So, the Nemesis didn't do it, but then what did?
Here's my theory.
The Cybertronians are able to travel within a solar system with relative ease, and land on a planet by crash-down. However, for the huge spaces between solar systems, they can't provide sufficient energy themselves to traverse the emptiness without dying off. As such, they need stasis ships for those journeys- ships with the ability to exceed the known speed of light by huge amounts. To safely survive the jumps, the Cybertronians are put into Stasis- like the new bot in the announcement trailer- for the journey and automatically awakened by onboard computer and proximity sensors. In this case, i don't think that Cybertronians- unless they have a flying alt mode- are able to leave a planet's surface on their own. Or- as may be the case- the Autobots ONLY cannot leave an atmosphere of their own power- an homage to the original line that can't fly.
Just my guess.
