Sentinel Prime
Ditto. His actions drive the story, everything that happens is in response to him.

Anyways, I have a question for you all:

Who is the main character of Transformers Dark of the Moon? It would help if you all answered, no need for a big explanation, just curious to see if it's the same answer for everyone.

I would say that Sam and Optimus share that role. Both having to come with terms that world isn't matching their expectations.

I admittedly never saw The Last Knight (and don't really plan on it any time soon), but outside of that here are my rankings:

6. Revenge of the Fallen
5. Age of Extinction
4. Transformers 2007
3. Dark of the Moon
2. Bumblebee
1. The Transformers: The Movie

Hopefully Rise of the Beasts makes the top half of this list as well

One reason why I put AOE above DOTM:
It has a vehicle mode chase scene.
Let me explain,in DOTM Optimus and Megatron have truck vehicle modes, which is a very cool choice and can be interpreted in a variety of different ways, but they never interact directly in truck mode.
AOE also uses the truck symbolism for Galvatron and has chase sequence, leading directly to a confrotation between him and Optimus.

That's a good point for Prime and Megatron in DoTM, but in AoE Galvatron and Prime never interacted in vehicle mode either. Galvy chased him but IIRC by the time he caught him Optimus was in robot mode. I would have loved to see a truck race, not a chase. But I think after the stunt went wrong in DoTM where a stuntwoman got seriously hurt Bay probably backed off the vehicle chases out of caution.

I rewatched the first transformers live action film with my son recently and it is indeed the best of the Bay films. While I absolutely loathe the approach of making this more akin to a cloverfield or armageddon type of point of view where you are seeing these larger than life elements through a human perspective, it is well done. It achieves exactly what it sets out to do with really good effects.

So as an alien invasion film where the humans are the main characters, this works.

But as a transformers film, I think this is a bad take since it plagued all the other films since. In my mind, the Transformers are characters (they should be the main characters) and not monsters from space.

On another note, I was thinking of this the other day, how is it that Sentinel Prime is already in a modern airport firetruck alt mode when they find him?

Its not different from some versions of Transformers, where some characters have robots modes with parts based on Earth's vehicles, even before coming to Earth and scannning an alt mode.
(See G1, Transformers Prime, The Bumblebee movie and etc...)

The difference is this is the main villain for a huge blockbuster film, they could have made another model

Technically :-B he's in robot mode when he is found, so we don't know what his alt mode is. The 1st time we see the fire truck he's already on Earth, so it's easy to assume he just scanned a size-appropriate vehicle form for himself, probably taking cues from Optimus after he saw his alt mode. :-B

Sentinel actually does have different models before and after he gets the Rosenbauer alt mode:

While he maintains the same general color pallette, the placement of the colors is different in places and he's a darker red overall. The big thing is that he doesn't have any of the Rosenbauer markings (the 316 numbering, medical logos, or Rosenbauer logos) in this mode, and the wheels on his legs aren't the actual tires that show up when he does have the alt mode

After:

While the two models are similar (and he does still have the chest windows, though there aren't any windows with that exact shape on the Rosenbauer), they actually did model him differently for before he gets the new alt mode!

yeah, someone had pointed that out to me, I don't remember when and where, it's pretty cool. Probably too subtle if my dumb ass couldn't really tell the difference, but still cool that they put that extra effort there
