I guess they decided that kids wouldn't want to play with a rusty cab, so they G1ed it.

Just my thoughts.

Oh, we know for a fact that the Evasion Optimus is the same as the rusty cab Optimus in the film. They are one and the same. Chances are, they G1-ified it for the collectors. I'm pretty sure kids don't care about rusty decos. I mean, look at Mater from Cars. He's had several rusty incarnations and they sold just fine. I think this was aimed at the adult collector, this time.

Ah okay, didn't know if people had figured it out. Feel free to delete this thread :D

Yup, I've been saying for a while that the flat nose Cab was Optimus Prime. You certain shots you could see the G1 syle striping on the side and a faded Autobot symbol. I even have a theroy that they either go back in time, or show flashbacks. But as I'm typing this I'm remembering that they came to earth in the frst movie, so it could be that him and BB are just hiding out in the midwest somewhere. :-?

My guess for the basic outline of the first part of the film is that we start out with Walhberg and company living someplace out of the way and hiding Autobots from the government (ala X-Men). Hence OP and BB's older beat up alt modes. Its possible that the wreckers and Ratchet, who have been seen on-set, might be used as demonstration of Earths hatred towards Cybertronians of all kinds (ala Bumblebee's capture in movie 1 but with them killing them).

As we got that leaked summary that detailed the characters, I guess the sequence of events is this:

Intro with humans and the hiding cybertronians
Discover the artifact de-jour
Bumblebee and Optimus adopt their new forms
Lockdown arrives and kidnaps daughter, BB and OP, possibly steals the new artifact
Likely Walhberg and boyfriend team up and go after them (Team prob includes the Sonic RS, Hound, Crosshairs and Stinger)
Storyline take them to china where I guess OP and BB escape with the Dinobots (more prisoners of Lockdown?)
Likely Stanley Tucci's character is introduced along with Drift (Prize creation? Human made TF?)
Drift probably joins the Autobots/Dinobots in a climatic battle against Decepticons/Government TFs/Other in Hong Kong
Story leads somehow to a factory (TF manufacturer) where maybe they're reverse engineering Megatron's body into a new TF (Perhaps a battlesuit for Kelsey Grammer's character?)
Galvatron is introduced (love to see Kelsey Grammer become Galvy, like Cylas/Silas.)
Probably a big fight between Optimus and Galvatron with Drift and Grimlock thrown in.
Ends maybe with them going into hiding again, Galvatron and Lockdown teaming up or something

Just my two cents

Maybe Optimus scans new form to hide from Autobot hunters/USA Goverment? He also could be seriously injured and use he's rusty cab truck form to negate he's physical weakness.

I just wish they keep him with one arm :( After all, Ratchet is really lazy medic, creation new arm could take him some time.

Given that he's called "Evasion" Optimus Prime I figure he's just gone "in disguise", hence the different run down form.

My take on this mode of OP--

After killing Megatron and Sentinel, the human emotion of guilt overtakes him, scans the rusty truck as a tribute to his "brother", goes to wherever Cade's farm is, hiding until the artifact is found, befriends the new humans, regains his confidence, then scans the Western Star and returns to his old self.

I was thinking that he scanned the rusty truck as a result of depression due to the events of DOTM.

It dosen't make any sense.

Sorry I got to agree with TurboMMaster here. This is movieverse Optimus, he gets over guilt by shooting Decepticons. IN THE FACE!

That seems to be the case, but what confuses me is that truck is a lot smaller than his original alt mode. I don't know how they're going to pull that off without mass shifting.

I quess that after battle with Sentinel, he just isn't whole anymore, as we know, healing in this universe can be slowly.

I'd buy me the rusty Prime, maybe not an exclusive limited edition because I'm a bit of a cheap arse. There'd probably be a good lot of "zombie-Prime" kitbashing if they mass produced it.

I'm always kind of amused by the flashy nature of the alt modes, robots in disguise? I don't know about you guys but I'd be getting my perv on if I saw a truck with flames not so much a rusty cab so I'm not overly convinced by any hiding because of injury idea.

Mr. Bay has a habit of being really sneaky with characters and their designs, I won't hold my breath on anything until I'm in the theatre.

Yeah, it's definitely Optimus Prime. What puzzles me, though, is that between his three alt-modes, he chose two absolutely immaculate custom trucks, and then an old rust bucket with a faded paint job.
