it's fictional sci-fi, stuff like screwing physics over is common.

There's no point trying to bring real physics into a fictional debate, especially the outrageous ones that spit in the face of physics. If you bring reality into a world not bounded by it, then it defeats the whole purpose of debating fantasy battles in the first place. Your "correction" seems to be based on the assumption that this fight is taking place in Earth's atmosphere, not some alien planet that fits into sci-fi stuff.

Forgive the off topic post...

I have no idea why you decided to bring Samus into this thread. Honestly, none. Perhaps you'd be best to pit her against some worthy foe in a thread of your own, hm? ;)

I'd have to give this one to the Space Marine, regardless of Chapter. Johnny and his lot are tough, no doubt about it, but if anyone has read anything from the 40K universe involving Space Marines (which is kinda hard not to do when you think about it), they'd know just how formidable they are.

Not like I was trying to make this her fight, no need to be rude... My explanation is this: my logic was mentioning her as a simple comparison example. The fact that a Spartan could be killed by her so easy, only to have a Chapter such as an Ultramarine be capable of defeating her, stack this thread even more heavily in the Space Marine's favor. That's all I was getting at, can make simple comparisons in mention for the benefit of the debate?

Eh, I'll drop it now...

On topic, I agree. Regardless of Chapter or rank, it won't matter. Space Marine stomps this.

If the Spartan is Masterchief, he'd win. He took out the Flood, pretty sure he can deal with one space marine.

Oh, wow. If only I had the vocabulary and eloquence necessary to describe the ways in which Master Chief would be annihilated by any Space Marine, but I do not. Suffice to say, it would be one of the most one-sided matches in the existence of one-sided matches. If a Space Marine was entered into, Say, the Halo 3 game, I am completely confident that you would finish every level on the highest difficulty without even coming close to dying. For a start, you would be moving several times faster than everything else, so all of your enemies would be plodding along. The heaviest-armoured vehicles would be obliterated with a few shots from a bolter, and they wouldn't even have time to get a shot off before they were destroyed. Space Marine armour could probably absorb every ballistic weapon in the game. And close quarters? Forget about it. 20 Halo Spartans may have a chance, but only if they use strategy.

How do these characters stay in their armour and full helmets all day, every day? I had trouble with a Covid mask! How do they scratch their faces? How do they blow their noses? How do they rub their eyes? A cough or sneeze could obscure their visor vision. It's quite impractical.

Anyway, the outcome of the fight depends on many factors, especially weapons. The correct missile can win the battle almost immediately. Remember that armour only protects from fairly minor impacts. A major blow can crush a warrior's organs against his own bones. The outcome of this is unpredictable.
