Well heck yeah! Our biggest advance is that the limbs are all interchangable! You know, like they were back in 1985!
Ha!
Seriously, I'm excited for these.

Mostly has to do with the headmaster's head.
It's on a post attached with a screw. If your not careful with the mechanism that connects with the torso, the headmasters head will break off when you pull. stripping the threads in the neck and severing the head. The head tends to insert to far into the mechanism, and too much force is needed to get it out.
Also sounds like some sloppy residuals from sprew(spell?) separation.

Yikes. Good thing to know ahead of time though, so I can check for mold flash, extra gate, and maybe loosen up the assembly a bit.

Legendary internet reviewer Vangelus got his late last week and had to disassemble the entire torso to fix the spring. I think he had an issue that was above and beyond what's been mentioned here. Keep in mind he owns a pin press and you'll need that to remove the skirt pieces that along with screws hold the torso together. I hate to say it but I don't think these are QC issue but once again horrible flaws in the design that should've been worked out.

I can't wait for these to hit. If I could go back in time, I go to when I was a child and thought combiners were a scam then proceed to smack myself in my head.

You were not wrong. They are a complete scam to get kids to buy five toys instead of just one toy.

Fortunately, we are old and wise enough now that we don't fall for such schemes.

Waitaminit. The limbs actually snap in place using SLIDES/SLOTS instead of just being pegged in?! That makes for way more solid limbs attachement! Also, they finally came to their senses and made a VOYAGER torso!

Me, the ghestalt hater, may begin to finally love them again after the excellent G1 Scramble City line.

I knew that. But seeing them on video confirm it. JFC, after so many lame, LAME combiners with the torso the same size as the limbs, NOW we are finally getting the combiners we deserves without having to pay a gonzillion $ to a 3rd party company.

SUPERION looks good, but Menasor's upper body looks really off. He could be mis-transformed I cannot tell.

Sandstorm is awesome, better than Springer, IMHO. Skids sucks. I hate the not removable arm guns and his arms are not very good since his shoulders don't move. I wish I wouldn't have bought him, and I got him on sale with a gift card.

I agree for Sanndstorm. He's so marvelous! Springer only appeared once at my local TrU so I had to get mine from BBTS (on clearance, lucky me!) Having springer in hand, it confirm that Sandstorem is the best of the two. However, it's like saying that Chocolate pie is tastier than apple pie. Both are pie, both are marvelous, but I prefer one over the other.

As for Skids, he was not bad. Just, hmmmm'kay.

I agree Skids/Cross Cut is not the greatest.
I knew what I was getting into but, his shoulder situation really irked me anyway.
After the 3rd or 4th time through the transformation I realized you have to pull out on his shoulders which gives him better range of motion. The instructions don't really illustrate this step. Made it a little better.
Did everybody already know this?
Am I a ding dong for not getting this on the first go?
Re: Generations Combiner Wars Designers Desk Video (1620981)
Posted by SW's SilverHammer on November 10th, 2014 @ 8:31pm CST
The skids mold isn't bad at all so long as you know how to work it. The limited shoulders aren't bad so long as you pull the shoulders all the way out, and know how to properly articulate them. The missile spam, nor the shoulder cannons get in the way, as they all compress and fold away; it's just the car chunks that bang into things. The wrist guns do get a bit intrusive, but they aren't bad, they're geared to each other so they wont flop around no matter which way you have them. The Lower legs are another point of contention, as most have trouble balancing the toy despite the hard core Milne feet. The reason for that is the center balance. It not back heavy, it's actually top heavy, and the way to alleviate that is by bending the lower legs all the way forward, and bending the knees a click or two back (seeing as they have those faux plastic ratchets). It's not chicken legged all that much it forms a much more Transformers animated S curve/stance if that makes sense. The skids mold if handled well is a very fine figure, IMHO, mostly because it's very expressive, mostly because of the Hardcore Milne head on Skids. However I would Recommend Generations crosscut instead. Some of the plastic tolerance issues are solved with him, he's even more expressive because of his face plate, and the black, yellow, and the metallic candy apple red really pop, compared to the mostly red and silver details on bright as bright blue.

The playability might be there but they really look like crap in combiner mode. Especially Menasor. Being the proud owner of Uranus and Intimidator, I cant really see taking these figures seriously. Ill buy them to display in team modes.

Superion and Menasor look so good, can't wait to get them!

Totally disagree with Rated X, as usual. You need to adjust your scale bro, either it's magnificent or crap. If these are crap, what do you think about energon combiners or power core combiners?

I'm going to need all of these. I'm also going to require that Devastator is made up of six deluxe figures, simply for accuracy's sake, if they can figure out five deluxe figures and one voyager, that's cool too!

Seriously though, these look perfect! I don't regret getting the ROTF Superion or the FoC Bruticus, or any of the PCC's, but these are going to be brilliant additions!

However, I think the most important thing here is...

I love how one of the designers says with a deadpan face: "that's a really fun way to play with Transformers."

Silverbolt looks pretty good, I might get him. Air Raid, too. Not liking the other three individuals, especially the faceplates and Slingshot/Alpha Bravo being re-imagined as a chopper in an airplane-themed group, or Fireflight as Slingshot's old jet mode.

Do you think this will get a Takara release?

If, and these days its a big IF, these guys ever get a release over in the UK, I will pick them up as I don't have a Menasor in my display, but I will probably feel a little bit sad taking down my RotF/Fansproject Superion. :-(

I would expect to see many a set going up on Ebay once these guys are released, and the Universe Voyager Silverbolt too?

Talking of Universe Voyager Silverbolt, I like the mould and would really like to keep a version in my collection.
Can anyone recommend an alternate version I could look for? :D

The recepie is easy. Just use a pre=made and pre-cooked graham pie crust (or a normal one). Make a bowl of instant chocolate pudding. Pour the still liquid chocolate pudding inside the pie crust. Put the pie in the fridge to let the pudding rest. Once the pie is "solid", add a toping id you want. It could be ground nuts, chocolate flakes, wipped cream, anything. Voilà, you're done!

This is paradise in dessert form.
There's also the butterscotch variant and as many variants are there's kind of puddings. But the chocolate one is my favorite ever!

Image

I know this is kinda off topic, but man, chocolate pie is way too awesome to be ignored!
BTW, Superion is the chocolate pie. I'm so buying this on sight when the set come out!

1) Let's not ever go back to the grey mass of DOTM.
2) The rainbow contains all colors. All TF's are bound to have one of the colors within the rainbow.
3) Allmost all TF-lines are pretty much a colorfull bunch.

Wow, for once, you and I completely agree.

And they do look like crap, it's true. I have Intimidator and he's so many leagues ahead of Menasor, it's not funny. Hasbro could've at least tried and make it look G1, and at the very least, given us the correct assortment of figures to make the combined forms. A helicopter, with a different name in place of Slingshot? An SUV instead of Wildrider? Come on, it's like they're practically BEGGING us to spend our money elsewhere.

These are great for kids, no doubt and that's awesome, I want kids to get into Combiners because they're so neat, but these are also aimed at collectors and they know it and to pull this tells me they want to give us some credit/respect, but at the last minute say "Yeah, right. LOLOLOLOLOL"

And that bugs me. I'll buy their Superion, plus the 3rd party Slingshot because this is a far more affordable alternative to Uranus, but if I didn't have Intimidator, I'd probably sell off a big chunk of my collection to get him, much like I did to get UT's War Lord. (which I love with the fire of a 1,000 suns)

I know Hasbro's smarter than this, they CHOOSE to do this, for whatever reason... I'm still thinking they'll release all of the correct limbs and figures to make the combiners accurate, at some point, because they KNOW we'll buy them to make our collections sit right with us and we'll go that extra mile to make it happen. My guess is all of these extraneous figures that don't fit with the teams will become their own separate combiner with an odd name and you'll have to collect the entire line to make it happen. Watch, I'll bet it will happen.

Superion and Menasor look so good, can't wait to get them!

Totally disagree with Rated X, as usual. You need to adjust your scale bro, either it's magnificent or crap. If these are crap, what do you think about energon combiners or power core combiners?

I can honestly say the designers are anything BUT gods, but you're entitled to your opinion, much like Rated X is. You can disagree with him, just as I have you, but you needn't be telling him how to do things. His scale works well with him, your's with you, no need to be telling anyone to "adjust your scale bro" because that'll just cause a back and forth between the two of you and derail the thread and we're not going to have that happen, so from this point on, no more direct quotes to people in which they're called out. Ask them questions, be a part of the conversation, but don't put people on the spot, it's just asking for trouble.

However, I think the most important thing here is...

... Where in the HELL do you get chocolate pie? I've never even heard of chocolate pie before!

I'd like to see what Hasbro can do with their Devastator, I'd hope it would be accurate, but my MT Giant is pretty hard to beat. Even though I don't like TFC's Hercules, I have to say he's put together much better than Hasbro's Menasor and I hope Hasbro's Devastator doesn't pull the same level of crap as their Menasor has. Ugh.

As for chocolate pie...yum. Pudding or mousse mix and a pie crust, stick it in a fridge to gel and you're golden. *sighs* now I want pie.

I know, right? I just kind of wanted to give him a hug after that. It sounded like a man in denial about to cry.

Pretty sure this is the wrong forum for that.
And didn't we see that video already? I remember watching that in a news post several months ago.

Guys, sounds like you both need to see a doctor with your conditions?

If, and these days its a big IF, these guys ever get a release over in the UK, I will pick them up as I don't have a Menasor in my display, but I will probably feel a little bit sad taking down my RotF/Fansproject Superion. :-(

I would expect to see many a set going up on Ebay once these guys are released, and the Universe Voyager Silverbolt too?

Talking of Universe Voyager Silverbolt, I like the mould and would really like to keep a version in my collection.
Can anyone recommend an alternate version I could look for? :D

I don't need a doctor. I need a diaper. :P

Hey, the first wave is up for preorder at Kapow Toys. That's a UK shop right?
So, you're going to get them first!

Darkwind is an awesome version of the Silverbolt mold, If you can handle those cheeky G2 colors.

Ironically enough G1 Darkwing (blue) was G1 1988, G2 Skyfall (black) was 1995.

As someone who has not picked up any 3rd Party combiners, mainly because of cash restrictions, this Combiner Wars line appeals to me. I have to say that I really like the look of Superion, but Menasor is doing nothing for me. Individually the figures look great, but the combined mode looks weird. The chest just looks so odd with a car sitting right in the middle of it, and I'm not too keen on the head sculpt either (I can live with it though).

It looks like you open up Motormaster's cab to insert Blackjack, so I wonder if there's some sort of work-around where you can close the cab and have his chest more compact. It just looks too wide compared to his hips and legs for me.

Really looking forward to how Devastor would look, but I reckon they'd end up doing a retool of Menasor since it's a six figure piece.
