I never got TR Perceptor, but from what I can tell it does all the same things and has an extra gimmick. Will SS86 Perceptor be worth tracking down?
Absolutely not, IDW Perceptor is best Perceptor, this one just looks like the exact same engineering with a more boring coat of paint & lamer gun. If anything, the existence of this new one makes me more disappointed that the TR one didn't have the full comic-accurate head with the giant targeting eye.

But hey, I'd take a Selects Magnificus outta this new one.

No, your order should be locked in on whatever the price was when you pre-ordered. If it is showing at $80 now on the product page, that is most likely because Amazon themselves are out of stock and a 3rd party seller is selling at that price. Your order summary will tell you what price you locked in tour pre-order for.

Only pre-ordered Perceptor. IDK if I really want the Sweep and Coronation Starscream may be the only Studio Series figure I skip entirely, 86 or not.

I feel the same way. I also really like the sniper rifle accessory we got with the TR one.

As for Magnificus, that would be nice IF the magnification knobs were removeable. Because the whole point of Magnificus (i.e. original Microchange toy) is that he could actually become a decent looking tank that rolled. And to do that, you had to remove the knobs.

In truth, the Microchange toy was a quadruple changer.
Robot
Microscope
Mobile Telescope
Tank

Image

The G1 Perceptor toy could do those 4 modes as well.

What people are calling a tank mode here is the mobile telescope mode.

That's not a tank, this is a tank

Image

And if those knobs can't be removed from this SS86 one, then it can't become the actual tank either.

From the renders, it looks like percy uses the wfc accessory pores system; you can see them on his soles, the sides of his lower legs, and his shoulders. If the pattern holds true, then there should be holes on his forearms right where the knobs are, with the knobs being removable. So even money on whether they're removable or not, with how inconsistent hasbro is. Wait ~2 months for the first in hands to leak to be sure.

The knobs are oddly placed on the forearms. I feel like if they weren't removable, they'd be thicker and mounted closer to the arm, but they sit on that little raised bit which may give it space for a peghole. If all three knobs are accessories, that'd mean there's a third peghole on top of the scope.

Not sure about SS, as I've got the original. Although I would prefer a version of Perceptor that was both G1 accurate and wasn't a headmaster, I've already got the TR one. Strangely, the one in most interested in is the Sweep, even though I've got the various and previous versions of Scourge that can double as Sweeps.

I prefer ss86's paintjob, hands, and the accessories are cool though idk how much i'd use them. The more I look at ss86 the more it grows on me. Maybe I'll have to wait to see it in-hand

Because I can also wait and get the upcoming Armada starscream instead, but I'm already getting the ER Seekers so the trio would be a bit off

I'll need to see more photos, but from what I can tell, I'd go with the ER version...
Unless you think the extras are that cool.
No way am I spending $50+ on this guy. I do appreciate the hands. But he's essentially the ER version anyway (again, from what I can see).

I preordered Perceptor, and like the look of him a lot.
I've had 2 Sweeps preordered since that was possible.
Seems like a long ways off, but it's nice knowing there are things to look forward to early next year!

No prob! I am being more and more cost-aware these days... Although, looking back, I pretty much always have been. But now that prices are going up, even more so...
Point being that the $20 you save is most likely going to go towards another figure, right?
At some point eventually?
I personally would never be able to say that those pack-in's are as good as another figure.
Like having that stuff is as good as having SS86 Perceptor?? Or Legacy Kickback???
For me that's not even close.
It also comes down to this-- just because I have the money to spend, doesn't mean I want to.
Meaning it still doesn't sit well with me that a deluxe is now $25.
I'm doing it and as of now not backing out, but it just seems wrong that to have 3 Sharkticons is costing me $75.

I know everyone's different, living different lives, with different financial goals and limitations.
I guess I'm about to the point where it's getting very difficult to justify so much $$$$ being spent on toys.

Well said! Those $20 would definitely end up on another figure! Like perceptor or shadow panther or pipes

I suppose it's a "glass half empty/full" POV, but I'm not really happy with things like SS.l in this form. The paint job is minimally different, at best and I feel a little outspoken for saying it's "to little, too late" to warrant a second purchase.

For me, the hands and paint job should have been on the original. I just feel like such a release isn't going to sell well and will be a waste of engineering for this mold...

I understand why any improvements weren’t done with the ER mold, but I have to agree;
I find it difficult to believe this will sell well.
I hope I’m wrong…

Also, forgot to mention earlier…
The official images shared earlier today had the banner as only, “Studio Series”,
sans 86… Is the 86 possibly being dropped as a way of saying this subline is going to continue well beyond expected?

Preordering the Perceptor since I don’t have any other version of him. I don’t have Starscream yet either, but not interested in the extras. I had several chances to buy ER SS, but passed him up; wasn’t a fan of some of the gaps he has. Interesting that Scourge was hard to find for some. Around here, he and Hot Rod were plentiful, though only at certain Target stores.

I'm glad I waited for Coronation Starscream. Didn't pick up ER Screamer because I was waiting for this version, and I gotta say I think it paid off. I like the changes they made, plus I'm planning to, at least once, put all the coronation gear on ER Thundercracker so my favorite Seeker can look fabulous, at least once  I like that he's also getting the new hands, and it makes me wonder if maybe from now on, figures that are smaller than usual for the size class might get more articulated hands, because it holds true from ER Prime, SS Hot Rod, Kingdom Rodimus and Primal, and now SS Starscream

If i recall, this Starscream was leaked last year as existing (though price points were up in the air) we've known about him long enough to have had full discussions about what he was going to come with or er retool before the throne information came to light this spring.

I know a lot of people are complaining about the price, but I think the throne was a great addition to justify it. There isn't even a throne in the coronation scene, but it's a very popular unlicensed accessory, so it makes sense as an accessory pack add-on.

That's not really the point for those that are complaining, I think. The point is that the accessories, however good they might be, are coming with a figure many of us have already got (and that said figure isn't really that significantly different enough), thus limiting the appeal.

If these accessories came with a substantially repainted SS (metallic paint, clear plastic, etc), as a different character, a different toy or even by themselves, then I think more people would be happier.

It reminds me of the recent blunders Hasblo has made regarding releasing toys that fans want (clear purple Fossilizer, Fangry, etc) in bundles with toys that many fans didn't. It gives the impression Hasblo is "milking" the fans, and it's not cool.
