Why did they change Drift's color into black and robot is red between the two movies instead of just making his 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R dark blue and blue as well like his previous form?
I never like this sudden red change in The Last knight.

Was there any explanation for it? Barricade was more subtle since police cars can sometimes be blue in countries.

He changed his alt mode as well, and the car company does have a say in the colour they want. It could be that Mercedes preferred advertising a black mercedes to people rather than a blue one.

It's still a weird change in my opinion that Drift was red in robot form. Age of Extinction Optimus was also slighty jarring that he gained more blue instead of red.

Beast Wars had similar experimenting with colors like Transmetal Rhinox is Silvery Gray with Metallic blue and black accents in robot mode. Transmetal Waspinator was red but a Fox Kids version was a realistic wasp yellow.

Don't forget Bumblebee updated his vehicle model every movie. ;)

It could very well be Bugatti only wanted/needed one movie for advertising, and once that had come and gone Hasbro needed a replacement company. Bugatti does specialise in expensive high-end models not necessarily for the common consumer, especially the Veyron.

I was intending on talking about colors not the models. Most of Bumblebee's cars are quite close to each other in design. The 1974 Camaro and a 2009 Camaro look like next to each other was the great since he just landed. Muscle cars are neat but 2009 Camaro in the 2007 most is almost futuristic by comparison.
They always managed to keep Bumblebee colors with similar stripes or focus black and in yellow as a the secondary.

But TLK Drift i felt that he was just weird in red. Which is all just packed away under the whole vehicle. They could have have used dark orange colors like the 2015 RID Drift which would make a lot better sense with the red.
