Both Grimlock and Optimus, along with the rest of wave 1 (and possibly wave 2), will see release at retail on May 17th. However, some stores have already broken the street date, such as K-Mart, which we reported on here. So keep an eye out, might see them sooner!
We've embedded both videos below:

Well, they're not used to the magic of robuts, it seems.
Robuts. Tee hee.

Is anyone really excited for the new toys? I mean I know there are a lot of you guys here that get excited over anything because you simply collect anything. But even then are you that excited?
It's already made it's mark in stores in my area. TRU and every place else has held off on ordering any of the recent Generations stuff. I'd been waiting for a while and I thought there'd be a plethora of new stuff for me to get when I went out of town, but no such luck. I did manage to get Whirl, Scoop, and the Minicons, one of which had a broken head (combined in-package is a bad idea). But those were single sightings at each store, pure luck on my part. Also there were some old DoTM figures that nobody wants EVERYWHERE just like it's always been.
Thankfully the internet exists or else Rhinox, Cosmos, and everyone else in current/future lines would be impossible for me to get. Still, I'm gonna have to pay extra for them now.
I wish I could say with certainty the next movie will flop, so this horribleness would never happen again. Unfortunately it has Dinobots in it.
Ten outta ten, hundred outta hundred, best picture.

I dont mind the chrome on the robut per say, they are trying to be a bit more movie accurate (though it should be a darker metallic finish). What I do mind is how the chrome finish might wear off, making the figure look a bit more like crap later.
Also I just noticed that I have no clue whether the dinobots will transform or not in the film. Has this been confirmed yet?

Yes, I am THAT excited for the toys but it may be an age thing. I dont care for the films much or the movie esthetic on its robots. BUT I love 3 things: complexity, sleek designs, and Dinosaurs transformers. I got my first beast war transformer when I was 8 (that was my second transformer ever, my first was G2 Dreadwing when I was 5 but I didnt know what transformers were then and I just kept him as a robot) and it was Terrasaur. I then got Megatron for Christmas. These were like dreams come true, dinosaurs that became robots, two kinds of toys I liked most.
Though I do marvel at how well these toys were made for their time, I have grown up and started looking for more than just dinosaurs that transform. The movie lines have lead to more complex transformations at a mass retail level which we can now see in the generations figures (Optimus from WFC for instance who has 23 steps). Heck, though I dont like the overly busy movie designs, one of my favourite transformers of all time is Bludgeon from ROTF. Having a tank become a samurai armour with threads acting as leather guards is brilliant. The figure didnt incorporate too much of the movie esthetic (as proven by its use of the mold for other non movie figures) but its engineering came from a need to add complexity to the transformations of movie toys. And now, finally, after all these years, Hasbro has a chance to bring this evolved complexity and skill in design to dinosaurs again. And another samurai at the same time. So I reread what I just wrote and I cannot help but feel excited about these new transformers.
I do not have the budget to buy everything that comes out. I am only interested in well made transformers, who look good in both alt modes, have a sleek design and a somewhat complex transformation (this movie line has the deluxe to leader figures change in 15-19 steps which is better than the average 11 on most beast hunter figures). I am also extremely fond of dinosaur alt modes and samurai robut modes, so this movie line really speaks to me.

Oh man, you don't even know how pumped I am. In a couple weeks, I get to go to the store and buy a whole big ton of Transformers. That doesn't happen much anymore. The past two years has been this slow trickle of new releases - a thing here, a MP there, maybe a wave of 4 over yonder, but that's it. Movie releases are the one time I can go to the store and buy like 20 things at once, and that excites me to no end. That's like a whole day (a Saturday no less!) of opening boxes, putting up a shelf of entirely brand new molds, throwing away boxes, probably drinking to excess, and just not acting my age. That excites me. I'm a grown up, I don't get to be dumb but for a few times a year.
As for the toys themselves, there's a lot to not be excited about. However, the "Generations" part of the line looks good, and the "Power Battlers" are just Fast Action Battlers renamed, and that was a line I found fun. I hate that Cyberverse is over, but at least Kreo is ongoing. Some of the new Constructbots look neat, I think the smaller scale stuff there may be pretty cool. I can also pick up a few of those one-step guys if I need a small-scale or Activators like experience, though I don't plan on grabbing all of those.
Then there's the promise of a whole summer of releases. There are toys that will come out within the next 12-20 weeks that we probably haven't even heard of yet. Store exclusives, multi-packs, random repaints for no reason, Platinum series stuff, heck even the SDCC exclusives we don't know about - bottom line, it's gonna be one hell of a summer. Not to mention Botcon.
And more movie toy sales will result in more "Classics" style Generations stuff being easier to get over the next little stretch. Sure, it'll be a temporary jump, but if all retailers see is that "Transformers" are selling they won't care so much what's in the box. I have no worries about finding Rattrap/Crosscut/Arcee/etc. in store; they're scheduled so close to the movie for release that they will find a home on shelves.
Unless of course the movie bombs, but I think they're doing enough different that it won't. I don't think it's going to be a runaway success like 2007's movie, but I do think it'll do much better than Dark of the Moon.
tl;dr Yep, I'm excited.

I guess this is another reason to why I kind of have a great deal of inner hatred for this entire fandom. You all have a tendency to obsess over characters or specific altmodes, regardless of what series they are in or how genuinely good a figure is. You also have a tendency to desire MOAR regardless of the circumstances or what it is you're actually getting. Like I said, some of you guys just collect anything. Granted them dinobots look pretty good, I just don't want them because they're part of something that disgusts me deeply, and I have plenty of good toys already.
Seriously I don't care if all we get is a trickle. The few figures we've gotten during this time are frigging amazing. I'd rather be able to save money for my other hobbies anyway. At least that way things are planned and stores actually bother to order stuff that I want. After the hype is over there will be a disgusting amount of shelf warming for years to come.
Also no. It's literally impossible for this movie to bomb. I know how this works. It may have bombed if it didn't have dinobots in it, but it has dinobots in it. I know how you guys work and I know how kids work. It will be a hit. It is logical.
Posted by Va'al on May 1st, 2014 @ 12:15pm CDT
I enjoyed some of the BH figures, and that's where the dinobots that I will pick up will go, as a display.
I don't think the completists are in the majority either. I know I have my own bar of maximum 100 figures in the entirety of my collection at any given moment, and I know that a lot of other users on here are becoming more discerning when buying new figures, too.
I'm sorry if you feel slighted by other fans who enjoy different aspects of the franchise, but you can always see the positive, as someone else said above, of more sales reinforcing Hasbro's investment in other lines once the film has come and gone (even if it's back to the trickle)!

Yes. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I blame the stores for just being stupid and over ordering movie toys every single time.

The why did you bother asking? And more to the point, why did you bother asking in the place where the biggest transformer fans hang out? I dont think its fair to have you talking down to us this way in the one place created for us to share our passion and fandom. You are wasting everyone's time with this

Snarl has been rumored for awhile, though like Va'al I cannot remember where I saw that. Maybe Twitter somewhere? Either way, it's nothing but a rumor at the moment. One could throw any of the original Dinobot names out there and probably end up being right.

Sure, but what alt modes would they get? As far as dinos, we have the stegarausus and brachiosaur left (though I would not bet on a long neck alt mode)

All of the movie Dinobots we've seen so far definitely have toys in kre-o form, thanks to the movie setpiece based sets. One of the sets has Ratchet with Optimus in vehicle mode, and a green ankylosaur/stegosaur hybrid. That is likely Snarl.
One of the leaks that we got last November was a voyager Slog. Everyone assumed that was a misspelled Slug, but it's possible that Slog is the trademarkable replacement name for Sludge, and he's getting an apatosaur altmode.

I could see that happening. I mean, what genus haven't we seen in the line yet? To rephrase Sabrblade's list:
Tyrannosaurus: Grimlock, T-Wrecks, BW Megatron, Goryu, Classics Terrorsaur
Apatosaurus/Brontosaurus: Sludge, Rairyu
Stegosaurus: Snarl, Striker, Saberback, Doryu
Triceratops: Slag, Triceradon, Guildart, Kakuryu, Classics Knockdown
Pteranodon: Swoop, Terranotron, Terrorsaur, BWNeo Hydra, Yokuryu, Classics Swoop
Pteradactylus: BM Skydive
Ankylosaurus: Gairyu, Bazooka, Dinobots Slapper, Grimstone drone
Velociraptor: Dinobot, Rapticon, Mutant Razor Claw
Styracosaurus: Killer Punch, Grimstone
Pachycephalosaurus: BWNeo Hardhead, Dinotron, Grimstone drone
Dimetrodon: Sling, Dinobots Sludge, Grimstone drone
Archaeopteryx: Archadis, Airraptor
And for non-robot mode figures:
Giganotosaurus: Magmatron
Elasmosaurus: Magmatron
Quetzalcoatlus: Magmatron
Parasaurolophus: Grimstone drone
I know, how about the dolphin-like Ichtyosaurus?

Beast wars is my favorite TV series, but in terms of what it had, which was good comedy and good action with fresh characters, the comics have delivered just the same and are generally more mature. Also beast wars toys were not that great. The series did not make that much of a deep mark on me.

so why are you here?.. why bother even looking at movie related news? .. i don't understand.
also.. i'm excited for this line.. but not as excited as i've been for previous lines. and there certainly aren't any figures that jump out at me as being awesome like there have in previous movie lines.
also.. this thing (the movies) that disgusts you so much is also providing valuable cash flow for hasbro to produce the stuff that you want.. so maybe show just a little respect to the movies.. you don't have to like them, just acknowledge what they've done for the franchise.

I've really heard this argument too many times. Movie toy news is my concern because once the movie toys start rolling in it results in other announced toys being impossible to find or some waves even being cancelled. This just doesn't bother anyone other than me I guess. At this point I see it being those horrible constructbots ruining my days for the next three years. Also there's some obligatory BB and primes on the way as well. Good times ahead.TimothyR wrote:so why are you here?.. why bother even looking at movie related news? .. i don't understand.
Also a lot of you are on about all the good complex toys brought to the table by previous movies, when an awful lot of the stuff shown so far really doesn't look as good to me, and I did pick up some movie toys in the past because of how good they were. The Dinobots do look good but really not enough so for me to buy them, like with Bludgeon and Mindwipe.
An ugly butchering of a fan character that was originally made up by a guy who really doesn't like the movies in the first place. Maybe I'll pick it up because of how completely laughable it is.william-james88 wrote:Not even autobot Drift?

I also found AoE figures at my local Kmart today! I picked up Voyager Grimlock, and Deluxe Scorn, Slug, Strafe, and Crosshairs. (If anyone's interested in photos, I will gladly post; just don't want to clog the comments or waste my time if no one's interested.) Grimlock and Strafe rang up just fine, but the other three alerted the cashier to their violation of street date. However, the supervisor on duty didn't get it, so he just had the cashier ring the other three through as additional Strafes, since they appeared similar enough (even though Strafe is in a smaller "Ages 6+" packaging, rather than the slightly larger "Ages 8+" packaging on the other three). No complaints here!
Good luck on the hunt everyone!

Really most excited by Scorn, though. Slug's swords look cool, too.

Back when I started collecting, my HFTD Leader OP... It took me 1:30h transforming the damn thing. WITH instructions! What more, there were still a gap on the hood. Only one or two years later did ÉI figured that to remove the gap, you have to rotate the fists just so.
Now, I can transform the thing without instructions in about 15 minutes without instructions. And that include fiddling with the Buster gun.

you don't think i'm annoyed that the generations figures have been side tracked all this time leading up to the release of the movie line?.. i am. but i'm not going to go on a thread about reviews and sightings of movie toys and say something.
so.. any toy news is your concern because it pushes generations aside.. and you need to state that opinion every time news or a new thread is started about the movie toys?
maybe i'm alone on this, but i like each line of the toys.. they're new, they're something we haven't seen before, and sometimes it's refreshing to get something new. now, after a long time of these things sitting on the shelves forever, i'll be bored and i'll start wanting something new again.
also, you can't really complain about generations stuff being cancelled, i can't recall many generations figures that have been flat out cancelled or unreleased, but i sure as hell can think of a whole bunch of movie figures, that A LOT of people wanted, being cancelled.
from the sounds of it, the generations figures will be running concurrently with the movie figures.. how many of those will get a wide release and how plentiful they'll be is a mystery as of now. but i'm almost positive they'll be easy to acquire online.
if you're going to complain about anything, you should complain about the figures themselves rather than the affect it has on the generations toys.
with how huge grimlock has appeared in the trailers and how formidable he looks.. his leader toy falls REALLY short of that. it's not huge, hell it's not even as tall as previous leaders. and don't get me started on the t rex mold.. it's literally the worst t rex mode we've ever seen. anyone who looked at it and said "looks great, lets start making them" is an absolute moron. i mean, it looks like he just got done being tortured on a rack. i mean, if they can get the voyager looking relatively normal, how is it that the leader looks ridiculous? i REALLY hope that this thing is under $30 at retail, anything more is criminal. i mean, look at the height and mass compared to previous leader figures.. it's atrocious. they're basically saying goodbye to their established leader scale, downsizing and simplifying. personally, i think it's going to blow up in their faces, and with a $45 price tag, i think there's a good chance of that happening.
i do think there are some good aspects to most of the figures, even leader grimlock, most of his robot mode looks fairly nice, but those aspects are negated by horrific color choices. the chrome and goldish orange look terrible. and the other toys are worse, the dinobots specifically. it's sad that i'm going to have to paint this entire line myself.
lastly, you speak of the construct bots.. but what's worse is all of these one step changers, or these figures with push button transformations, or the stupid spinning grimlock.. ALL of that crap combined with the construct bots and the mashers are going to sit for so long and with that, i agree with you. it's just simply awful. and to stop making human alliance figures for this other crap has REALLY pissed me off. i mean, the human alliance figures have been some of the best figures we've gotten out of the movies period. but no, they want to produce all of this other crap that's going to sit forever. maybe they thought the human alliance figures weren't selling.. well, lets see, maybe it was because WAVE 1 WAS A REPAINT OF BUMBLEBEE AND SKIDS!!... and those sat for so long, they probably figured that they weren't selling. and then they had the gall to not find a way to release soundwave and mudflap. it's unbelievable.
anyways. i agree with you that the toy line isn't great.. but i disagree about generations and your stance on how your (collecting) life is ruined because of the movie toys and bringing that up here.

I asked one of the kind folks who work there and they said they won't be on the shelf until May 17. However since about two weeks ago this tag has been on the actual shelf, not on a peg.
