The pieces aren't the most detailed, but they are nice enough. Still not worth the amount of money this is likely to cost.

I just want the figure, I cannot afford the pricetag.

I do like the character selections overall, though, and I think they look ok. I don't have a chess set, so maybe this will be the one for me.

How sad do I find it that I'll never be abile to afford it at the price BBTS has it listed for.
That Grimlock alone would make it worthwhile.

Agreed. They should have the Autobot insignia on the white squares and the Decepticon insignia on the black squares.
I've had an idea for a BW chess set for years with:
White
King = Ark
Queen = Op. Op.
Bishops = Depthcharge and Tigerhawk
Knights = Silverbolt and Cheetor (TM or TM2)
Rooks = Rhinox and TM Rattrap
Pawns = Pre-humans
Black
King = Nemesis
Queen = TM2 Megatron
Bishops = Rampage and TM2 Dinobot
Knights = Inferno and Quickstrike
Rooks = Waspinator and TM Tarantulas
Pawns = Cyber-Raptors

That was what I was thinking too.

The ark - Prime and Nemesis Megatron is a fantastic idea I do like your beast wars idea for the pawns as well. They could have done this set better, I think next time they should talk with you.

That's funny since it's going to be around $250.
It looks as though the figures and the board were made seperately without any consideration for how they would look together. Horribly disappointing and I'm glad I didn't order one.

As previously stated, Bumblebee and Kickback are the pawns. Dumb, yes. Crap, I know.

Exactly what I was thinking. This set looks like it is made of plastic. I wouldn't pay $250 for something that looks like a cheap childrens toy. An expensive high quality chess set should look like an expensive high quality chess set. Something you display proudly. I would hide this thing in shame.

Rumble? It should have been Reflector!
I bet we could keep this up.
jgilkinson wrote:that isnt worth the price... i expected something bigger and made of something like pewter or perhaps glass
Um, they are pewter. However, I do agree that it's way too expensive.

if they are Pewter they are using the HOC / SFC molds. There is no real original work here, no new sculpts. I've seen some beautiful chess sets and I always thought a tf one would have been wonderful. This is not a chess set I would take out to wow another chess player. I agree with koloth when he says:

This is not what I consider high quality. It is expensive though, but for what? As I have said, I am pretty certaan they are having a reuse of the HOC figures.
I probably won't be getting this unless I see changes, or maybe there'll be one I like somewhere else. Glad I did not preorder it myself..I thought about it.
I have seen wonderful sets for 200 canadian, detailed peices, amazing board...

Not entirely. Shockwave and Kickback were never offered in the HOC or SCF collections. Even so, I'm not even saying that I disagree on any of the points that anyone has made about the lack of quality and the sheer disappointment this brings to a fan of both Transformers and chess, such as myself.
