Looks like its a special 2016 expo exclusive or something. Completionists now have one more to hunt for

Also, I would love to watch a show about Hasbro designers revealing brand new products to cute asian women.

Kind of hoping they release a new leader Grimlock to go with this. The AoE leader was...disappointing, and if they're going with a knight theme in this one, Prime needs his mighty steed! Perfect opportunity to make a new one that a voyager can ride on without tipping over.

The video can be watched here (takes a while to load, give it time). It's filmed right at the Rhode Island headquarters with the Hasbro guys chatting away and the woman asking questions in English and then translating for the audience. It's a really cool video, well worth watching since they spend a lot of time showing how the art is done, even drawing up a neat red and gray Soundwave. It's a great look inside Hasbro!

You can't, it was custom decorated by the Hasbro team for the TV show. They get a really cool and huge piece of fan art in return.

Voyager Optimus Prime from Transformers: The Last Knight Officially Revealed on Tmall TV

PostPosted: Wed Nov 09, 2016 9:27 pm

Tmall TV, an online Chinese language show about consumer products, had a special episode on Transformers where they toured Hasbro's head office, got a history lesson of the brand by John Warden and were shown how the toys were made. Hasbro chose this as the occasion to officially reveal Voyager Optimus Prime from Transformers: The Last Knight by showing the process it took to make him. You can see screenshots of the show below where they go through all the steps, from design, to grey model, to finished sample.

The grey model shown is of the same toy and it is actually hand crafted by sculptors (before the mold for mass release is done). This model is then photographed and digitally painted.

The sample shown is confirmed to be according to the colours chosen by the designers. While anything can happen, this seems to indeed be the final colouring of the toy.

The conversion was said to take about 15 steps (with some steps being truncated as one for this estimate).

John Warden then said that Hasbro was currently working on 160 transformers toys, at different stages of course. While that seems like a big number, it would include redecos, one steps and one step redecos.

We then got a look at how an artist designs a toy, using Soundwave as an example.

The special ended with a shot of the entire Transformers team (which seems to have as many women as men, a pleasant surprise) while an exchange of gifts were. Tmall got a custom Year of the Horse Optimus Prime while Hasbro got a 5 meter long piece of art showing many different versions of Optimus and Megatron.

You can watch the entire hour long episode here, or simply take a gander at the screenshots below. Enjoy!

Because this gives a detailed run down of what's going on and confirms that it's a voyager along with the amount of steps it takes ect.

I suppose I have never seen a news post updated here, I guess starting new posts is how it's done on Seibertron. I just have it ingrained in me to always update news posts rather than start new ones whenever possible, otherwise people might mistake the new post for the old one they've already read and stop scrolling down.

That's why I made sure it was s different title. Also, if it had just been written, then yeah an update would be fine. But by then it had been a while, the news post was lowering down the front page and there was so mch to say that a new article seemed appropriate.

Are they designing a new Soundwave? I don't recognize the body, Id love it if they were making a new voyager! I still like my Takara FoC one, but an accurately scaled classics version would be great! I do realize that may be just an example of how they do their process rather than an actual figure, though.

Also the Optimus mold looks good, but looks like a lot of the detail might get lost in the blander plastics. I want to see him in hand, but I might get him if he's as complex as he looks.

Plus, this new one has the full video, better images, and it generates new social media posts, bringing new readers to the article. ;)^

So they're officially going with a bad looking toy, instead of a better looking one, for the new movie? I guess that one is 'cheaper' to make for a shelfwarmer.

It's only a Voyager and it's already considerably better looking than the Leader class figure we got for the last movie. I'd be surprised if they don't have a better looking Leader figure when the line fully launches.

I am really curious now. If they could figure out how to better engineer the voyager, how would an improved leader look like? :-? Then again Voyager Grimlock had better engineering than Leader Grimlock, in my humble opinion (no partsforming and no robot hands showing).

Seibertronians, we have some additional details on the newly-announced Transformers 5: The Last Knight Optimus Prime Toy. Coming from a post on the official Transformers Instagram, we have an additional shot as well as the full official product name of the first TLK action figure. It seems the figure will have more detail work than standard figures, inspired by Prime's movie paintwork. Take a look at the New "Premier Edition Voyager Optimus Prime" figure below, and tell us if you think this new "Premier Edition" Branding will become a new sublime for the movie figures.

Bit of a backpack, but honestly this figure looks pretty good, especially in contrast to the crap ones from AOE. I might pick him up for the comic.

Contrasting it with aoe (other than the excellent evasion mode version) is damning it with faint praise. I don't think it looks very good, but it's a single pic, I'll wait for more to judge.
