Why were Spike and his family in Detroit, and they didn't go talk to the Autobots if this continues from G1

And why does Ratchet act SOOOOO much like Kup???!!!

How many times must this be said? This is a separate continuity! The G1 footage, references, and cameos are just nods to the fans.

If I'm wrong, then explain to me how the Witwickys can live 100 years without aging? This takes place in the 22nd Century, G1 season 3 takes place in 2006/2010, in the 21st Century!

I got all that now, thanks :wink:
I thought this was connected to G1 because dlobro1080 said
I got the feeling that Ratchet was the original G1 Ratchet (Prime even says to him, "You saw some action in the Great War," or something similar to that) and Megs and Starscream are originals as well.

But, I suppose a lot of the G1 stuff was in it to add pizazz :???:

I was really impressed with this show, I cannot wait to see more! Starscream was just entirely bad ass, and I'm honestly ok with the art style... it's different than what we're used to, but good writing makes all the difference.

I loved the humor, seeing the expression on Primes face when he heard were babies come from was funny

Eh, I thought it was average.

The best thing was Megatron and he gets blown up in the first 20 minutes.

The Transformer designs really dont fit in with the rest of the surrounding animation. Even with the anime influence of that Teen Titans style if you look at the vehicles and the look of that show it was considerably less cartoony than what these Transformers look like.

With the exception of Megatron and Prowl and they could have been designed much much better and still not look like fan art.

Some of the voices just didnt work. Starscream is too high pitched and whiny. Tom Kenny needs more raspiness and less Spongebob.

Blitzwing is just dumb in voice and overall.

Bulkhead is Patrick from Spongebob in Robot form

The mother of all screwups is Prime.

He has the worst design of all and the way he is portayed he is the worst Optimus Prime incarnation in the history of the franchise. Being young and inexperienced is one thing because at some point every Prime was that but this Prime has less gumption than Lion-O did.

Hopefully, the creators will get over their arrogance of "making something not for the old fans" and see the flaws in their show and make changes going into the second season.

First post here --

The one thing I'd like to add is that I do think there has to be *some* connection to G1. After all, they show an old episode and acknowledge it as "history"! The very definition of continuity, IMO.

First welcome.

Second the use of the old footage only implys that this universe has a past very simular to the G1 past if you noticed they made sure not to use any footage with G1 Optimus Prime nor did they use any footage that showed earth.

dlobro1080 wrote:Maybe they'll explain just how much of a connection there is in the future, but I got the feeling that Ratchet was the original G1 Ratchet (Prime even says to him, "You saw some action in the Great War," or something similar to that) and Megs and Starscream are originals as well.

G1 Ratchet died back in the 86 movie but I guess he could have been brought back to life but the term "Great War" does not have to be a reffrance to the G1 war.

The G1 great war was heavly fought on earth with humans involved.If this is the same universe Optimus Prime [animated] should have knowen what a human was.

The great war implies the war on cybertron that was going on for millenia before they even came to earth. The whole timeline is the great war.

I see it as what g1 would have been if made today. Restarting everything and building on that.

Oh, about the footage, some footage was from MTMTE part 1.

Anyway people, there is no connection to G1 and BW whatsoever. It's never been implied that it was and it would not make sense continuity wise. All the original G1 stuff was put in there as a nod to the older fans.

This is... actually great! I had my doubts before, but those were put to rest! However, one thing that has bugged me since the show was announced was the art style, it was just something I, & many others weren't used too.

Now, I like the references here, Ratchet is a continuation of his G1 form, in the beginning, the G1 clips, & Megatron's helmut reference, these were very well thought of! Also, Starscream's still the treacherous backstabber he was in G1.

The human characters... I have mixed opinions about them, Sari seems... okay, I can bear with her, Mr. Sumdac I can tolerate, other humans are a little bit intolerable, if you ask me.

Overall, the show's great, like I said, I had my doubts, but they have been put to rest.

Now, this is just making me wonder about the toyline... :-?

I saw some people saying that this fits in around/after BW/BM. I don't know if they think it is part of the G1 continuity, but it is not.

Even though they used G1 animation, this is not the same universe. When the autobots crash landed on earth (around present time) they had never heard of it. In G1, the Autobots were on earth from 1984-20XX (until the continuity ends).

Maybe everyone already knows this and I am reading the posts wrong. In that case I am sorry.

I've mostly said my peace on the show, but I want to add my $0.02 about the continuity argument:

At the base of the TF lore nowadays is the catch-all "It's all good" angle in the form of a multiverse...where key events tend to happen, & Primus(or Cybertron, if you will) & Unicron about the only 2 constants, but only because they are considered TF deities.

This, though it may have some similarities storywise & maybe some history that is rather parallel with G1, such as the "history footage".....it is still just that: parallel. In this universe, for example, Prime was not Orion Pax: blue-collar Autobot shot to hell by Megs & reformatted into the ultimate war machine. Instead, he's a Autobot army reject, sent back to the blue-collar work, thrown onto an unknown planet & dubbed a hero simply because he killed a bug that obviously appeared to him to be nothing more than an average 3rd solar cycle of 7(tuesday).

No offense to anyone, but I can't believe how so many people here are so gullible! This series is NOT part of G1! The G1 footage, references, and cameos are just nods to the fans!!! :MAD: :-x :BOOM: :BANG_HEAD: :!:

This is how all the series go:

* G1 seasons 1 & 2 - first series
* Scramble City - side story
* G1 Movie - series movie
* G1 season 3 -movie continuation
* The Headmasters - series sequel
* Super-god Masterforce - second series sequel
* Victory - third series sequel
* Zone - Final series sequel and first manga continuation
* Battlestars: Return of Convoy - manga sequel
* Operation: Combination - second manga sequel
* G2 - third manga sequel and first toyline reboot
* Beast Wars season 1- first questionable reboot
* Beast Wars II - BW sequel/side story
* Beast Wars Special - side story/movie
* Beast Wars Neo - second BW sequel/side story
* Beast Wars seasons 2 & 3 - BW continuation that confimed BW in-continuity
* Beast Machines - true BW sequel

* Robots in Disguise - first FULL reboot, G1 references are nods to fans, Takara later attempts to retcon it into G1 universe which causes MAJOR confusion

* Armada - second full reboot
* Energon - Armada sequel
* Cybertron - questionable second Armada sequel, originally meant to be another FULL reboot, Hasbro attempts to retcon it into A/E universe which causes varying results

* Classics - second toyline reboot, no connections to any of the animated series, one comic - sequel to Marvel comics only

* 2007 Movie - first Stand-alone feature film/third or fourth full reboot
* Movie sequel - still being made, yet to air

* Animated - newest FULL reboot, like RiD it contains G1 references that are just nods to the fans.

There's also some others:

* Robotmasters - side story set between G1 season 2 & Scramble City, and the G1 movie
* Binaltech/Alternators - side story set prior to the G1 movie, but branches off into it's own timeline
* Kiss Players - several side stories set between G1 seasons 2 and 3

And these questionable ones:

* Critcal Mass and Point Omega stories - side stories set within Beast Wars seasons 2 and 3
* Primeval Dawn - side story set after BW season 3
* The Wreckers - side story set during Beast Machines
* Universe - story set after Beast Machines
* Beast Wars Reborn - mini-story set after Beast Machines

That is how each series goes. (:| (:| (:|

I loved it. I definitely think it's the best show since Beast Wars.

That being said, the close mindedness of some of you guys makes me laugh. First off...to anyone who thinks that Starscream sounded ANYTHING like Spongebob, at MOST he sounded 1% like Spongebob. What you should do is just admit that from the minute you heard that Tom Kenny was Spongebob, you had already decided "Oh noes Starscream will sound like Spongebob suxxors!!!111!!!11!!1" and that even hearing a DISTINCTLY different voice wouldn't change your mind. As for Bulkhead...he did sound like Patrick, but really wasn't too similar. Granted Bulkhead was kinda dumb, but nowhere near that level.

* Battlestars: Return of Convoy - manga sequel
* Operation: Combination - second manga sequel
This can be debatable. Where as the japanese series did follow this formula & is considered legit in its proper place, the Western G1 ended with the short-lived season 4, & this is why Hasbro's official stance is a multiverse....because some people, myself included, didn't like seeing the great stories of G1 reduced to every other kiddy anime robo-mech show. I mean look at Masterforce...the headmaster Jrs & powermasters weren't even sentient robots...just transforming mechs with human pilots. & What exactly was the decepticons' intnetions in Masterforce anyway? Just to blow sh*t up & kill everybody for no good reason? IMHO the 3 episodes of season 4 were far superior.

....um....what were we talking about again? :oops:

I just watched it via youtube and i really enjoyed it. It is well acted, well directed and well animated. The style still bugs me but i can get round it as the story and acting and action make up for it.

All in all they did a great job, and i loved the G1 references. Lets hope they keep up this level of quality. I still dont want the toys though.

Bulkhead=All the problems Grandus had but without any of the redeeming factors.

I concur with anyone that thought Starscream sounded like Spongebob. It wasn't constant, but it was there if you listened closely. Of course, at other times he sounded absolutely nothing like Spongebob, so don't tell me my mind was already made up that I was going to think he sounded like Spongebob.

Not too sure about Prime. I prefer my Primes to be a bit more Primey than what I'm seeing here. IMO, don't mix Primal with Prime. Primal was a great character and I don't think he should be re-done. I really don't like when characters are remade as someone else like this. Of course, I am against remakes in general so I might be biased on this one.

I thought Hasbro said there wouldn't be anime-sequence transformations. So what exactly am I looking at here? At least they don't do it every single time. That helps a bit.

I found the whole giant bug thing to be really stupid. I'm also not sure about how easily the humans learned to trust the Autobots. If several giant robots from outer space came to Earth I'd need a LOT of convincing that they aren't dangerous. It's not just about intentions being peaceful. It's also a matter of cultural differences. You knever know what might offend an alien or what they might identify as a threat.

I'm still not sure about the humans. Sari could be worse but I already see her playing a big role in future stories. Only time will tell.

I'm not about to call this the second coming but I'm also not going to abandon hope. Changes can always be made. Voices can change, designs can change, human involvement can be downplayed, designs can change etc. It has potential. It's not going in my favorites list yet but it has potential.

Your post was funny. Why get so agitated? At this point, it's just excited speculation on our part that maybe, just maybe, there's a connection to G1. No one is saying, "It is in continuity and that is the end of discussion." The fact is, there was actual G1 footage used, and references made to the past -- there was never anything like that in the Unicron Trilogy -- and if they wanted to completely separate this new show from the past, why would they include those references at all? Sure, it might be -- and probably is -- just playful nods to the fans, but maybe it's not. To call people "gullible" for thinking it might be, is ridiculous.

When I said "gullible" I meant that they easily believed that this series was connected to G1. I never once did. I considered it at first, but dropped the thought once I really thought about it.

As I've stated before, if this series is tied to G1, then explain how the Witwickys have been alive and ageless for 100 years! G1 season 3 took place in 2006/2010 in the 21st Century, this series is set in the 22nd Century. That cannot be explained.
