Let's face it....how do you accurately portray something in plastic that was cloth-like on the big screen? The only thing I can think of would be to include a soft rubber fold that could connect the two pieces making up the front and rear of the "trench coat" together. But that would likely be too stiff or tear too easily. For what they had to work with, it's a pretty good representation. It was another of the things that made the Bayverse bots so unique in TF history...they did things no one even considered before because everyone was locked into a traditional humanoid look. Hasbro and Dreamworks gave MB a basic set of guidelines, but basically said "Here's a blank check...let's see what you can come up with". We got bots without bodies, wheels for feet, cloth trench coats, built in weapon systems, the ability to rapidly alter alt modes (which I never understood why, if they were in disguise, they stuck with the SAME disguise for years to the point where EVERYONE recognized the disguise), and more organic looks instead of the traditional Robby-the-Robot blocky builds. Say what you want about the movies (popcorn fun, that's it though), they made more changes to the way Transformers were thought of and created than at ANY other point. And THAT is why they are so hard to replicate accurately in toy form.

I agree that's why I find it all the more impressive that the TLK toy achieved that impossible design better than the more recent toy.

In Hand Images of Transformers Studio Series Leader The Fallen and Core Rumble

For Bayverse fans, one of yesterday's biggest highlights was The Fallen while for G1 fans, it was Rumble. Well we now have in hand photos of both of those toys giving you a better look. Evan Brooks, the Hasbro designer, posted pictures of Rumble on Instagram. There we can see the comparison to the previous cassette bot mold from Siege and how it still fits within Soundwave and Blaster.

Donnay Wong, over on Facebook, posted some really beautiful and high quality images of the Fallen. We see both his faces as well as the complexity of his extra appendages and the various poses he can take. You can see all those images below.

Also super happy to see Sludge will get repacked for the holiday season, so I don't have to worry about hunting him or him not showing up yet.

It's the worst take yet since they just split it, so you have half in the front, then a gap at the sides, and then the rest of the coat in the back. Ends up looking more like a green version of that pope outfit on the top left.

The top half of crosshairs looks better though, as does the alt mode. But the main thing about him is botched.

Looking back at the livestream, it looks like those long car panels probably can fold out from the backpack and form the sides of the trenchcoat.

always nice to hear from the toy designers. Also great to see the seibertron news staff on tops of things. I thought I'd have to notify them about this one! Great job guys :D

Hear hear!

I have zero qualms with the shortcuts taken with Crosshairs because - as you said - his design is very difficult to implement on a regular toy (I've not seen many mass-produced, non-premium action figures with good-looking, functional trenchcoats), let alone one that has to transform into a car. I understand the appeal of screen accuracy, but Crosshairs in particular (along with Galvatron, Stinger, Devastator, Grimlock, Lockdown) are *never* going to get perfect toy representations because the mass-shifting/transformations in their movie counterparts are simply impossible to do in reality (IMO).

I love that the movies really stretched the concepts for what Transformers can look like, but the trade-off is that we can't get faithful representations of some of those characters. Guys like Crosshairs looking good from at least one angle is a fair trade-off for me

The front of the trench coat can also rotate to the side, so there should be a lot of options for posing the trench coat to make it look more complete

Thoughts!
The Fallen
Yes, big yes. I am enamored with this figure, he looks so good. And BIG! The vehicle mode is perfectly fine too, Cybertronian modes have always been fun to me the trick is just make it as wild and mishmashy from the robot mode as possible and this is in that vain enough to pass. Pumped

Hot Rod
Strangely I really want to get Hot Rod too :-? Not because of the movie, or his roll(?) in it, by ANY means. Just purely on the basis of it being a neat toy

Crosshairs
He looks incredible compared to the old version, love the accuracy in both modes. The trench coat car panel thing probably won't be as bad as most people dread, but more pics and videos will solve that decision in time. Still, not one for me

Okay, I'm very impressed by the detail on The Fallen. I was gonna pass on him because I generally don't care for Bayverse, but that's a good looking figure.

And yes, Rumble is an insta-buy.

Are you referring to how his car rolls in the film?

So we could tell from the stream that Transformers Studio Series leader class ROTF The Fallen was gonna be big, but how big? How does he compare to other leader class figures? Well, as we saw earlier today, it seems several people already have their hands on this figure as images from different people and sources are already making their rounds on social media. Here is one such picture with no known source yet (if you are the owner, let us know) and it gives us our best idea at how tall/big The Fallen is. It has him stand next to leader class Jetfire, from the same series.

This was probably the best stream Hasbro has done. yet. I was just expecting to see the rest of legacy wave 3 but then they showed studio series and just nailed every one of the bayverse figures. Also the hints saying that they know about the rest of TLK cast really gets me excited. Fingers crossed for the crew!

Crosshairs looks great. Love that they removed the kibble from his arms to give him a better front look.

Hotrod is perfect. I don't even know how to improve this design anymore.

The Fallen is another dream come true. I have been waiting for this since 2009. It is perfect in every way and I love that they actually made him huge like he should be! Even the altmode is awesome!

I preordered these 3 right when they went on amazon. Glad that they will be out in about 2-3 months too and not longer! Also, the designer interaction on Instagram is awesome. Love seeing the behind the scenes on the design.

Streams have really gotten better in general, with better presentation and some interesting tidbits by the designers. The chat between the design team is great. They obviously have to spout some marketing crap from time to time because ultimately, these streams are adverts and they have to sell you the toys. But you can feel the passion in these guys when they talk, and the genuine enthusiasm when they talk about an aspect of the toy they feel particularly proud of.

Yeah, this stream was great and streams have gotten better. I like when they just let the designer talk. really loved the bit about interacting with the Lamborghini company and how big an input they had. You never hear about stuff like this.

While not all fans like the Bayverse designs, it seemed pretty unanimous that the Hot Rod toy presented on tuesday's stream was a very impressive toy and one of the highlights of the reveals. It was also cool to know about Lamborghini having quite an input on the toy's looks. Sam Smith (not the singer) posted images of both that toy and the other 2022 wave 4 deluxe, Crosshairs, on his instagram. For Crosshairs, he demonstrates how dynamic the figure can be with how they handled the trench coat, and how it not connecting at the sides increases poseability. Enjoy!

Exactly, things like that, or the amount of people involved in making Megatron, or them just flat out saying that they couldn't factor Inferno's gun into the budget.

I will second that. And third, fourth, fifth, and sixth it. It's great to see how the front flaps of the "coat" work on Crosshairs...just fantastic work!
