Yeah, I'd much rather get shot in the foot then in the head.
Like the old mafia saying goes: "Three to the head, you know their dead."

It seems that this is the only robot with a humanoid face - I could imagine that it took a while to convince Bay to compromise the changing of the generic, manga-spawn look. I wish they took this approach to the other bots - especially starscream who looks like a gorilla-jackolantern with chicken legs.
Actually, only the Decepticons seem to have bug-like faces. The Autobots seem to have semi-normal faces, though smooth like in the cartoons and comics.

You have no idea how happy I am that they scraped his old "standard mode" that looked like a lawn gnome with third-degree burns. For those of you who think the new head doesn't look different enough, lest we forget THIS:
At least now his standard head looks menacing, and his battle mode even more so. I wish the toys had his battle head, but after looking at the pics of the prototypes, it's looks like the kept the new standard one, probably because the toys were already in production when they made the change, which would explain why the new standard head looks almost exaclty like the old battle head... does that make sense?
Could it be? Our bitching actually caused the bigwigs to make a pretty drastic last-minute change, for the better?

Actually, I think the prototypes we've seen may have had the second head we saw based on the way they it seems to be hidden inside rather than fill the 'helmet'.
Something else that's just occurred to me is we've only seen the various incarnations of his face from straight ahead or at a slight tilt. We have no idea how long it might be from front-to-back and if the toy is any indication, it might be elongate.

Another problem that I have is the functionality of the helmet. In Meg's normal mode, he has thick armor on the side of his head and none on the top. Why none on the top?
And in battlemode, he has thin jointed armor along his temples and crown. And in some places there are even gaps. Why would he have thin armor or gaps in these places for battlemode? It doesn't make sense from a fighting perspective. A full armored head is more secure.
--- The producers and directors keep telling us that the Movie Transformers are what robot aliens would look like. But I disagree. From an evolutionary and functionality perspective Megatron's head doesn't make sense.

EDIT: Those lines across his eyes....I wonder if they might act as eyelids to help emote? I've noticed many of the designs have this.

Hmmm... perhaps if they did call him Galvatron and made him purple I would like him better.

I know I almost missed this news, when I got home from work the story was already tucked away under all the other news items, even though the new Megs head story had only been a few hours old...
Love the new battle-mode head, too bad it's not the one on the toy

Dark Cyclone wrote:Well, I can at least see some G1 influence in the normal mode, which is a vast improvement. Problem is, battle mode makes him not look like Megatron anymore...
I must've missed the G1 somewhere in here.......all I see is a Bayformer that screams for help.

nope, drew the picture in illustrator, no tracing, but drew the picture over the top of the original megtron concept for proportions

dragons wrote:is it just me or do these new faces look somewhat made by a fan.?
no, i doubt theres any fan with that degree of modeling skill who has the spare time to be able to make things like that for fun, some SERIOUS work went into those models.
the only reason they look fan done to you is because they are untextured, they are the equivalent of matt grey plastic.
this image might help you visualise it better:
