Fellow Seibertronians, thanks to Transformers Viet Nam we get our first in hand look at MP-30 Ratchet. Ratchet is a recolor of MP-27 Ironhide, and interestingly, his signature red crosses are not in fact tampographed onto his shoulders, instead, he includes a selection of different sticker designs to choose from, which can then be applied to his shoulders, so as to suit your individual preferences.

The images have been mirrored for you to check out, and, as always, let us know what you think in the comments below.

the crosses are not tampographed because the Red Cross would sue

Remember backin 1987-88. James Bond Living Daylights got into a similar mess with the "Red Cross"

Let's make sure we're clear though,

The reason the red cross don't let people use the symbol isn't because they want to monetize it. It's an internationally recognised symbol for medical help. What they try to do by issuing C&D's is to stop it being used fictionally, and not pervert or alter the meaning of the symbol in any way.

It's so as not to confuse people looking for genuine aid. They want it to remain an image where people can look at it and think 'I can get help here' which is something I can get behind.

Essentially it's the same thing as what happened with exhaust.

The original Diaclone broke the rules, so in order for everything that comes after to be 100% accurate, it also has to break to the rules. If we want to lay blame for it at anybody, lay it on the lack of foresight and respect for intellectual property rights the takara designers had when working on the diaclone line in the early 80's.

What Takara have done here is pre-empt the same issue occurring as it did with Exhaust (misusing a registered trademark, and in contravention of a law which is set out to prevent a moral issue from occuring) and making the product hard to come by for consumers and causing a ton of hassle in time and money for downline dedicated stockists.

They're even putting all the tools you need in the box to let you break the rules yourself if you want to.

Sound logic Memphis.

Then by that logic, give us a Mirage and a Jazz with sticker sheets. :-P

I don't care so much about the crosses as mush as the lack of a red helmet. I'd much prefer the red to the white. And I know, toon version not conic but still. The red always looked better.

Yeah, not that I want to start this argument, but the Red Cross has become More about the money than the help.

It's not about the Red Cross here in America. It's about the symbol itself. You're dealing with a toy that will be sold in the Asian and Pacific markets, in countries that have a very real and recent history of disaster and war. Globally, the red Cross is a symbol of emergency help and life saving aid. It's a symbol recognized as exempt from being fired upon during war by international law. While churches themselves are often targets, the medical corps has been many people around the world's only safe place or escape from active lethal danger. Everywhere else on Earth, that symbol means something more than it does here. And they don't want it slapped on a toy with guns. And Takara respected that enough to just make it a sticker set so people had to option.

I don't know people are up with their history, but...

In real life, has the Red Cross symbol ever been used in association with regular medical facilities for the common folk, like hospitals and ambulances? I know we've seen it plenty on toys, but they may not necessarily be based on real life, so toy makers grabbed the most recognised as a standard and called it a day. That would actually lead to a false representation of the organisation, which is normally active with providing health care in crisis areas, instead being portrayed as run-of-the-mill.

The Red Cross trademarking the logo and enforcing it may have stemmed from wanting to prevent this misconception. And guys, MP Ratchet is hardly the first to suffer it: G1 Ratchet had the issue since 2000 in the comics and several ambulance toys (like BotCon 2005 Ratchet) had the symbol altered. Also, trademarking back in the 80's was a bit different, more lenient than it is now in the image and vehicle model department.

Amiami is slated mid April 2016 (begining of the second quarter). Unless updated, it seems on schedule though coming nearly one after the other after Laserwave.........my aching wallet.

I thought the schedule has always been Hot Rodimus/Ultra Magnus re-issue last week of February, Shockwave last week of March, Ratchet last week of April? And yeah I know things change, but all three of those times stick out in my head..like I read it places a lot..or something..

Makes me wonder if they'd try to get the re-issue of Wheeljack out with Ratchet, which would be coooooool for the peeps that didn't get him yet.

With the way they like to do redecos of MP's, I wonder if somewhere down the line they'll do him with his slightly different Marvel deco. (Or even his way f'n different early, probably a mistake, Marvel deco with the blue chest and red legs.)

White hip panels blend with white thighs better than Ironhide's red with gray thighs. I think at least, and the majority of the figure is white too which helps the eyes

It's the G1 in all of us, cause that's where the repaints started (well Diaclone..but more G1). I also find it funny that I get annoyed with repaints/retools in other lines sometimes but don't question it on MP. I think the Bayverse stuff may have angered me, with first release then premiums, then 80 Bumblebees.

I got Ironhide today after much much thinking and near ordering and backing off-and I was right, the mold irritates me :( Just looks odd.

The super cartoony blue windows on Ratchet just add to me simply not caring about these 2. I mean, Ironhide is here now, but had I never ordered him I wouldn't be missing anything :(

I'm extremely excited for this. I just got my soon in stock pre-order notice from BBTS. I also bought Ironhide on release. I understand its the basically the same mold but its just too major of a character to not want it for completion of a G1 Masterpiece collection. I think the white makes a pretty big visual difference on the mold and the character doesn't look like "White Ironhide".

The mp line has been sooo good this year I gladly will pay to keep Takara churning new MPs out. I mean we've had like 4 sweet releases in just the first 4 months of 2016.

They've been making insane progress on the MP characters but i cant wait till Jazz, Galvatron and maybe a Beast Wars Scorponok or Tarantulas get a shot at getting a MP-##.

My Ratchet has just arrived, I'm opening it now.

First impressions of the alt mode and it's a good even white all over, maybe some panels aren't quite aligned properly but that is sorted easily. A couple of minor defects in the plastic surface, typical sort of stuff. Collector coin is nice but not thrilling.

No jet pack with Ratchet, shame as it looks really nice on Ironhide but I suppose we get a set of tools to make up for it.

During first transformation I got quite a bit of white paint flakes chip off, easily seen on my black trousers.

No issues, no floppy joints.

He looks good.

For some reason the figure looks a lot better than Ironhide to me. Only thing, those windows as pointed out in the vid let you see too clearly into the "guts".

I don't think it even needs the red +'s on the shoulders, it looks fine as is.

I'd still like to see it done in Marvel colors.
