Transformers Movie Masterpiece MPM-08 Discussion Thread

Thanks to an email notification from keen-eyed fellow Seibertronian itscramstastic, we have a new listing appearing on site sponsor Big Bad Toy Store concerning a new figure in the Transformers Movie Masterpiece toyline, a direct collaboration between Hasbro and Takara Tomy.

The listing, which you can find here, is supposedly for an eighth figure in the line, though no name is given. Speculation would lead us to believe that this might be the rumoured 2007 Transformers movie Megatron, given the price point (189.99 USD) compared to that of Optimus Prime. But let us know what you think in the discussion below, and add your own speculation in light of the April 2019 release date!

An MPM '07 Megatron? That sounds very pointy. Like SH Monsterarts Gigan pointy. Although it probably isn't Megatron, I'm still very curious as to how they would pull off an MPM version.

I guess if they can pull off ROTF Megatron in Studio Series, they can pull off 07 Megatron with this Masterpiece. It should and probably will be huge though, especially considering the price :-?

That reminds me: I may have missed out on something but did anyone make reviews for MPM-6 Ironhide yet?

$189.99 is what threw me too!! Movie 2007 Megatron?! That would be bananas. Considering all the MPMs have been Movie 2007 bots, that isn't out of the realm though. Maybe he comes with Jazz to rip in half?

Could it possibly be Starscream? I would love a MpM Starscream that would turn into an F-22 with no kibble. :D

Who do you want it to be then? I'd be fine with Starscream too. I thought it was Jazz until I saw the price.

It might not be 07 megatron, remember that next year will be the 10 year anniversary of ROTF so it could be ROTF Megatron, It could be Fallen, it probably won't be Devestator (But I wish it was, please HasTak give us a good ROTF Devy next year). It could be Prime with Jetfire armor or a Jetfire that can combine, preferably with canon sanctioned parts forming, with Optimus.

Given the nature of the redesign I would be stunned if 2019 doesn't see a MPM-03 with remoulded front bumper for ROTF Bee but at that price point MPM-08 won't be that.

I am sure its not Megatron. Probably more starscream. Dont know. But it wont be 07 Megs because Hasbro is in the business of selling toys, not having them shelfwarm

A Jetfire that both accurately combines with Optimus and is an independent accurate figure just isn't possible. End of story, get it through your heads and get over it. Too much of Jetfire gets taken apart and rebuilt differently as the armor for it to be feasible as a toy without rather a lot of compromises both ways. Granted, probably less without the need to accommodate a soundbox and a AA battery box, but still a lot.

This should be numbered as MPM-06, really. MPM-01 and MPM-02 shouldn't count.

Why don't you want Megatron? Movieverse Megs has routinely gotten it in the shorts when it comes to his toys (heavily compromised by electronics in '07 and '09, no Leader-class figure in 2011 because they made a f*cking Leader-class BUMBLEBEE...), so why don't you want it to be him?

I think it would be good if it was Megatron, either a better take on his '07 or '09 bodies or a proper go at his DOTM body.

If not Megatron, then a real MPM Starscream to replace MPM-01 would be good. The HFTD Leader Starscream mold is good, but it's not really up to Masterpiece standards and has one glaring flaw (no engines on the back in robot mode).

And I definitely would like to see an MPM Jetfire (which would have to be Supreme-class, I think) at some point because ROTF Jetfire is amazing and part of me still hopes the writers contrive a way to resurrect him.

Hey, a good toy of '07 Megatron with an accurate cannon and cleaner robot and jet modes and such, and without the stupid gimmicky ice paintjob and battery box fanny-pack, would probably actually sell.

I honestly wouldn't mind it being 07' megs as he had a really bad toy in both sizes.

the legends class is more accurate then the leader [-(

a good rotf megs wouldn't be too bad either

But we need a better devastator for real

maybe each of the constructicons sold seperately for a bigger line? :-?

Okay, my hopes for the details that a Masterpiece Movie Megatron in the MV1 design includes:

-A very nice paint job that replicates the rough metal that he's made from (THAT MEANS NO ICE UNLESS YOU WANT TO MAKE AN ICE CASE)
-Potentially a light up head (using button batteries)
-A transformation that doesn't require any automorph and keeps the robot mode clean
-A flail accessory that can be swapped with the right hand without spring-loaded gimmicks
-An arm cannon that also doesn't need automorph gimmicks
-And a great amount of articulation that won't weigh any of his limbs down if there'll be die-cast.

Also, I really hope that it's the size that makes up the price (along with the transformation), especially since Hasbro's starting to dive into big toys lately!

As an old school, original '84 fan, I'm surprisingly okay with and enjoy almost all of the live action movie character designs.

Megatron was a huge exception to that rule. I hate that design and have since my first viewing of the movie.

I am really excited about this rumored Movie Masterpiece figures, it is a figure I was hoping would receive a better figure for awhile now. I've been hoping since they announced the Studio Series toyline or when they brought back the Movie Masterpiece line. When it comes to this Megatron design the toys haven't done it justice, with the awful ice on the figure, the awful automorph techology, and the gimmicks which ruined the figures, a Movie Masterpiece Megatron would be big, chunky, and so so beautiful.

Well unfortunately for you then, he's a main character, what with being, y'know, Megatron and all. :-P And he's tied with ROTF Jetfire for characters who most desperately need the MPM treatment.

I just hope it's not AoE Galvatron. IMO his representation in the MPM line should just be a photo of the toy designers punishing the morons in the art department who came up with and approved him.

I feel like Megatron would be hard to resist since they could do a redeco that looks like it's covered in ice and frost. However, that's going to be a massive figure in MPM scale and would certainly cost more than $190 when Hasbro is releasing BW Megatron for $320 (not an "import" but an actual Hasbro release in the Takara Tomy box with a sleeve or something over it).

Nah, I agree with Will. For the price it's more likely Starscream.

New Stock Images of Transformers Movie Masterpiece MPM-08 2007 Megatron

Thanks to In Demand Toys on Facebook, we have our first look at the box for upcoming Transformers Movie Masterpiece MPM-08 2007 Megatron. We also have two new stock images which shows him in his robot mode and vehicle mode. These unflattering shots give us a better idea of the finished product. In robot mode we can see him fishing forming his cannon. In vehicle mode, we see that the mode is achieved more or less with Megatron doing a Superman stance with an alien nosecone in front of his face. Of course, there may be some mistransformation involved. The MSRP is said to be $159.99 USD and he will be available in September later this year.

Let us know if you like this toy and this design for Megatron, and if you look forward to including him in your collection.

Well, I immediately noticed that they've managed not to turn his head crest around. They really should have stuck to the other photos(they made him look much prettier).

and let's be honest here

the Superman thing? that was pretty obvious from the movie in itself. plus if they did in some other way, I don't think we would've had the same result. the Superman thing is a small sacrifice in the grand scheme of things in order to make this figure that much more better

I’m not really sure whether his head in the picture is mistransformed, or it was the concept art head and they’re giving us the option to have him with it. Looking good though

The more I see of this figure the more I am finding myself definitely looking forward to getting a design that looks more like the in-film model. I'm sure it will look great on my Bayformers shelf for sure. ;)^
