(Well ok, maybe we just can't see it.)
Spacewarp is a preexisting character who was originally planned for release in the old 2003 Universe line as a Toys'R'Us exclusive redeco of the Armada Jetfire toy.

Image

Though the originally-planned figure was never picked up by any store chain, the toy was eventually released in a modified form as Astrotrain, a 2007 Club Store exclusive by the Transformers Collector Club, with a new headsculpt and new redecos of the Giant Planet Mini-Con Team instead of redecos of the Space Mini-Con Team.

Image

Years later, the TCC Facebook fiction of 2014-2016 would bring back the original Spacewarp concept and reinvented it as a female Unicron Trilogy character who went on all kinds of crazy adventures in outer space.

Image

She gained a fan following through her official Facebook fiction titled "Spacewarp's Log", in which she spun tales of her wild adventures to the readers. Her popularity led to the Club finally giving her a chance to have an official toy in the Club's last hurrah of toy releases. Thus, we have this TFSS Spacewarp toy, with Megatron's bio containing references to Spacewarp's Log, ensuring us that she's still that same character despite being paired with a version of G1 Megatron.

And on that note, lemme just say that Spacewarp is friggin' awesome. She's a snarky Decepticon jerk with a heart of gold who turns into a spaceship and traverses not just time and space; but many alternate realities with a team of sidekicks that combine into a reality warping gun. I really wish we'd get an actual full figure of her (because, again, awesome) but her inclusion with Megatron just endears me to that little set even more.
I want more characters like her honestly. She was so cool and her log was so great.

Here's an unpublished bio that was written just for the little Spacewarp figure in this set, but ultimately didn't make it into the final product:
Name: Spacewarp

Function: Adventurer

Motto: “All I ask is a neutrino wind at my back, a nebula to dodge, and the flung spray and blown spume of a supernova, and you'll find me a satisfied wanderer.”

STRENGTH: 2 INTELLIGENCE: 8 SPEED: 10+ ENDURANCE: 5 RANK: 4 COURAGE: 10 FIREBLAST: 10+ SKILL: 9

Bio: A card-sharping, engex-guzzling, rough-and-tumble Cybertronian, Spacewarp has been everywhere, seen everything, done everything. She's plied the spaceways as a pirate, found work as a soldier-for-hire, even engaged in the occasional bout of freelance peacekeeping. She loves spinning yarns of her past exploits, and her tales grow with each telling. To hear her tell it, she's broker a peace between angry gods, saved the galaxy three and a half times, charmed tribes of primitive Cybertronians on long-lost colony worlds, accidentally destroyed an entire solar system, won all the gold the Galran Khanganete on a single roll of the dice, and even gone toe-to-toe with not one but two of the Thirteen. She claims her current, Mini-Con stature is but a temporary impediment, the legacy of a run-in with a time traveler wielding a Tissue Compression Eliminator device.

Regardless of her size, she's a force to be reckoned with. When binary bonded with Megatron, whom she finds fascinating in a case-study-of-a-tyrant way, she can utilize his connection to a black hole to power a space bridge to anywhere in the universe. In her spaceship configuration, she can achieve FTL velocity and even, under the right circumstances, pierce the dimensional veil between universes. Her most versatile form, the Transwarp Blaster rifle, can rewrite the fundamental properties of reality itself, tear a hole in space and time, or simply unleash a massive geyser of energy able to overwhelm all but the most heavily-shielded of targets. Despite her potent capabilities, or perhaps because of them, she tends to be overconfident; her physical strength is low, and she's not quite as clever as she thinks she is. She enjoys her partnership with Megatron, who has proved invaluable in extricating herself from the situations she blithely walks into. She's aware that he sees her as a tool, and intends to skedaddle should he ever push her too far. For now, though, she believes her abilities make her too valuable for him to carelessly exploit. She just may be right about that.
The author of this bio likes to think that the Doctor whom Spacewarp encountered was the Ninth Doctor.

Authorial intent though it may be, was it 9 or 10 that ended up shrinking Death's Head?

*goes to Wiki to look*

EDIT: Neither. Death's Head encounterz Doctor #7 in The CrossRoads of Time who uses a TCE on him to shrink DH to human size. (The Doctor seemingly was hoping for a little more...)

Still, its a nice nod in Spacewarp's bio to obscure muktifandom canon

The reason the author picked the 9th Doctor is, simply, because that's the author's favorite Doctor. :PEACE:

Never really got into Doctor Who, myself, but I'm aware of Tennant's popularity as the Tenth, and recognize his talents in the stuff I have seen him in.

That Optimus Prime has to be ultimate fandom in-joke produced, I love it! Megatron based on unrealised concepts (Spacewarp, the G2 Hero redeco) is good too. I can't place the weapons though... :-?

So they're shipping the two Pretenders together? I had just assumed they'd ship one of them with Counterpunch for parts 3-4. That's going to be a pretty big box! Then again I guess a box with a Pretender set, a CW Voyager Optimus Prime mold, and a bonus Deluxe would really be too much.

I loved Pretenders as a kid and both of these look just awesome! About time Megs had a Pretender after having all the others pinched from him or used on Starscream! :)

3rd, 5th, 11th and 12th for me. :P

The Prime looks kinda fun but I wouldn't want it as Prime but the colours particularly in vehicle mode appeal to me so much more than when it was Swerve.

I'm kind of surprised at all the praise these are getting, but that's ok...I was just never a fan of Pretenders, even in the original series, 1988 was when I started to stop collecting the toys and the Pretender Gimmick was a huge part of it. 1988 still had some cool toys (PM Prime, the Seacons, Overlord in Japan etc...) but I was pretty much done at that point.

To me these look horrible, but If those that purchased them truly enjoy them, then more power to you. I never thought a new line based on Pretenders would ever happen or work, but it seems as if there is at least some basis for a possible resurgence.

I guess the positive way to look at it is...if POTP decides to re-introduce Pretenders, it will make some fans happy, and it will make my wallet happy also with less toys I would want to buy.

The Megatron shell is made from the original tools used to make the Grand shell in G1. I was tipped off that it was still part of the Fortress Maximus tool library shortly after the Encore was released and when Fun Pub started talking Pretenders, it seemed predestined. lol

I'm not sure why the factory weren't also able to use the Fort/Grand sword & rifle. The Titans Return weapons that they found as replacements probably do look a little more appropriately "lethal" for a Megatron to wield though.

Here's how you can transform Megatron to fit into the shell and not rock back and forth:
https://twitter.com/JesseWittenrich/status/857747983533846528

You can also just fold the legs up behind him G1 PMOP style if you find it too finicky to get the legs sandwiched in while in the yoga pose.

Spacewarp is the small space shuttle figure and not the Pretender shell (if there was some confusion), I believe it has a face unlike the large Spacewarp (which I own).

My set arrived today! I found the packing a little unusual. The only tings in the foam are the two shells, unlike the previous set which had all of the figures in the foam. Optimus and Hi-Q are inside the shell, which made me cringe a little since they're just rattling around in there with nothing to protect them during shipping. They both seem fine so problems there. Megatron and Spacewarp are both in bags under the foam squished up against the cardboard so there isn't a whole lot protecting them either. I don't know, just feels like very haphazard packaging for such an expensive set.

That aside, it's a great set. My Prime does have slightly loose legs and the shell has trouble holding the weapons right thanks to his big thumbs being in the way. Hi-Q doesn't really plug into the shell well, he just falls right out. I do find Prime easier to get into the shell if you lay him on the door (basically on his back) first as the fins can be a pain to line up if you stick him in the shell first. I've never owned the Megatron mold before, can't say I'm too crazy about it. The shoulders keep untabbing and it's hard to overlook the big fists on the tank. He does look good holding that giant sword, though. :) Pretty clever figuring out how to stuff Megatron inside the shell, but I find that gray piece to be useless, Spacewarp falls off of it pretty easily.

But yeah, these guys are going to look great on the shelf.

Mine arrived today. Optimus is great, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how big his shell is.

Megatron falls into the category of "great idea, didn't quite work". Plus mine has some problems (Spacewarp's wings seem to be on crooked as the right one gets caught up on the body during transformation, and one of the pegs on the connector piece broke), so I might have to talk to someone, though I doubt there'll be options. :-(
