They make great little statues for G1 nostalgia.
And if you patrol Hallmark stores after Christmas, these things go for half price. I only have Grimlock, and that's how I bought him.
(I'm also not sure how Grimlock was "chibi." It seemed like a very faithful reproduction of the toy to me...just much smaller.)

I dont get it, the Grimlock one was just his G1 toy made smaller. If he looked chibi to you, then that just means the original G1 would look chibi to you too:
Transformers G1 1985 Grimlock Gallery
Without me telling you, would you know that was a pic of the G1 toy and not the ornament?
Soundwave is the same. And I dont know why we are better off buying the G1 one instead when this just serves as an ornament on a tree and doesnt transform. I wouldnt put G1 soundwave in my Christmas tree, but I would put this cute ornament instead.

Same reason the Lionel ornaments are almost always the first to go, even though most trees have an actual train encircling them. People get them because they represent a love of something, or a gift to someone who loved something. Most of the otnaments in my family's tree are either 1)things we love, or 2) of or from family. In this case, G1. You can't (easily) hang G1 Soundwave on a tree, and ehy would you? This is much easier.
Edit: but it occurs to me the distinction here might be in a difference to each person's particular traditions over the holiday

This is true. For example, I don't hang "franchise" ornaments on our tree anymore. I prefer more traditional decorations. But I still have a number of these kinds of ornaments in my personal collection.

If you enjoy this holiday ornament, have a look at the G1 Grimlock ornament from last year!

By the way:
No, it doesn't transform,
No, it doesn't have any articulation,
No, Laserbeak doesn't pop out in any way, although it looks like he is a separate piece, not sculpted into his chest/just painted on. Perhaps a gimmick that was never fully realised?

Tips from Seibertronians cdavid3 and Bounti76 on November 4th alerted us to the presence of these ornaments on store shelves, but another photo from autobot00 shows us perhaps the more interesting note in all this: the Optimus ornaments appears to have two different sets of potential packaging. Whereas the pictures shared by cdavid3 and Bounti76 show the box to have The Last Knight branding and a stock image of Optimus Prime from the new live-action film (much like the Hot Rod ornament's own packaging), autobot00's instead present a version of the box with the Generation 1-styled logo and a stock image of G1 Optimus Prime. The ornaments appear to be otherwise identical, meaning that there's no cause for concern if you just want the thing itself, but oddities like this are always worth noting.
Have you seen any of these ornaments on shelves at retail stores? Have you, perchance, seen both variants of Optimus - and if you have, did you notice any differences between the two aside from the logo and stock image? Share your thoughts, and as always keep watching Seibertron.com for any future Transformers news - big, small or just plain odd!

Oh well, good for those who want it, I guess.

Yeah, sorry man. I'm sure we'll get a G1-styled one eventually though, if the trend keeps up of having two Transformers ornaments a year, so... optimism! I guess.

Target has the same Hallmark ornament in a hanging card without a box and with the G1 Prime artwork.

Well that's interesting. I wonder if any others will show up.

What would be better than having this Starscream hanging from your tree and also having the Wal-Mart Exclusive G1 reissue sitting under it? Nice

Still, toy-accuracy seems a like an odd choice for original sculpts. I think a show-accurate robot mode Screamer hovering above would complement the reissue better than just a smaller non-transforming version of the toy. These ornaments look cool for what they are, this one's timing just makes it seem ironic is all.

I've been shipping quite a few things over seas recently. Let me know! I'll hook you up. Shouldn't be that much to ship. Box is smaller than a legend class, and very light.
