Well damn if that’s not a fingerlickin’ good lookin’ Hot Rod.

Wonder what the rest of the parts are going to be to qualify for a Voyager price point. There’s clearly not enough plastic there for that.

Have PotP Rod coming soon, so that will have to hold me over until this masterpiece is released,

Now, onto the comments

Ultra Markus wrote:thats the most incredible non MP hotrod so far
now for kup and blur how well they will look

I preffer it to MP Hot Rod, especially with how solid the build is with the shoulders and how the back of the car goes into the legs. It makes for a cleaner backpack. Plus we don,t get a sense that we see his innards as much here and his silhouette is not distorted by useless kibble. I will be looking at my MP in a whole different light now.

o.supreme wrote:Looks Cool, but not in my range of collecting. I am glad for those who are excited. I will make one observation however... I'm not sure where the idea started that SS 86 toys were intended for kingdom, but just wouldn't fit in that line up, but I think we can put that to rest. Like or hate them, it seems these toys were always intended for SS.

I feel the exact opposite. The amount of extra detailing make this much more like a WFC figure and we saw Cheetor and Balckarachnia, they don't have 5mm ports all over. This feels a lot more like a kingdom figure to me. Not saying you are wrong, but the fact that both you and I can use this video to confirm our theories means that it isn't straight cut one way or the other.

TulioDude wrote:I'm just waiting for the Last Knight Hot Rod.

I don't have to wait, I have 2 of them. One from TLK toyline and the WWII version from Studio Series. Plus, the fact that my Lockdown is the SSLockdown means that the TLK Hotrod has a transformation and design that is fully unique to my collection.

o.supreme wrote:I actually look at ER Prime and SS 86 Hotrod and see no similarities, they look like they belong in completely different lines because they are.

They are different designs from different eras and if Hot Rod was released in the Kingdom line then they still would be from 2 different lines. Once again, the same evidence you present can be interpreted against the idea that this was always for SS. Nothing is definitive.

Emerje wrote:Really thought I would see more complaints about how terrible the back of Hot Rod's car mode looks.

It bugged me as soon as I saw it, but then again it is a 30$ figure, there had to be some sacrifices, so I can't stay mad at that for too long.

Seibertron wrote:I think Studio Series Hot Rod might be the first figure that I've ever thought ... "wow, this $20 Transformers toy looks way better than the $100+ Masterpiece figure."

It will be a $30 figure, but yeah, I too preffer it to the MP. And I am pretty sure the car mode closes up better.

Yeah. Great job, because that's how I felt.

All these guys crying and kvetching about hoods. GOH.

Everything else is perfect, for a deluxe. I hope they're not making voyagers that are smaller than other voyagers just for the sake of scale.

I'm positive he didn't connect the front right, you can see how it's supposed to come together. He was either being extra careful, it's broken, or it came off the QC reject pile and just wont stay together.

The price is unfortunate, but it's not the first time a Deluxe SS figure cost more for coming with more. SS Drift with the Baby Dinobots cost $26.99 and I would say Hot Rod is a much more impressive figure, though I don't think his accessory count is all that great and probably has little to do with his price.

Emerje

So basically I should consider this and the other '86 figures the SS version of Deluxe Marvel Legends; same size figures but with something extra that pushes the price point.

Man, Scourge looks AWESOME! The sculpting looks fantastic and he's got a killer silhouette. But Scourge is a character that I've never really cared about, so I've got no reason to buy this besides it looking really cool, which I'm not sure is reason enough.

Interesting that nobody has mentioned the 5mm ports on his arms yet.

What you see is what you get, that's all the parts you are getting for this voyager price point. Honestly, doesn't feel that much different to Doubldealer's leader class price point in terms of what you are getting for the price.

SSHHHHHHHHHH!!! That's because those 5mm ports go against O.Supreme's theory that these could never be released in the generations line going on at the same time.

All jokes aside, these beautiful robot modes really make the RED line look beyond dumb. Here, I get wonderfully articulate figures that are show accurate AND transform.

No seriously what even is Scourge as a character?

I'd recommend watching his standout episode "The burden hardest to bear" (personal favorite of mine) from season 3. Rodimus Prime in one his many low days, lost the Matrix and is actually happy for it. Scourge got his mittens on it and decides to use it against Galvatron. Bad idea, espacially the former
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

- Jelze Bunnycat =:3

Looking for:
- TR Furos (Hardhead's head) and Crashbash (lost him :()
- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)
- CW Brake-Neck/UW Wildrider, CW Offroad
- TR Twinferno & Grotusque
- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1 (plus repro Victorion hands and feet?)

Like most recent Hasbro Transformers, Hotrod looks awesome from straight on front. While looking cheap, messy and incongruous from pretty much every other angle. Great for roll-call shelves. Worthless for anything else.

Really? Cause he's no bigger than deluxe Wheeljack. While Doubledealer is a bit short, he makes that up with mass. There's a lot going on with Doubledealer and a lot of plastic there for all 3 modes.

Plastic wise even adding in the guns, saw, matrix and effects parts, I think Roddy here is a bit light on the plastic count there for $30.

Maybe $25. Even the Studio Series stands don't make up $5 unless these guys are coming with some plastic displays or something.

I remember the episode but not really Scourge besides his "deformity" and attempted coup.

But really this just makes him discount Starscream.

Really? I think he looks pretty great from ALL angles, honestly. Obviously, straight on frontal is the best, but the sides look fine thanks to a compact backpack for much of the car kibble AND added plastic panels to hide any transformation recesses in the mold. From the back is never the best for any Transformers figure, and I don't know why anyone would complain too bitterly if that's the only issue. I don't care that the backs of the legs are hiding the back wheels and fenders. Everything else looks pretty much on-model to me.

Studio Series Hot Rod is right in that zone of being a very tall Deluxe, or a rather short Voyager. What pushes him over the $20 price point into $30 is all down to plastic mass, parts count, and paint applications. Bigger Deluxes of late, like Siege Ironhide or Impactor, can afford to be so big because they have lower parts counts, simpler transformations, and make do with large open gaps to stretch the plastic budget into the biggest volume possible. On the other hand, this Hot Rod, while being about the same height, has a much more complicated transformation, with small parts to tuck away, a flip out visor for the head, added panels to hide any unsightly gaps, and a gorgeous paint job that matches the red plastic to the red paint on the transparent blue plastic parts extremely well. Something like that takes multiple coats of paint to prevent bleed through from the plastic underneath. He also comes with some nice extras, like a Matrix of Leadership complete with a special effects part to make it look like it is emitting blue light, two guns based on his original G1 toy that also come with special effects parts to represent laser blasts, plus a big hand-mounted buzzsaw directly from The Transformers: The Movie. This Hot Rod is truly a premium figure. You can tell where the money goes for this guy, and it's appreciated.

If we can get a LEADER CLASS RODIMUS PRIME I would be really happy. I know PotP exist but I want a proper "mini MP" Rodimus Prime.

Yeah, I still don't see enough plastic there for Voyager price but we'll see. He has to be really dense with panels and features to warrant that price.

He was supposed to be this master tracker and a real bad ass but season three kinda reduced his role to just the leader of the Sweeps, which he was really bad at unfortunately.

Try to think of these Studio Series figures as Deluxe, Deluxe SS figures. Like the Marve Legends War Machine or SW Black Series General Grevious.

In Grevious' defense that's a real nice high quality cape right there to account for the price. :-D

But I get what you mean. Not so much SS deluxe, more like SS Black Series Deluxe. Guess Hasbro needs a new moniker for these. "Darkest Hour" Deluxe or something.

Yeah, I still don't see enough plastic there for Voyager price but we'll see. He has to be really dense with panels and features to warrant that price.

You know you're gonna buy it. It's almost equivalent to me not buying an Ultra Magnus.

Well not to be late to the party, but over the last two weeks I picked up Leadfoot AND Overload! Leady is such a wonderful little Deluxe. His articulation is shockingly good and the transformation is intuitive and fun. Plus everything tabs together snugly. All he needs now is a dash of paint here and there to bring out the details

Overload has a killer presence in robot mode, but his vehicle mode is missing a tiny bit of polish, what with the center gaps he can peak through and the weirdly asymmetrical rear end of the hauler bed. But the real star attraction was obviously Devastator in his complete combined mode, and it instantly just blew me away with the shear size and weight. Given the retail price point and functional playability each figure needed to meet, its a wonder that it hooks and clips together in such a rock solid manner. Big RiP to the grinder collar bit the Oload came with essentially just sitting on Mixmasters bits, only bummer I can think of.

Also he looks really good with the paratrooper from DoTM Shockwave laying helpless at his feet or in his claws

How about a commander class? ;)

Commander class would be a whole playset with Optimus Prime's deathbed and everything.

This could be cool actually.
See Kingdom for Rodimus Prime.

I got a feeling that a new and possibly better Galvatron is inevitable in the wake of this Studio line. Yeah it would be great but that means I gotta part ways with another figure in my Neo-G1 line. :BANG_HEAD: And my LG Galvatron has a far better head added on then that of the sad original...damnation! :BOOM: :VEHI:

IIRC Galvatron is amongst the leaked listed of Leaders in Kingdom alongside Beast Wars Megatron and an Earth mode Ultra Magnus.
They call me “Tanker Chungus”!
