Hi All,

Couple of months ago I was asking about the differences between the latest release of the Hasbro Optimus Prime compared to the original release.

Well, I picked up the 20th Anniversary DVD Prime yesterday (Argos have it in their new catalouge at €105) and thought I would share my opinions on it.

Bad points: A blue gun - what's that all about? Really, it is not as bad as I thought it would be but just the fact it's blue throws me.

Chrome - as in NONE! Talk about cheap. I had originally planned to get the smokestack extentsions but now won't because they would be chrome and will not blend in with the new cheapness of this figure.

By the way, the pictures on the back of this figures box has long chrome smokestacks and a better paint app - the Masterpiece version perhaps?

Paint App - this is the worst part of the figure. It is really bad. The little yellow paches on his face are not well applied but the worst part is on his chest where the windows open for the matrix to go in.
The red paint is patchy at best and chipped in places. The little lights on the top of the cab have a lot of grey paint over spray which spills on to the red paint. For a figure that costs this much, it really is disgraceful.

All I can say is I am glad I did not have to spend money on it! Don't worry, I got vouchers from work!!!

Overall, this is a really cheap version of a great figure. For people in Ireland, at the price this figure is going for you're into the kind of money that will get you a Masterpiece Prime off the net and that is what I would advise you to do. Don't get the cheap immitation of a great figure, get the real deal.

That's sounds really crappy,

I've got one of these coming from an eBay seller, to add to my 20th/MP Prime/Convoy collection.

I had planned of putting new smoke stacks on it, but from what you say I’ll have to wait and see.

Thankfully it worked out at only £35 shipped.

The Argos price is just ridiculous. The voice box might be worth extra if the voice was any good but an extra £20?

I don't think so.

So if they arnt chrome what are the stacks and fuel tanks finished in?

Sounds like you are better off with the 20th Anniv version from TRU.

Here in the states they just hit clearance at Target. I picked up two @ $17.50 a piece. Not the best Prime ever, but definitely worth $17.50!

From what I can tell, the stacks and tanks are just made of grey plastic.

The display stand does look good. Looking down at it, it is designed to look like the Matrix.

It is a crazy price, but this is Ireland. But I was in London in November and saw one of these in Forbidden Planet there and I think it was even more expensive than that.

I have Masterpiece Megatron on pre-order, whihc is why I wanted Prime in the first place - God, Prime is going to suck like hell when Megatron is stood next to him!

Thats less than £9.00!!! Or the price of two meal deals at Burger King. Clearance really means clearance!

My original Hasbro versions (Grey/Black gun variants) and my MP versions are all MISB but I opened the Hasbro re-issue I got from hasbrotoyshop.com because the box was really smashed.

Anyway I put the longer smokestacks on him and they don't look horrible (to me anyway).

$17.50!!!!!!!!!!!

$17.50! I'm so sick of the rip off prices we pay for transformers over on this side of the pond! That's about ten times less than the price of the guy I got yesterday!

If it's any consolation, it wasn't easy to find the $17.50 price. It was very easy to find a $50 clearance price at Wal-mart, and somewhat easy to find a $35 clearance price at Target, but the $17.50 price took some effort.
