You may remember a story we mentioned on
Saturday, December 23rd about the Transformers Masterpiece MP-15 / 16-E Cassettebot vs Cassettetron TakaraTomyMall Exclusive sets making their way into collector's hands. They are figures of Nightstalker, Wingthing, Stripes and Enemy which are repaints and new molds of Steeljaw, Ratbat, Ravage and Rumble/Frenzy. We finally have more images of that taking place from various fans across Twitter who have gotten their items! Some folks are warning of fragility problems with some of them, so it might be best to handle your own sets carefully as well when you receive them.

Thanks to
Hasbro Studios, we also have some new details on the other animated series that will accompany Rescue Bots Academy in the year 2018 - Transformers: Cyberverse. Also produced by Hasbro and Boulder Media, the series will see 18 episodes of 11 minutes each (similar to Machinima's current format for Titans Return), and will be aimed at 6 to 11 year old audiences.
We will share more information as soon as it's made available, but for now take a look at the full synopsis below, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub!
“Bumblebee is on a critical mission where lives are at stake! Only, he can’t remember what it is? It’s a good thing his best friend Windblade has found him to help repair his damaged memory chips. With each recovered memory, Bumblebee rediscovers his past adventures on Cybertron before coming to Earth. He relives fun moments when he played Cybertronian sports with his friends, and even tragic ones that would change his life. His past will shape him into becoming the hero we know today. As each memory is repaired, another clue comes to light that will lead them both to complete their shared mission to save their friends and Earth… however, the Decepticons are hot on their heels and time is running out.”

And finally, our third preview of a newly released Transformers comic from IDW Publishing sees the character of Drift - introduced all the way back in All Hail Megatron, and become a mainstay in most of the stories since - show up in all of his Drift-centric stories, from Spotlight: Drift, to his eponymous mini-series to the Empire of Stone follow up, of which we are seeing repercussions to this day, more or less in the background (keep an eye out for that in the likes of Lost Light).
Check out the full preview below, and join the discussion in the Energon Pub discussion boards!
Transformers Drift: Origins & Empires
Shane McCarthy (w) • Alex Milne, Guido Guidi, Marcelo Ferreira (a) • Livio Ramondelli (c)
Repentant villain Drift roams the galaxy, waging a solitary war on his former allies, delivering swift justice to any Decepticons that cross his path. But with many Autobots refusing to trust him, and many Decepticons sure he's pulling a scheme, walking the straight and narrow path won't be easy, and Drift—previously known as Deadlock—must repeatedly face the consequences of his past mistakes. Collects Transformers Spotlight: Drift, Transformers: Drift #1–4, and Transformers Drift: Empire of Stone #1–4.

There has been a lot of talk about how odd it is that more and more Takara toys are the exact same as the Hasbro released. We saw it with Trypticon but even more with the Transformers: The Last Knight toylines where even the box was the same. And now with the
Power of the Primes toys looking identical for both companies (an example is given below) and
both company logos appearing on the upcoming Studio Series toys, this similarity for multiple lines is getting fans both concerned and confused. Is there any hope that those images from Takara were still just placeholders? And what exactly is going on?
Well, the upcoming Figure King magazine (number 239) sheds some light on that and clarifies that indeed what we are seeing is true and intended to be the very same toys. There will be three pages dedicated to Takara's Transformers and the
Snakas blog reports that we will not only see the same Power of the Primes toys we have already seen (and which many of us already own) but it will also discuss the new path Takara is taking with figures being identical to Hasbro. The Snakas blog quotes the magazine to say that the companies are "
unifying the world brands on an unprecedented scale".
This does confirm the fears many fans had, where Takara is choosing not to do their own take on Generations toys, unlike what has been the case with the Legends line so far. While the movie toys have already been very similar between brands in the past, having other lines be identical at the same time is indeed unprecedented.
This definitely confirms that both companies are looking at their own markets first and foremost and that issuing the same toys for both markets must be more beneficial than the added money of imports. Or at least, this is what would seem to be the case with such an unprecedented decision.
While it does mean that the same deco from Hasbro's Power of the Primes will also be seen in the Takara releases under the same toyline name (which so far excludes complete combiner teams), it does bring about the idea that maybe Takara is satisfied with the deco for their own market. Jazz for instance is a deluxe combiner which uses clear plastic and thus demands a lot more paint and the only combining deluxe to also need that was Groove which was a Takara design. So instead of seeing this as Takara lowering their standards for deco, it could be that this unified deco instead takes the Hasbro deco to higher standards than before. What do you think? Let us know!

We have some pretty big news breaking today on the future of Transformers Cartoons on TV! As we all know, the current Rescue Bots TV show came to an end last year. There have been rumors swirling for months of a replacement series, Rescue Bots Academy. We finally have confirmation that this series is indeed coming from the Boulder Media production house.
UPDATE: We now
have a PDF from Hasbro Media themselves, which gives us an extra slide showing the plot synopsis of the series:
These screenshots are coming from a user on Twitter by the name of
Chevistian Cordova, who attended a Hasbro/Paramount/Boulder Media press conference, where they covered the future in Transformers animation, meaning Machinima's Power Of the Primes, Cyberverse, and our first look at the new Rescue Bots sequel. Check out the screen caps below!
We also have some details about the series from the same source:
"First Look To Hasbro Studios Sequel Series To #Transformers #RescueBots #RescueBotsAcademy produced by @BoulderMediaLtd Debuting This 2019 with a season of 52 episodes aka 26 half hours On Some Network Cross Fingers For @DisneyXD imb4 @DiscoveryFamily"

Operation: First 2018 Guest Acquired!
The first reveal of this new season of TFNation comes from the voice acting world, for fans of all ages: introducing, D.C. Douglas!
Famous in the Transformers franchise for his role as Chase the Police Bot in Rescue Bots, Douglas has been a regular go-to resource for updates about the show itself and is also well known beyond the transforming robot world.
If you're a videogame aficionado, you will recognise him as Legion in the Mass Effect series - a gestalt artificial intelligence unit. Both Chase and Legion were similarly influenced by Leonard Nimoy's approach to Spock, in their respective ways.
He has also appeared in seven Resident Evil games as Albert Wesker, as Kamoshida in Persona 5, Pod 042in Nier: Automata, Azrael in Blazeblue, Zero in Zero Time Dilemma 3, Raven in Tekken 6, and foxy grandpa Gunter in Fire Emblem: Fates.
If cartoons and anime are more your thing, you will have heard him voicing X Drake in One Piece, The Professor in Cyborg 009, Jasley in Mobile Suit Gundam: IBO, Genji Kamogawa in Hajime no ippo, Shori Shibuya in God, Save Our King!, and Colonel Rawls on Regular Show, Superman on Family Guy.
His on camera roles include the seminal cinematographic masterpiece Sharknado 2 (Bud), plus Zepht in Star Trek: Enterprise, Pa Kettle in Z Nation, and Aiden Wexler in SyFy’s Isle of the Dead.
D.C. Douglas will be joining TFNation for the entire duration of the convention, offering autographs, photo opportunities where possible and joining panels over the weekend.
Launch tickets, bedrooms details, further guests and activities will be announced in the coming months. Keep monitoring this frequency.
