The Hollywood Reporter has published a new interview, this time with Jerrod Carmichael, who plays Jimmy in Transformers: The Last Knight. During the interview, Jerrod talks about how The Last Knight was a big learning experience, as he actually had to change a joke he had created because it would not translate well in other languages. He also talks about how money is a factor in bringing actors together, but how having the fun they did on set was also a good way to bring them together. He also refers to Sir Anthony Hopkins as "C-Hop" and Hopkins actually responds to it. Check out the full interview by following the link above, and catch a few snippets below.

118-degree heat in Arizona sounds like a pretty rough first day.

But it was nice because sometimes you feel so sterile in these sound stages, just standing around and holding green tea. We were sweating and running and it felt like a real experience. And Michael Bay is such a hands-on director — he’s sprinkling dirt on people’s faces and handling the smoke machine and the camera and the lights.

.....

Was there anything that you weren’t expecting about blockbuster filmmaking?

Running was a surprise. It was a great deal of running — and I mean long-distance running. Because there are helicopters capturing [the scene]. We are outside of Stonehenge and Mike’s on a bullhorn like "I need you run from over here to over there." And that’s just take one so he goes "Okay, do it again!" It’s truthfully the most I ever worked out before in my life.

.....

Has seeing Michael Bay at work inspired you to try filmmaking yourself?

Filmmaking is unique in that you craft everything around it — the lighting, the dialogue, the scenery, the perspective — and I’m infatuated with that now and it’s where a lot of my attention has been as of late. I think that now more than ever you have to be cautious of doing something because you can versus doing something because you can contribute to it. I am still figuring out exactly how I can contribute, as a director. But I want to make sure that in doing it it’s not just because I could, because that is not a good enough reason. You owe audiences more than that.

After the previous confirmation of the movie being set in the 1980s, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura also teased Bumblebee's possible incarnation in the movie as the traditional G1 Volkswagen Beetle model - though obviously take it with as much salt as you can grab.

“You might even see a VW Bug,” Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura tells EW. “You never know.”

The producer also talked more about the story of the movie, and why now is the best time to work within the Paramount/Hasbro shared universe, name-dropping a couple of other toy franchises as he went.

“The interesting thing about doing a spin-off is it has to have some familiarity with the franchise, and then it has to have its own distinct qualities for it to stand on its own,” di Bonaventura says. After that, Paramount is trying to see if Transformers — and a few other Hasbro toy properties, like M.A.S.K. — can become part of an expanded universe.

Obviously, the Bumblebee film serves as a kind of prequel to the Bay movies.

“It’s the story of a 17-, 18-year-old girl who, through a series of events, she and Bumblebee find each other, and they make each other whole,” di Bonaventura said. “Bumblebee’s a very loving character. He’s got a lot of heart, so of course the idyllic life of these two is interrupted by the evil Decepticons. And how are they going to be able to deal with the problem without Optimus and without everybody else?”

With Transformers: The Last Knight reaching cinemas worldwide (mostly, does not apply in Japan and other regions) this weekend, we delve into the other movie in the Paramount Universe: Bumblebee! Courtesy of Screenrant and producer Lorenzo diBonaventura, we know that the movie starring Hailee Steinfeld will start shooting this August - with plans for a sixth movie in the linear series to *maybe* happen in 2019.

Transformers News: Transformers: Bumblebee 2018 Starts Shooting in August, Maybe Sixth Film in 2019

In our exclusive interview with Transformers: The Last Knight producer Di Bonaventura, the premiere blockbuster filmmaker told us that filming on Bumblebee will begin this August, followed by an expected theatrical release later next summer. Exclusive:

“Well we’re going to shoot a prequel actually, a Bumblebee movie, which starts in August, so next summer we’ll see a Bumblebee movie. And then we hope to have another Transformers movie the following summer.“

[...]

“Look, I always wait for the audience, because there’s an arrogance to getting ahead of your audience. When you do, you get punched. So we’ll wait each time. We’re planning a lot of movies, but you’ve got to have the audience’s support, because these movies are very expensive.“

There is a possibility that the studio is waiting for more information on box office performance for The Last Knight, not off to a great start as of yet. Read the whole piece here!

After with the confirmation of Hailee Steinfeld for the Bumblebee spin-off movie from Paramount's Transformers series, we have more information on the time setting (confirmed as 1985) and general feel of the project, directly from producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura. Check out some snippets below, and the full piece and video over on Collider!

Collider’s own Steve Weintraub recently spoke with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura at the press day for The Last Knight, and he teased a distinctive film while confirming that Bumblebee will indeed take place in the 1980s:

“I know we’re doing a spinoff first in the Bumblebee movie, and that is a very distinctive departure from what you’ve been seeing so far… The objective of that movie is to develop more time with less robots in a way, and to go back to 1985 and go back to sort of the original heritage if you would of the Transformers. G1.”

[..]

As for the “less Transformers” line, di Bonaventura stresses the distinctiveness of Bumblebee, and just focusing on just one or two Transformers in the course of a film will be a very different kind of dynamic from the previous movies:

“There are dramatically less Transformers. We hired purposefully Travis Knight, who is a very distinct filmmaker. You can’t compete with Michael—you’re gonna lose. And also I think the audience wants something different all the time, let’s keep them interested. They’re gonna get a very emotionally complex story, a very tight story in terms of its location and in terms of its storytelling.”

[..]

“In fact it reminds me a little bit of Iron Giant years ago when I did that movie at Warner Bros. It just reminds me a little bit of that where it was very contained and yet it didn’t feel small.”

There was an expectation for Tyrese Gibson to rejoin Josh Duhamel for Transformers: The Last Knight - as his character from the 2007 movie, Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon - but plans did not go as ..well, planned. Due to scheduling conflicts, Gibson was taken up by Fast 8 during the location shootings for TLK, and it just didn't work out. Read more below, and here for the full piece!

“I’m not in the next one,” he explained. “So the truth is when we were shooting Fast 8, I closed my deal for Transformers 5, and I was supposed to go from Fast 8 to T5.

“But because they shot a lot of the movie in Europe, my schedule didn’t allow for me to go from Atlanta to London in between those days.

“I mean, I was p****d. The goal was for me and Josh Duhamel to come back and surprise the fans, that two of the guys from the original Transformers were back. Josh Duhamel was available and I wasn’t. So I was p****d.”

The Forged to Fight is getting a massive update today with new playable characters like Drift coming out tomorrow. You can read all about the update here. Seibertron was able to interview the game developpers regarding the update, enjoy!

The people interviewed are:

Cuz Parry : Head writer (has previously written the entire Skate series)
Mike McCartney: Game Director
Adam Cooper: Lead character artist
Pablo Greenham: Lead environment artist
Marcelo Matere: Promotional artist (Packaging artist for Hasbro since Armada)
Darren Evenson: Character designer
Nick Williams: Lead VFX artist
Derek Ng-Cummings: Animator

What do you find most exciting about the 2.0 update?

Cuz: Daily log ins. I just like the routine of it. You wake up, check your phone, get your free stuff for the day, you feel good.

Derek: How it will be a whole new experience to players.

Darren: The out of box experience. It has a better presentation, a better flow/pacing. It’s a whole new package I hope fans will like.

Nick: Drift as a playable character finally plus Hot Rod.

Pablo: The new environment with chunks of Cybertron floating around.

Mike: The new characters coming out. It’s also a massive update when looking at all the small changes everywhere, from presentation to daily freebies. Those who haven’t played yet, this is really the time. It’s how we wished the game would have been at launch and we hope that those who gave it a shot and left can come back to see how improved the experience is. We truly are making a Triple A game that you can play on your phone. At least our workload sure feels the same as when we were working at other Triple A companies (i.e. EA).

Also related to Transformers: The Last Knight - and following the recent news of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean hack issue - we have a snippet from a PGA event attended by producer Ian Bryce. The event saw PGA President Lori McCreary discussing the troubles with security for digital products, and the difference with print versions of the same. Check out the specifics below, and here for the whole piece!

McCreary, who admitted that her company had experienced a hack, urged caution and attention to this area, and Transformers: The Last Knight producer Ian Bryce agreed. “We don’t have prints,” he said. “We are sending [digital] footage [around the world to different countries], temp footage to final shots, and people are going to be after it. When you invested $150 million in a production, that’s risky.”

In some movie new which - for once - isn't a new trailer, we have an Access Hollywood interview with Transformers: The Last Knight cast member Isabela Moner (from a long while ago, judging by her hair length), in which we find out how she got the role, and what she got up to on set. Other than introducing Anthony Hopkins to Snapchat filters, that is.

Check the video out here, and join the discussion in the Energon Pub!

"Transformers: The Last Knight" star Isabela Moner talks with Access Hollywood Live's Natalie Morales and Kit Hoover and shares the resourceful way she auditioned for her role. Plus, Isabela shares how "Transformers" co-star Mark Wahlberg was a real father figure for her. "Transformers: The Last Knight" lands in theaters June 21.
