Fake chest and gargantuan amounts of truck just hanging off the back. Awful.
The actual robot design seems kinda interesting, though, from what I can tell. Kinda like a knight.
ScottyP wrote:Kinda looks like an upscaled Cyberverse toy. Never seen that before. Nope.
I think a Cyberverse would've incorporated the truck kibble better, actually.

And for a few minutes I was worried I might like it. I'm glad I don't. This movie line will once again allow me to save my money.
I know why they did it like this; to make it simpler for children to play with. But the whole thing seems off.

Does his shield/key thing have the blade of Voltron's blazing sword in between the yellow halves?
Regardless, the Bayniverse crushed my completism long, loooong ago. I assumed I'd be buying little beyond the Dinobots anyway.

Optimus Prime figures don't usually have that much kibble on them. At least not like that. It almost appears as if he has a cape in this movie. The robot and vehicle modes look nice. Hearing that he looks smaller bothers me. Definitely waiting for a more screen accurate paint job this time. It is nice to finally see Prime's new robot mode though.
The robot mode actually resembles PRID Ultra Magnus.

Chromey.
B'aww, that reminded me of the current IDW universe.
Anyway, back on topic: Nice truck mode, if they keep the chrome. Bot mode is a meh and a pass, but at least it's better than Ultimate OP.

Hmmm... it looks like they are very much funneling design cues from TF: Prime back into the movie figures. Neat-o!
The kibble is somewhat depressing. However, I'm still eager to get more pics of this guy, and I'm curious to see if that nice chrome carries over to the final product.

If they(as in Hasbro)think that I would shell out $40+ for this,then they're high!!!!
It doesn't even look passable enough to be deluxe class. This line and film shall be an easy skip for me.

While I'm not terribly impressed with the excessive amount of kibble hanging off the back, nor the fake chest, the robot mode is fairly cool, and I do like all the chromed plastic. The truck mode looks sweet, and a lot less blingtastic than the photos we've seen of it so far. Thank Primus they toned down the size of the exhaust pipes....they were starting to remind me of organ pipes in a church.

That first and foremost makes me really appreciate my MP10 and MP10B Primes. That's how an Optimus Prime should look.
Now the excess parts hanging off I dont care for and it does look mistransfored basing that off the arms looking as if they are not locked into places and some parts seem like they should be placed behind others. The bot mode gives me an evolution feel, as if they have brought more of the protoform into the main design this time around.
I think the on screen optimus will probably look amazing, the toy just like DOTM will probably be better in the Voyager scale class then leader. But time will tell. This could be just a first run to gauge reaction.

Truck mode looks dang good (but is it just me, or is it missing headlights?) but I'm praying he's mistransformed in robot mode. If there isn't something that can be done about that massive backpack, I'm not gonna be happy with this one.

then again i think it's pretty clearly mistransformed i mean from what i can tell the shoulders dont even line up with each other

Meh. That's all I can say. Meh. Don't like it, but I don't hate it. Especially wish that the sword's grip was shorter.
The "simplicity" thing that Hasbro's doing to raise the juvenile portion of the demography is really starting to urk me. If they want to do simple stuff so as to not confuse the crap out of kids, just make another line that is more simple/kid-friendly, and leave us collectors to the complex figures.
That said, wake me up when they reveal more awesome
Generations: Thrilling 30 toys.

Bishop said it best.
This is a terrible design. A horrible cheat. Children are not stupid and dumbing this down won't make it sell any better. You shrink the class down even more and charge more than before, plus it's horribly simplistic.
There aren't a lot of parents willing to spend $45.00 on a figure nowadays. Especially Optimus and Bumblebee. The local stores are overstocked with Transformers that just don't sell. The clearance aisles are littered with figures of all Classes that didn't sell. If parents aren't buying and kids can't, that leaves collectors.
And collectors aren't going to be too pleased with this guy. It would be one thing if it was like the Prime Weaponizers, where it's simplistic, but gimmicky and affordable. This guy is looking gimmickless, simplistic and not affordable.
The new Hasbro team might just be their downfall. They need to bring back the last team, the ones responsible for Generations Springer and so on.
Well, I'm glad I have the ROTF mold Optimus (the Amazon Jetwing, to be exact), because that's the definitive movieverse Optimus. This is a joke in plastic.
...wait and see. Hasbro will make a Platinum Edition that's $100.00+ and has ROTF/Masterpiece level detail and complexity. That'll make me really mad. Milking it for all it's worth. That's Bandai level cheating to me.

The toy is mistransformed. You can tell because the shoulders are out of place. Hasbro never transforms their own stuff right lol! I won't be getting this. However, if this is an indication of the style the new movie is going for design wise I kinda like it. A little more streamlined and more prime like. A step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned

What I don't understand is, why, if they are going to display these things, can they not find someone, anyone, who is competent enough to know how to correctly transform these things. Clearly his arms are not right.
That said, the best toy of Prime to come from a Bay movie was Revenge of the Fallen Leader Class Prime with the pop out swords.
Look at this, from it's display picture, it looks kinda small for a Leader or is it just that there's nothing close to it to compare.

I'll be honest. At first I thought it was a deluxe fig until I read the title more carefully.
While it's unfair to judge the accuracy of this toy without first seeing pics of the CGI model, it looks like the whole chest is made of faux kibble.
I'd be okay with the back kibble if its accurate to the CGI model as a sort of cape, but somehow I doubt it.
Either way, I still prefer the original movie design as well as the ROTF leader class toy.
Oh well, that just means more money saved for the MP and Thrilling 30 lines.

I dont need to see proper transformation to judge figure if its buy or pass its pass how he will look in film looks good kinda evil face he has with eyes they are on toy, toy look better in bot mode if trailer connection came off if possible still pass either way.
Like to see cgi pictures for accuate film details how bots look in toys could never get in all details in as hasbro stated in interview but big step up from dark of moon figures with out that what hasbro call weapons that line?

Looking at your post, then back to the images, I see where you're coming from. Completely agree, this would look way better as Rodimus Prime than Optimus Prime.
Hear that, customizers and kitbashers? Make this happen.

Every year I add fewer and fewer Primes to my collection and this year will be no exception. I may get two, at most, from this new movie line and you can bet that their bot modes will never see the light of day. Those are just hideous robot modes. Also, for those of you getting all jazzed over the return of the chrome... don't hold your breath. I'm not convinced AT ALL that Hasbro will actually keep the chrome for the regular release figures. I'd lay money that what you are seeing here is a "one off", a P.R. gimmick, a little bling to get us salivating and then they'll pull the bait & switch on us. No way in hell is Hasbro going to go the extra mile and give us something this flashy so don't bother getting your hopes up.

The only thing I like is it looks a little more streamline and sci-fi. That means I
might like the cgi model.
There would be a chance I'd like the toy if it didn't cheat form. I am sick of cheat formers. The head boffins need to understand that these things transforming is the key selling point. Once a transformer doesn't even transform and becomes one of those 'digi morphing digimon' it's lost it's whole appeal. Tfs don't pretend to go from one thing to another, a TF toy doesn't represent a magical 'morph' from one thing to another. It 100% does, practically PHYSICALLY turns from one thing to another via engineering. (lazy ideas like beast machines maximals 'shape shifting' don't count. And what the f**k was that animorphs crap? Sure let's bring toys like that back)
Whoever at hasbro thinks this is a good idea-you are an idiot. You want profits, make a good product worth buying. Stop cheaping out you big mental lunatics. I mean that sincerely.
Call me crazy, but MP Sideswipe isn't all that hard to transform, right? Sure he's a tad fragile and you may not want to hand him to an 8 year old, but if there is an 8 year old out there who can't transform him, finds him too complex, I have to wonder why it's parents haven't taught it basic intelligence. If an MP figure can be simple but 100% effective, why can't this?
They are approaching these toys from the wrong angle. I really wish somebody would tell them that.

what did i say its just going to be more of the same, i actually miss the old movie prime he at least had optimus elements to him. And is it such a big surprise that hes smaller than previous leader class figures? Guarantee hes made out of cheap plastic too. Even the chrome looks cheap, if your not going to do it right dont do it at all. Easy pass & i have a feeling my TF4 collection is either going to be the smallest in my collection or no existent. And good call on the shield looking like a mass relay from mass effect, i said the same thing when i saw it.

I would like to remind everyone that Hasbro told us this was coming. Everything's being dumbed down for the kiddies. This thing is tooled specifically for young kids who want a big TF. We might get the odd cool one here and there but this is what we have to look forward to save for Generations and MPs.
Speaking of which... Hey Boss Monkey, do you know if they will be showing any new Generations ish at the show? I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally interested in the new Nightbeat and I really hope it's a new mold and not the IDW Goldfire mold.

That's what I'm thinking too. Things like the chest, the open slots above the elbows and knees where they swivel, the hollow smokestacks, the ton of back kibble, and the giant screw in the elbow are the kind of things you see on smaller figures.
