What is that in his chest? Terrain? A caterpillar? Dragon tattoo?

The head sculpt is what bothers me most. I'm not splitting hairs, it just doesn't look good. I could probably deal with the rest of his flaws if his head was spot on to the Ironhide head, which is really simple to draw, not sure what this was such a challenge for them to get right.

Can I ask what's not right about the head sculpt to you? It looks fine to me, and I think some of the promotional photography gives it a bit of a "stretched look," but "in hand" pics show it to be a little more proportional. The head and face look like Ironhide to me, and not like anyone else, so I'm not sure that's "wrong" with it to some.

It's Ironhide's face ... it's just not right! The jawline needs to be more squared off, his face is too thin, it slopes down toward his chin, instead of being a more rectangular face. This is another example of where they take the source material too seriously ... I don't think anyone would have complained about him having a silver face, but instead they gave him this oddly painted face similar to what they did with Bumblebee which dulls the details such as the facial lines. The eyes aren't big enough. The nose isn't wide enough. The bottom of the nose is too close to the upper lip. The nose is also too long. The lines along the side of his face should be very defined yet they can hardly be seen, same problem on Bumblebee's face.

If you guys can't see the many things wrong with Ironhide's face, not sure what to tell you guys. The smallest details can make the biggest differences. Masterpiece Prowl and Wheeljack set the bar ... Ironhide is a disappointment after them. It especially sucks with Ironhide because we keep hoping we'll get a great Ironhide/Ratchet toy at some point but continue to be disappointed with release after release.

And my opinion still stands about his face. Nose is too small or too long or something. Jaw line/sides of face should be more rectangular. All you have to do is look at his character model! Ironhide has one of the easiest Transformers faces to draw. I'm bummed they got this wrong!

Those hip panels are still killing it. They could do so much good covering up the gaps in his back/midsection, but instead they just hinder his legs. Ugh.

Nose is too long, overall head too thin, too much of a chin, eyes aren't nearly big enough, could keep going but yes, indeed the headsculpt is just not good.

To be fair, they kinda messed up cw ironhide too, I don't mind it, but it feels like they squished his face into and over-sized helmet...

I think that's a pretty long stretch to defend it with that example. I get playing devil's advocate, and it's cool if that's not even the case and you're ok with the MP's head, such is your right to that opinion. However, in the context of the bigger picture I'm way more ok with compromises on inexpensive mass retail figures as opposed to bad design on a line that's intended to give definitive versions of G1 characters.

I don't collect masterpieces, and even if I did, I don't think I would get this one, everything just feels wrong when looking at it, I think a simpler/cleverer design probably would've yielded a better result

Ahhh man, I don't have any MPs yet and I don't know which one to get first. I think this Ironhide may not be the best MP, but it looks pretty damn good. I wanna get a few of the car bots first though. I still want the Soundwave mold. ARGGGGG I am soooo behind!

I love that this picture is proof that no one can get poor Ironhide right. His head is painted wrong in that cell.

It's when they were scanning to see what was in the volcano on the other side of the Ark's wall. Lo and behold there were dinosaur fossils there! On Ironhide's convenient chest screen are the bones (primarily the skull) of a Triceratops, which they would use later that episode as the basis for Slug Snarl Slag.

I usually dont like fake chests but I feel like an MP Ironhide would have been the best candidate for one. I mean MP 10 has a fake grill to simulate the change between how it looks in alt mode and robot mode so I see nothing wrong with doing something similar for Ironhide's chest. To me the masterpiece line is about looking the most like the animation model no mater what it takes, not to force complete vehicle integration... right?

His robot mode looks like a parody on Ironhide. He really looks like a guy in cosplay. The first picture looks as if he says 'Can I get out of this costume already?!' His head being the worst. Most mistakes of his head have been mentioned. His helmet should go straight down. They made it wrap in a sphere shape.

On the positive side, they took effort to make the bumper to have the 'T'-shape in robot mode like the cartoon. His lower body is alright to me, although his diaper should be smaller.

I'm definitely skipping this one.

All the 'bonus' accessories in the world cannot sugar-coat this turd of a Masterpiece.

If they spent more time thinking about the action figure itself rather than gimmicky crap - we'd have a better toy. I don't really want masses of accessories - there are 3rd party companies that can provide that - what I want is a tidy figure.

This was how I felt about Ultra Magnus

I'll be honest, he isn't wowing me. I'll let him off slightly for being a tricky thing to pull off...but I'm not convinced. The again, Bumblebee didn't strike me from pics, but having him in hand he is awesome!

Ahhh man, I don't have any MPs yet and I don't know which one to get first. I think this Ironhide may not be the best MP, but it looks pretty damn good. I wanna get a few of the car bots first though. I still want the Soundwave mold. ARGGGGG I am soooo behind!

MP-10 Optimus is a glorious centerpiece for the MP line... and Prowl is a personal favorite of mine.

Starscream and Soundwave are probably be the two I want the most that I don't have yet....

I never thought I'd say this, but he's making 2008 Universe Ironhide look good, and that thing didn't even fit together properly. I will be skipping this, spending a fraction of that money on CW Ironhide, and having a grand time.

It's the face sculpt that puts me off. It looks so plain. Granted, it's supposed to match the cartoon, but I thought the face in the cartoon looked better.

I have to say that I really love the look of Ironhide here. Can't wait til January. MP's are just the most rewarding of purchases for me.
