Unpublished G1 Marvel comic art found

G1 comic inker Dave Hunt was a guest during East Coast Comic Con at the Meadowlands Expo Center in New Jersey this past weekend. He had on display his personal original art collection including several binders of original art pages from his Marvel and DC work including Spider-Man, Superman, and of course, Transformers. Among the pieces were pages from an unpublished G1 comic adaptation of Dweller in the Depths. As far as I know this art was never published.

It was penciled by Ian Akin and inked by Mr. Hunt. He told me it was from an inventory of backup stories that were to have run as filler issues if the regularly scheduled comic didn't make it to print on time. These inventory pages were part of a complete book but he sold off some of the other pages years ago. He let me take pictures and i put them at my Facebook page:

Fellow Seibertronian crazysteve has unearthed three so-far unseen - but also entirely unknown - pages by artist David Hunt (on pencils by Ian Akin) from the old Marvel comics Transformers series. The pages, mirrored below, are from an issue adapting the cartoon episode Dweller in the Depths. It would appear these were for a back-up comic, in case the regular story could not make it to publication on time - check them out below, with some more info from the finder, and head here for some close-ups!

None. Unproduced = non-canon.

Woulda been Marvel G1 had it come out, though;

You know, I'd always wondered how differently Marvel UK continuity might have gone if some other post-movie ep than Big Broadcast of 2006 had been adapted for US#43, especially one that acknowledged the Quintessons as their creators so soon after Legacy of Unicron...perhaps the whole origin Unicron told Death's Head would've been dismissed as unreliable narrative, much like Wreck Gar's reframing of #43?

But, sweet Primus, this was actually produced as a backup for Marvel UK?!? Maybe decrepit old Aspects of Evil Rodimus Prime would've been the unreliable narrator?

STUDENT: No, tell me a TRULY evil story, like the one about the Eurythmians!

RODIMUS PRIME: There were far crappier adventures while Optimus Prime led the Autobots. Like their encounter with Lord Chumley...wait, we went through a lot of different realities on our way back from the Time Wars. Did Megatron melt down the Rocky Mountains after Cliffjumper beat him in the great car rally, or was it that Straxus clone who got turned into Galvatron 3?

Man oh man, how I'd love for those pages he sold off to show up soon.

And how I wish Impossible Toys had tackled all the Quint designs unique to this episode, my second fav of all time.

And how I wish I could find a whole case-worth of Arcees at a discount store so I could repaint one into her more lavender Marvel colors. And that was supposed to have happened by now! WHERE IS SHE, DAMMIT!?!

Thank you, sto_vo_kor. It's not every day Sabre gets to learn something new.
Me too!

Since "Big Broadcast" likewise acknowledged the Quints as having ruled Cybertron, I could see an adaptation of "The Dweller" in its place also being construed by Marvel UK as a falsehood told by Wreck-Gar or someone. Though, "Space Pirates" would end up losing the Quints' journal from its story, but some other plot device could take its place instead.

Dave Hunt's son is now selling one of the original art pages from the unpublished Dweller in the Depths comic adaptation on ebay. His scans at the auction are better than the pictures I took that day years ago.
