Skybyte is my name
Enjoying my life on Earth
Why me, in G2?

Its CR/RiD's 10th anniversary. Hasbro clearly won't do anything to celebrate so Botcon are giving us a much desired character from the series.

Solid figure, kinda boring colour-wise, but I'm still looking forward to it. Though the one app I wish they didn't do was the " :G2BOT: Autobot " written across the windshield.

Yeah, G2 Breakdown was natural, being the first ever Botcon exclusive, but I don't really see the point of repainting other Classics molds into Protectobots that don't combine or have new heads. As regrettable as it is that G2 Protectobots and Stunticons weren't mass produced, my greatest regret from G2 is that Marvel comic continuity finally got axed just when Furman had given it so much potential, so I'd be more excited about a box of Vehicons repainted into random mint-and-white minions of the Cybertronian empire, even if they didn't have the resources to tackle specific characters like Jhiaxus or Mindset. Maybe that's just me though.

However, I do agree that with the right paint job, Classics Silverstreak could be a perfect Rapido, and hope that's more than just a rumor. I'd also love to see Cybertron Jetfire/Dreadrock repainted into Terradive, since he was the first realistic large bomber, but his Sky-Scorcher mold left him dinky compared to your average fighter jet alt-mode, so he's long overdue for some BIG toy respect.

As the Autobot equivalent to Breakdown of course. And Prowl was the most obvious to use out of the what mold's were available. Plus the individual members of the combiner teams are decent characters in their own right. Its very unlikely that Hasbro will ever give us another proper combiner but that doesn't mean we should never see those individuals return again.

Hurmph...as much as I knew his colors would be mostly black...this is definitely on the boring side of things. Like just all black? Ok. Guess the new head molds are gonna go to SkyByte and Clench then. Didn't think SB needed one, but let's hope it's a good one! There's usually one figure in a set that I don't like...so far Streetwise, you're in the lead!

Yeah, Breakdown has some precedent, what with his unreleased G2 figure being well known and his Action Master figure. Streetwise doesn't ring with that same familiarity. I'd rather see that mold turned into a G2 Jazz.

I'm still hoping for a G2 Ramjet and maybe a Hooligan

With the exception of the Autobot on his windshield, I like him. the colors are bland but they work for that mold. I'm starting to like this set.

I wanted to love this toy so bad..
And the car mode is quite striking...

But the bot is soo bland.. That head couldn't be detailed? The gun?

The Digi-Bash of Prowl as Barricade is infinitely better......

Bland as bot mode is tho, I want it....... VIVA LA CLASSIC UNIVERSE!!

I'm guessing this means Clench and Skybyte get the head resculpts then. Unless it's gonna be figures outside the box set, not sure if they've done that before or not... ::checks the wiki:: :-)

Streetwise doesn't ring with that same familiarity. I'd rather see that mold turned into a G2 Jazz.

A white toy recolored into a white toy? Thats something people who already own Prowl would gladly pay $40 for.

I would.

I've seen kitbashes on Ebay where people turned that mold into Jazz and I wanted it. If they gave him a new head and just gave him race car details (even the gaudy G2 ones) I'd be a happy camper. I want a deluxe Jazz.

Looks more like a G2 Barricade

Why couldn't they have done G2 Sideswipe?

I'm kinda Underwelmed on this one as well.

leokearon wrote:Why couldn't they have done G2 Sideswipe?

I think we will see that in Genreations. It's too easy not to do, and the only reason, IMHO, that Botcon would pass on it is that Hasbro plans on using it to fill out Wave 2.

No credible evidence, just a hunch on my part.

Nice paint job. It would actually make a good "Classics Barricade" if you put a decepticon logo. But why would they print "AUTOBOT" on the windshield ??? That is beyond stupid looking. It's just tasteless on the part of the designer. Like if the figure was designed for toddlers...

Blurrz wrote:Don't waste your time, he's said the same thing for Spark and Breakdown.

Youre right, I did say the same thing about the other two.

I base my statement on these beliefs:

1. The names on the figures looked stupid 20 years ago and they still look stupid today.

2. The idea of "Classics" line is supposed to be about improvement. Thats the reason for creating new figures rather than selling re-issues or knock offs of the 1990's molds. Most fans would consider removing the names a vast improvement.

3. How many fans would be outraged if they did not put the names ??? You could probally count them on one hand.

Honestly, Im no fan of G2. It was the classic example of "beating a dead horse". When G2 came out, most G1 fans including myself were in their teens and never knew G2 even existed. And the younger kids of that era werent feeling Transformers. They were more into Ninja Turtles and the introduction of 16 bit video games. So thats why G2 bombed. Now nothings wrong with a little retro. But sheesh...take off the silly names. Just keepin it real.
Re: 3rd BotCon 2010 Exclusive - Streetwise (1066945)
Posted by Blurrz on April 22nd, 2010 @ 2:48pm CDT
Your argument is fair, but the meaning of a homage is to be as close to the original as possible. I don't like the names either, but to be an authentic G2 homage, they've got to be there. While I'm all about being new and looking for change, Botcon's known for having the best repaints, and they aren't going to skim out on what they're doing - If they have to go big or go home.. they're going full blown G2. It doesn't matter if the mold they're repainting is from Classics, Armada, Energon, or Animated, they'll neuter it and use it however they want to.

Oh well, who displays Botcon figures in Alternate Mode? :KREMZEEK:

I know it's just a picture and we don't know for certain, but can anyone tell if the missle launchers are removed? Streetwise doesn't have them at all, G1 or 2, but I'm curious if they're taking them off for Botcon.

On a related note, I like this figure. It's the first one from this set that I do like. Im not going or ordering it, so it doens't matter much at all, but I just wanted to say that this looks like a nice use of the mold, and I don't really care for this mold in general. I'd say a black Decepticon from this mold, I don't care if it's Barricade or if we don't have to perpetuate the movieverse in every other line then as someone else. But this is a snazzy mold in black.

Nope, the missile launchers are just folded back over the windshield in the back. Look closely and you may see the right one.

This doesn't look like Streewise in Bot mode, it looks like Dark Prowl, or Lucky Draw Prowl, or something.

I would have prefered to see them use the Breakdown head on this too. Sure it would make them look like twins, but maybe cooler...maybe not.

I'll be glad to have it, but I won't be sure what to 'call' it. So I guess it's Streetwise.

Slapping a big gaudy looking name sticker was also common with some car manufacturers in the early 90's, as was ridiculous G2-ish paint colors. Here's a '93 Tracker for example with a pink name on the side, and just the other day I saw a black one with pink and blue stickers.

I think the black police car paint job is sweet, and the waist light bar is awesome, cant please everyone I guess.

Weird. I'd almost rather they found another name, any black car from G2, than make up something ridiculous.
