Nothing Studio Series interests me except Rumble.
Shocked by everything in that SG box except Rodimus, I was already gonna grab Rodimus but now I'm even more excited.
Gonna have to grab Pulsecon Hot Shot just for Jolt, I guess I'll use him as Excellion.
Nova Prime isn't my thing, but he looks cool and I know people have been hoping for him for a while.
Already own the only Stunticon I wanted.
Nacelle and the sniper girls pack will be mine...tomorrow, because I know I'll have gift cards I can utilize.

Magnus is supposed to release in the same SS wave as everything else they revealed, which is the Fall-Winter wave of this year, not next year. His (unlabeled) listing leaked at the same time as the (also unlabeled) listings for Nemesis and Armada Prime.

Unless you guys already know that and you're just saying you don't expect him to release on time?

Dunno, siege was always vastly undersized and needed the third party add ons to make him proportionate.

Half disagree and half "that's my point". Making the Siege mold taller was a small matter of taste, but I'm pretty sure it didn't make him taller than SS86 Grimlock like the new Commander Class figure is. But making his bot mode a giant didn't make his alt mode function better as a car carrier, he's a little too compact. So again, what was the point? Why make his bot mode oversized and still fail to make him look like a proper car carrier? That's why I feel like they made him taller simply to be a commander, not out of any kind of accuracy which goes against the whole point of Studio Series in the first place!

That said, it IS a superior alt mode the Kingdom figure in every way. The Siege figure's alt mode is based on RID 2001 Ultra Magnus and the Kingdom figure being based on that figure also means it's basically a G1 truck with an RID 2001 trailer.

For me doing this figure so soon after the WFC mold is fine in concept, but the execution is all wrong. I don't see the bot mode as superior in any way, just the alt mode, but I don't display my figures in alt mode so I'll be sticking with the Kingdom figure. Would have made more sense to make it accurate in both modes which would mean making the bot smaller and maybe leaving some plastic behind to include the white Prime since that truck already looks like it has a fairly ridiculous number of parts. This wasn't a figure that needed to come out this year, it should have been left more time to simmer or scrapped all together since it doesn't do anything better than the Kingdom figure aside from have a better looking (but not all that functional) alt mode. There's plenty of live action or even Gamer Edition characters that could have been placed in the Studio Series Commander slot instead.

Hasbro executives: “Yes but only if we use reuse the molds from the past 3 years!! We spent our entire budget on the skids mold, the arcee mold both from WFC and Prime universe and oh let’s add a mini and blast effects to an existing deluxe to jack the price up $10-$20.”

I like how someone pointed out that in Nightbird's stock images you can see a split hinge and some stress marks around the pin on her left leg!
Guessing these early copies used for the stock photos musta been factory rejects huh?

Just elbowing Hasbro for their usual shoddy handling, mistransforming and terrible posing of figures to their product packaging photos.

I agree Magnus' alt mode is better looking and more accurate to G1 appearance, and it's nice you can actually fit a car inside the trailer. Being as I do not display my bots in alt mode nor do I intend to fill it up with cars, it simply isn't a must have for me over the perfectly acceptable Kingdom UM.

In bot mode there isn't enough of a different to warrant the additional purchase especially at a higher price. Though I do like the legs more on Commander version.

I’m one who is really looking forward to this Commander Class Ultra Magnus.
Imo he’s exponentially more of an improvement/upgrade than what we got from SS86 Kup, Cliffjumper, Arcee, or even Ironhide.
Whether his height has been confirmed or not, he is a tall bot.
Not sure he should be much taller than Grimlock and the Dinobots, but there’s at least a little visual evidence around that would suggest he’s at least as tall if not taller.

I don’t think the Kingdom bot mode was all that bad. But the truck mode wasn’t great, and the trailer was horribly bad. It was incomplete, and for being an “Earth” version, it was a janky mess.
This new version has a lot going for it, even though I can totally admit the trailer isn’t quite as big as I had expected. But the proportions of everything look solid. The trailer is really pretty functional.

While I can understand why some people are mad because of this release, I don’t think Hastak is wrong or stupid for this.
As someone already pointed out, Hastak is always going to make moves that prioritize business, aka profits. I don’t think it’s a stretch or overstatement that SS86 has done well.
Multiple professionals have decided this was a good decision.
And as far as anyone claiming this caters to the 40+ years-old…
Hell yes it does. As it should.
Because I’m not the only one who is about done with buying TF forever.
If you don’t think Hastak is taking demographics and target consumers into account, and timing into account, you’re either being blinded by what you want, or you’re an idiot.
We all could legitimately complain about something, and/or play the blame game.
Everything I’ve seen for a while now has shown people who are G1 fans are relatively understanding that the franchise is branching-out.
There are more non-G1 fans whining than G1 fans whining that “Everything should be G1”.

Yeah, Companies base their moves on following the Money so they're going to try and release what nets them the most profits. I don't feel it has to do with a specific team preferring G1 at all, they don't choose what get made or when it's release, bean counters do that.

I mean I've often been frustrated at how often we see the usual suspect and commented on this very thing, and I'm a G1 fan above all else. But even I get tired of seeing constant Bumblebees on the shelf. lol

Honestly I'm gonna be picking up UM anyway. I love the Siege mold, and I love the Kingdom retool too, but funny enough I have none of them as the ultra of magnuses himself so it makes this purchase a lot easier for me. (Speaking of the Siege mold, I'm sure even HasTak is aware on how well that one sold too considering they're using it again for Nova Prime, so if you don't like the new UM just pay for the Siege mold again ;) )

****, I'm gonna be picking up another Ultra Magnus, aren't I? But it looks like this is the final word on the subject. He looks amazing.

Nova Prime. I have the old Maketoys 3rd party version. And this version ... just isn't doing it for me. I want to like it. I want to have an official version of this character. The 3P one is too small. But this guy is just not doing it for me. Glad they're doing an official version of him, though. Definitely deserves it.

I preordered Nacelle for the Seeker army. Even though it totally misses the point of the toy. They were too focused on the "of it's the character from the Cybertron scene in G1" and not enough of "it's the toy from the catalogue and they mixed Ramjet wings with a regular Seeker head". I get that it's IDW Nacelle. Maybe they'll make "G1 Nacelle"? But maybe G1 Sunstorm first, please?

Rumble and Ratchet - I'll preorder when I see them. It'll be that last Ratchet I get. Until the dead version, of course.

SS86 UM is arguably the "definitive version"-level (from Hasbro mainline anyway) well done. The only 2 legit complaints about this UM I think are:

1) the price and the lack of the inner robot *at* that price point. We can argue toy/toon accuracy, but Motormaster got a truck & a super hefty trailer for the same price. Same for Armada OP; in comparison, this UM seems very mid for a Commander in terms of complexity, play pattern and value and

2) How often we got UMs in the last few years? I can imagine completists are legit mad about seeing Siege, ER, SG and now SS86 UMs in the span of just 6~7 years? Leaders & Exclusives aren't exactly cheap nowadays. And now it's a Commander.

I'm glad I only got Siege UM, and I still love it to this day. It's much easier for me to consider Siege as the Cybertronian UM and SS86 as the G1. I'd be mad if I got ER UM instead of Siege. Still, I don't like to have versions of the same character on my CHUG shelf except troop builders. So, as I said before, I'll get this SS86 version only on sale, then if/once I have it in-hand, I'll repaint the Siege version into Delta Magnus.

Those complaining of G1 fatigue.... why are you reading/commenting on anything SS86? You KNOW the sub-line's not for you, and there are no lack of non-G1 products Hasbro come out every single year to comment on.

Is this a time warp or something? Did you mean to post this 10 years ago? We've gotten a ton of Beast Wars characters so far with no sign of that ending any time soon. Other eras have been increasingly well represented, especially the Unicron Trilogy. The only valid complaint here is the lack of real Pretenders, but I think it's just a matter of time.

We got the main characters from the cartoon series, why not go further with new molds. They cancelled polar claw, I mentioned other characters besides the main cast such as clawjaw, transquito, magnaboss, torca or razor beast.

It's 4 Ultra Magnus (Ultra Magni? We need a plural of Ultra Magnus!) In 4 years...soon to be 5 in the same time fram. For those keeping track it's Siege, Premium Finish, Spoiler Set, Kingdom. It can be more if you include mold uses as we got Shattered Glass but that isn't in that number above as it represents 2 different characters (SG UM and Delta Magnus).

Imo people get way too hung up on versions and releases…
Any use of a single mold of the same character is still the same figure. When the paint apps are substantially altered such as with the SG line, I would call that a different figure, but mainly because the intent is to represent a different character.
When you’re talking about any G1 character, a SG figure doesn’t count.
Typing that out as if it’s not self-explanatory is almost stupid.
All this to say, anyone complaining that Commander Class Ultra Magnus is “waste of a release”, or “too much of this character”, is being pretty myopic in their thinking.
“Ultra Magnus” being part of a figure’s name doesn’t mean that figure is a G1 U.M.
Because of the stylization, especially of the alt mode, I personally think it’s a stretch to call the Seige version a G1 Ultra Magnus.
If that was truly G1, the ER version wouldn’t exist, and this new SS86 version probably would’ve been pushed off further (and possibly never made at all).
For me, this new figure is the second G1 Ultra Magnus that’s been released post CW (which ended in 2016?).
Considering how drastically different and improved it is, no, it’s too much or too soon.

The Siege version was more intended to be a Cybertron mode Magnus like the rest of the Siege range...Kingdom was supposed to be earth mode Magnus. Hasbro would have counted both of them as "G1" Magnus in terms of people's collections. I do think that they should have given the slot to a much better character, someone who needed the price point. If it had to be a g1 character from the movie, maybe Astrotrain would have fit better. While I'm okay with the Siege version, there is no denying that a bigger budget could only improve things as far as hiding parts when in train or shuttle form. However we got...this.

So, c'est a vie.

But who intended the Siege version to be Cybertronian?
And don't get me wrong, I get that designing these figures based on established characters, that designers are going to go back to the well, so the bot mode definitely resembled the G1 character.
But Cybertronian still isn't necessarily G1. Again, the evidence is the ER version.
I didn't put it in my last post, but the alt mode obviously plays into the iteration of a character. It's a more extreme example, but Siege Soundwave isn't G1 because of that lame alt mode.

I also think some people have slightly lost sight of what Hastak is going to produce at different price points...
Meaning, some want one of the really large characters done at Commander Class scale, but don't consider that more plastic eats away at then what's allotted for engineering, paint, weapons, pack-in's, etc.
Do people really want CC figures to be huge, but essentially really basic, up-scaled younger kid figures? Even though you'd think the cost would get you everything, it doesn't. You won't get get size, engineering, paint, accessories, etc.; something will have to give.
And of course, like everyone, I want more bang for my buck. I truly wish $85 resulted in having a figure that really closed-in on MP level.
Hell, the main reason I'm looking to retire from this game is because I'm less and less okay with these costs... Spending $26+ for one deluxe figure doesn't sit well with me... These are toys.
Sure, I've said it's worth it to me to spend $50+ on each SS86 Dinobot... But that's not me saying those figures are actually worth that amount.

Back to UM, I'm just trying to be objective in this...
I don't love this character, and this isn't a figure I've been waiting for like I have been with the Dinobots and Insecticons.
I would've taken a CC Astrotain over Magnus in a heartbeat... I would have legitimately been excited had that happened. I still don't have an Astrotrain in my collection.
But for me, this Magnus looks incredibly good in both modes. Assuming his next figure isn't CC, I believe this is the definitive version.
And even though the cost is steep, it's to be expected at this point.
If Siege Astrotrain was $50+, clearly could've used some improvement, and people seemed to be okay with that 3 years ago, it seems this large, vastly improved Magnus isn't a huge rip-off at $85.
Unlike Rodimus Prime, and more on par with Motormaster, my gut tells me I'll end up feeling this figure is legitimately worthy of CC.
