Dungeons & Dragons

Nothing better than the original intro to introduce this thread. Now, as for this newest toyline. There is a lot of buzz already. When the first (largely sold out) figure in a line is the villain, it speaks volumes to his popularity.

Image

Venger. Peter Cullen's finest role (just as Dan Castellaneta's was Earthworm Jim, in the titular 90's cartoon).

Image

The rest of Wave 1 consisting of Team Leader Hank, Bobby and Diana.

There is some discourse as to whether the other members of the team will all feature in Wave 2. Also the feasibility of an in-Scale Tiamat. Let alone whatever other potential villains will feature.

On a personal note, as a kid this was all there was of Dungeons & Dragons to me. I didn't know about the rest. To be honest, as an adult, I've found that the show is all I'm actually interested in.

Sound off on your favourite level 1 RPG protagonists being set against The Goddess of all Dragons as soon as you boot up the game

Definitely getting these. Venger's face feels off somehow, can't quite put my finger on it, I think it's the mouth. Really hope we get wave 2!

He looks.. pensive, I guess? I imagine there will be an alternately faced Venger, sold with Night-Mare.

As for the largest scale cast member...

*Not the cartoon design. But it is awesome

I really hope Tiamat isn't a HasLab-Greed thing.

Speaking of Tiamat..

Finally inboxes them, though they don't have a space of their own so they took a right turn at eternia and a left turn at primus.

Wow that sucks they removed the thigh swivel joint on her, I'd have been clueless otherwise.

Meanwhile the Power rangers body swap two pack (female red, male yellow) shows pinned joints on the box but figures are actually pinless like the upcoming remastered lightning collection figures.

Not keen on the blind box style either despite having bought the VHS Marvel stuff.

Unfortunately my OCD kicks in sometimes with issues like this, I think the fact that it was blind box made me more aware.

Preorders up everywhere for wave 2 and even a horsey for Venger...but only for minimates.

Wouldnt mind hasbro using the D&D bodies to make some marvel legends characters actually be in scale at some point especially Power Pack (or if they can do Legends figures for Marvel 1602 which would supplement the non cartoon D&D lines).

hopefully another two pack or something for the main cartoon figures would be nice, especially a shadow demon. I'll definitely be after the MOTU skeleton guys to go with the D&D figures when they get released.

Yes indeed, Wave 2!

I must admit, I think Sheila has the best sculpt face so far. Although Eric does have the right amount of smug to his expression (not a fan of the effect around his shield though). To me, the weak link appears to be Presto. Even the stock images don't really sell him as being a good figure.

Just to add, with the release of wave two in May. Aside from Tiamat and Night-Mare, the principle cast of D&D is complete.

It is rare (very rare) for a cartoon roster to be completed so quickly. It remains to be seen where Hasbro will go with this from here. Since I'm told (although I am far from any kind of authority) that the cartoon didn't feature much faithful representation. When it comes to actual D&D lore/creatures, onscreen.

If they want to do main cast in civilian clothes or some kind of gimmicky roller coaster toy, I'm there for that (tho they still haven't done mighty morphine rangers in street gear yet :()

Anyway, saw these on BBTS, thought about ordering, but I want to see if any sales pop up, maybe on Target.

I could see wave 3 move into other D&D characters. Warduke was on the show so that would be an easy one, may as well do other characters from the LJN line like Strongheart, Kelek, and Zarak.

On one hand that's a really neat custom of Cyclonus as Venger, but on the other hand it sort of looks like Cyclonus in drag.

In addition to scripts or storyboards for 20 out of 27 produced episodes, the D&D page at the Sunbow Marvel Archive as of last night hosts 8 of Rick Merwin's unused premises for season 1 of the show. Giving us a look at what could have been:

Who's the guy in the back? Also kinda surprised Diana was played by a black woman, that wasn't entirely normal in the 80s.

As for the toys...

I haven't noticed any of the figures selling at Walmart at all.

I'd say aside from Hank, the voice actors definitely have a resemblance to all the kids (and Dungeon Master). The expression of Eric's VO is so on point
