Of course I never actually watched Cybertron. Maybe I have no place calling Primus boring? Was he really exciting there? I bought the original toy at retail and felt good about it. But a Unicron-comparible price for him seems excessive.

I think some of the greater appeal might be the fact that it's a Transformer that turns into Cybertron. Much like how the Autobot Ark was appealing despite not appearing in that mode in any cartoons, the appeal is that its a big Transformer who turns into the famous Autobot ship.

Well, if he's comparable to Unicron in SIZE then the price would be justified. And frankly, he was pretty cool. At one point he used Cybertron's moons as nunchuks against a giant Starscream.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

That is pretty cool.

Size doesn't quite equate price. Unicron was $574.99 ... and that was a few years ago. Some characters are worth that. Others aren't. Unicron has done a LOT in the franchise. And Primus hasn't. I paid retail price for the Ark (and Nemesis), but $574.99 would be a bit much for either.

Yeah the Planet Cybertron itself would be pretty exciting, especially if it had some features that paid homage to its appearance in S1/2 of the Sunbow animated series.

However when I think of Primus, its more of a composite of multiple continuities. While a Cybertron/Primus toy might appeal to UT fans, that would be far from the main purpose for producing it.

In all seriousness, I'm hoping it's something that'll be nowhere near as big and expensive as Unicron was. That was a lot of money, and I can't imagine anyone being happy to drop that much from their bank accounts a second time. Or even a first time if Unicron was deemed too expensive.

I mean, sure, having a big Planet Cybertron that could turn into Primus, a playset, or both, would be cool, but it'd also be about 700 dollars, which would be torture on the wallet.

I also kinda feel like using Omega Prime for the 40th anniversary would be a little redundant since the original was, in a way, already an anniversary figure, as Car Robots was originally the celebration of the brand's 15th anniversary in Japan, from 1985-2000.

So it would feel like if, for a later anniversary, we got a new G1 Optimus toy that was based directly on the design and aesthetics of MP-1 (as opposed to specifically drawing from the cartoon model first and foremost), while the original MP-1 itself was the 20th anniversary figure.

There is no way this'll be another expensive G1 Optimus Prime, we already have FIVE coming this year:

Missing Link C-01 Toy colors
Missing Link C-02 Cartoon colors
MP-44S Toy colors
Walmart Retro Reissue
SS86 Commander Class

Along with some cheaper options. Can't imagine they'd announce yet another one before those get released out of fear of them not selling.

Yup that's Primus. What's this pic from?

Evan Brook’s Instagram.

A Primus with an accurate G1 planet mode as seen in the original 3-parter, More Than Meets the Eye would make sense for a 40th anniversary project.

TJOmega brings up a interesting possibility though, in his video today.. With Evan’s recent post clarifying there is no hard rule against Haslab being some type of Prime and the Haslab Instagram account promoting the upcoming stream as “firing up their engines” and the “Omega sized 40th anniversary” teaser in the pulsecon stream in September of last year, it may possibly be a 2-pack pf R.I.D Prime and Ultra Magnus that combine into Omega Prime.

But, honestly I think Primus makes more sense, even if I would totally kill for an updated Omega Prime.

If they are hinting at the next haslab as being from the energon line how can it be Primus primus was from the cybertron line
I don't think it's that last thing we need is another out of reach 700 dollar figure for a lot of people the two victory figures weren't too high in price for most people

Yup, I'de bet money on primus. But if that's the case, I'm out. Accounting for inflation, if he is the same size as Unicron, he would likely be well over $700 this time before taxes/shipping etc. Even if they re-used tooling from Unicron to save on costing, there's no way he wouldn't cost substantially more then Unicron. Add that to the sad truth that I just simply don't have room for a second mammoth sized piece like that.

That being said, I can't really see the other guesses being tossed out as "celebrating 40 years of transformers" as much as I would like them to be true. I would absolutely love an updated, less paint flakey super fire convoy and god Magnus, but I don't see those as likey. But then again, car robots was itself a celebration of og transformers, so who knows.

He was still in Energon. It was his first ever cartoon appearance:

Sidenote: It is really irksome that this seems to be the only screencap of Primus from the Energon cartoon on the entire internet.

He spoke. He had lines. He was a character who conversed with other characters, and had a role to play. All throughout the series.

That's like claiming Nightbird's first cartoon appearance was in the Cyberverse cartoon, all because she wasn't a Transformer in the G1 cartoon.

Primus was never a Transformer in his original Marvel Comics appearances either. He was an energy being who became the core of Cybertron. And that Cybertron could never transform either because it was explicitly a non-transforming planet.

The night bird reference is flawed she had a robot form in g1
And the then there was a couple toys the rise of the beasts
Primus didn't appear in physical form in energon
If you really want to get technical primus first actual appearance was in the g1 comic
So which version is the primus going to be it surely can't be the nonphysical energy form in energon theres nothing to go on but a cloud

Then I guess that means the Vok have never appeared in anything at all, since, by their nature as spectral beings, they have no physical forms either. And according to you, something had to be physical in order appear in a story. Therefore, the Vok have never appeared in anything. Beast Wars is a lie. :P

Image

Oh, and Tornedron never appeared in anything either, because he is a being made entirely of energy and, per Primacron's statements, is a creature composed of no matter at all. So his noncorporeal existence means he's never appeared in anything either. "Call of the Primitives" is a lie, too. ;)

Image

And then there's Unicron, who must have never appeared in Beast Wars Neo as a being comprised purely of polymorphic energy and thus wasn't actually ever a physical being in that show, and so never appeared in it. Beast Wars Neo is now also a lie. :-B

Image

And who could forget Kremzeek? Well, he doesn't exist either since he too is an energy being and not a physical being, so he's never appeared in anything either. His episode is a lie as well. >:oP

I think we are arguing semantics on the internet. Never would have seen that coming... :HEADHURTS:

The above energy beings were not CYBERTRONIAN and did not convert. Nightbird was a robot in G1's cartoon but was not a Transformer as she didn't have an alt mode. SHe was a CHARACTER in TRANSFORMERS, but not Cybertronian.

Seriously though...I really am concerned we are just going to get another Optimus. Let's face it...as much as we may not agree, the PERCEPTION is that Optimus Prime IS Transformers and represents the brand in a way that is far deeper than any of the other characters we've mentioned. It would seem LOGICAL (not that it's likely or that we want it, just LOGICAL) that the 40th anniversary HasLab would be Optimus Prime. If that ends up being the case, imagine an Optimus figure that could be assembled and disassembled , allowing for it to become the vast majority of Prime's incarnations. That could be cool, small enough to mass produce, and would excite a broad spectrum of collectors.

I feel like a lot of assumptions are being made regarding the word "energon" in the post, too. I think it is a general reference, not a hint as energon is huge in pretty much every TF series (maybe none bigger than season 1 of Beast Wars). It doesn't make sense to do a figure from TF: Energon...a series that is generally regarded by most fans as either the worst of second-worst (to Beast Machines though I enjoyed the series and so did my wife, who is always right) series.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

This is why I think Omega Prime could be pretty likely. It hits that Optimus Prime brand recognition while also being a version of the character that we haven't seen a new figure of in over twenty years (although there have been a few redecos and repackaging over the years.)

The only other major Optimus Prime that we haven't seen in a long while is Energon Prime. We've gotten plenty of G1 and Bayverse, plus Armada, Cybertron, Animated, and even an Optimal Optimus in 2018. I would think that anything after that would be too recent for a big reveal.

I still really want that G1 Unicron, along with the BW Neo version.

You know the peeps at HasTak are reading all these comments and laughing. "Look at this! We throw random words in and they go ape-sh!t with speculation! This is better than reality TV!"
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

If Energon is the second-worst to anything, it ain't Beast Machines, but rather Machinima's Prime Wars Trilogy.

^BW Neo Unicron at some point in the generations line would be awesome!

Sabrblade wrote:In all seriousness, I'm hoping it's something that'll be nowhere near as big and expensive as Unicron was.

I agree and am torn. Because as much as I want it to Be Primus, I couldn't support it. Just like Unicron, Id take a pass. BUT... I really want it to be Primus so Unicron has a proper rival...If that makes sense.

Also speaking of the economy (overall), at least in the U.S.... things aren't as good as they were back in 2019 when Unicron came to Haslab...and it was only by an extension that it got funded. I could totaly seeing it not fund, as it is risky, but I'd still like to see the attempt be made. There have been other $700 plus crowdfunds recently that were successful. The Mattel MOTU Origins Eternia Playset (although that was basically a Holy Grail for most MOTU fans to be able to recapture something they missed from their youth).

Also the Ultimates scaled Thundercats Cats Lair from Super7, which is basically as BIG as a recliner chair, just as heavy & expensive. I'm not sure what motivated fans to get on board with that...but it happened. At the same time the S7 GI Joe Cobra Mothership literally crashed harder than it did in the animated intro it appears in, and that was only $500. Yet, we've seen Hasbro successfully fund GI Joe items. perhaps it was just a case of too much all at once?

Again though, I think it s a smart play by Hasbro (at least int he U.S.) to run this during tax Season, when many people will be getting their returns. Perhaps they can justify $700 for a Primus toy as a companion piece for Unicron. Perhaps not. I guess we'll find out in a little under a week.
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Wish List of Modern Combiners: Road Caesar, Monstructor & Dinoking (proper size to fiction), Landcross, Guard City, Battle Gaia, & G2 Defensor. Wish List of Titans:Metrotitan,Majin Zarak
