glorious, i have inferno who I couldn't resist getting together with red alert. The engineering is fantastic as are the different front fascias for the anime vs toy look. If there's anyone who hasn't got a version of this mould.. it's definitely one of the best figures to date.

And though I'm trying to avoid repaints cos well i'm broke, I will be getting grapple as he's one of the figures I always wanted to most as a kid, still have my g1 and an encore. Admittedly wasn't a fan of the generations figure...

Wow, I'm impressed by how different the transformation is compared to Inferno, despite the vehicle modes being so similar :APPLAUSE:

From fellow Seibertronian Cyberpath, we have a double-feature today focusing on the latest non Beast Wars Masterpiece figure from Takara Tomy Transformers: MP-35 Grapple! We've seen some in-hand images already, but toy blogger Alfes2010 has a batch more, and The Chosen Prime have also uploaded a video review of this Inferno retool with new paint. Check it all out mirrored and embedded below for your viewing convenience.

With Takara Tomy's Transformers Masterpiece MP-35 Grapple, instead, Hasbro Asia will be releasing a collectable diecast minifigure of Ultra Magnus, who also already appeared in the MP toyline. You can check out below the image courtesy of site sponsor Robot Kingdom!

I gind these very expensive. I would only get either of them if I could get them for a good price. Like less than $100 shipped.

And he is still available for standard retail prices, you can get him at nippon yassan: https://www.nippon-yasan.com/figures/18 ... apple.html

I feel the negativity feedback of the lack of details from Inferno may be holding you back. But don't deprive yourself of the joy of owning him. Remember the negativity on MP-IH? Also, Grapple does have a tad more details than Inferno. ;)^

Its not so much negativity, but the fact that Inferno and Grapple are not worth paying over 100 bucks for.

Its the price that is holding me back. I paid $60 USD for Ironhide. If someone was selling MP Inferno or Grapple for that price, I would buy it. I would be uch more forgiving of the lack of detail and plain-ness if they were $60.

Based on your previous statement I thought it was the lack of molding details. Anyways, being pragmatic, costs also factors in big time. Trouble is, great molds appreciate too fast in the secondary market and are so gone ,while misses like the Tracks mold drops like a hot potato. (And Mitsubishi must be charging an arm and a leg for the license (and yet I find nary an actual Mitsubishi emblem on Inferno 8-} )

I hear you too IHD. But on your side of the fence, I don't think it's the cost issues that bothers you but more on the "zing" of the figure. I'm also a bit like you with regards to Beastwars (though I did get the recent MP Munky and haven't regretted the decision). Though you have to admit, when it came to the IH mold, it did impressed you eventually.

The lack of detail is just a very easy visual factor t point out when showing the contrast behind the price and what you are getting for it. Ironhide was 7000 yen (while inferno is 11000) and while both dont have the most of detail, I am more forgiving of ironhide especially with the ton of accessories. Of all the MPs so far, I would say Ironhide has the best value.

Now for the secondary market, things are changing. Takara and Hasbro have started reissuing plenty. MP 10 and Soundwave are good examples, but there is also wheeljack and magnus. If these sell out before I have a chance of getting them for a decent price, then I can always wait for a rerelease. Development cost is high so Takara is bound to rerelease them and i can wait. Plus as I wait, you will have people liquidating their collections and I really dont mind getting a second hand MP toy, especially when most collectors just pose them like statues.

So I have plenty of options in the long run and I am waiting this guy out.

I only got Inferno after reading positive review after positive review. I figured that many people couldn't be wrong. What I've come to realize, is that most of those (most, not all) reviews come from people who are not very big fans of the 3rd party market. Ignoring the superior 3rd party offerings, Inferno is amazing. Its all perspective.

With Grapple, I preordered when they first became available, just in case, and decided to stick with it. I've heard MMC's Grapple didn't come out as well as Inferno, so there we are.

That and Grapple has those disc thingies on his shoulders and the extra grooves on his shins.

I like both Grapple and Inferno and have ordered Artfire too. I probably won't be ordering Hauler though. The figures are incredible. The only thing that is really disappointing to me is the lack of back lights on the vehicles and lack of rear view mirrors. More chrome would have been cool too.

As for the chrome, Don't be too excited about that because in my MP IH case, the chrome has corroded in such a short time (mine is the first JP release and handled minimally at the front bumper with latex gloves)

As for the "details", you can use this:

or wait for the official "Grapple" decal by Ocean decals which is an officially licensed Hasbro product.

Hauler is not confirmed but can we have even the slightest doubt they will miss the opportunity for the repaint?

I am actually fine with the details. But alt modes are the most important for me. Starting with Ironhide they stopped making rear view mirrors and now even back lights. That's like leaving the vehicle incomplete.

I didn't know Hasbro would make official decals for Grapple??? How is that?

Well, Takara, Hasbro, Fun Pub, e-HOBBY, and all others never did a Hauler redeco of the Universe Inferno/Reveal the Shield Solar Storm Grappel mold.

Officially sanctioned by Hb Asia Decals. Got the info it straight from Hb Australia.
They are transfer decal types. kinda a pain in the azz to aply so it's up to you how much bling you want to add.

Image

Though I am kinda stumped where this red square goes to. Maybe the ladder?

Inferno's decal set more or less approximates the same details as Grapple so you can add them or wait for the actual Grapple set.

I won't be getting my MP Grapple and the little UM until Hero Hobby Tiny Magnus is in stock. So these images will have to be my entertainments for now. In regard to the mini UM, I'm glad they made him bigger than Prime just like the real toy. On the downside, it's a poor choice the way they oriented his lower hand and the way he held the gun. Looks so awkward.

Getting frustrated here ... what's the trick to getting the crane to sit flush?

From what I've seen (there's very few pictures of his back) the flap on his head/neck should fit over the fold of the crane yeah?

I can't get the crane to sit forward enough in the chest. grrrrrr

-edit-

Girlfriend figured it out. I'd missed the step in folding the hook down (I folded the hook, but not the arm it was attached too).

Crane magic isn't as much fun as ladder magic.

Surprise surprise!

I was expecting my Kotobukiya Marie Rose figure and Grapple showed up...FIRST ( I paid for him last! 8-}

My impressions (a very biased source).

Subtle differences makes Grapple NOT a lazy retool

Height. Both are basically almost as tall as each other but Grapple's groin/hip/whatchamacallit is slightly lower making/giving him the appearance of slightly shorter than Inferno.

The crane transform voodoo as Burn mentioned is a bit harder to do than the ladder. Locking the back panels takes getting used too (the one that makes up what we humans call the shoulder blades) The peg keeps on popping off.

The extra panels of the crane that don't fold into his back folds up to his back calves.

Obvious ones are the extra panels on his shoulders and shins.

Mine is the JP version so no extra freebies.

Get? Or not? Tough call unless you are into other stuff I recommend him. Just watch out for corroding chrome 1 year from now. :(

It's more the diagrams, they can be hard to read with my eyes at times.

Plus the end of the crane does have two pivot points very close together and the hook pivot was incredibly tight.
Re: In-Hand Images of Transformers Masterpiece MP-35 Grapple (1867152)
Posted by fenrir72 on March 16th, 2017 @ 6:54pm CDT
The hardness of folding Grapple's extended part is probably due to the hefty layers of paint the put it. When I was running my finger along its length, I'm hard pressed to tell whether it is just glossy plastic or gloss paint.

So wen you first fold in his hook connector, I was like sweating because of the hardness of the joint.I looked at the manual and it folds but I was afraid of damaging the part.

Also, I wonder why no complaints on his having a butt flap this time? UM had one and it was accurate to his animation model sheets. Grapple? Not so sure.

On the matter of his face, I prefer the all orange over the mixed black with yellow ears. A good nod to the ever shifting way he was portrayed in the show.

I wonder if Takara will pull off a Road Hauler and a "toy" version Inferno with all the added sculpting?

It was indeed hard. Kind'a stiff to fold down that I was afraid it was going to break ;) Good thing it came to the point that I softened it up a few sweaty seconds later and folded it into his back torso.

Really really now! Putting both figures, Red and Orange side by side, you'll get buyers remorse in reversed!

He wasn't my fave figure. It was Inferno who gets the top spot! Fire engines are just more exciting over some orange colored truck with and extendable hook connected to a long extended rod. Though that episode where we was hoodwinked by his fellow engineers (psychotic ones specifically) kind of made me feel sorry for his naivete.

But again, Takara hit the ballpark with this mold again since, well Grimlock (except the Tracks/Rodimus mold)

We get like what back then during our childhood, are near accurate representations of our G1 characters. Just comparing the actual product from archived model sheets of Grapple, it's so uncanny.

Whyizit that TFA, and its toys are near carbon copies and I don't recall hearing any complaints (except for the design style the show took among oppositors). Yet in MP it is mixed if not there are some loud oppositors.

Let's take, WJ for instance. The original inspiration of the Lancia was full of product endorsements. It's Diaclone incarnation was in fact kinda neutered with the decals. When he made the transition to MP, some criticism was that he didn't look like his anime counterpart (the product endorsement apps are in fact very neutered too) but he still retained those car details to a certain point. So from what I understand, he doesn't look at all kike his anime.

Then Takara pulls off a stunt of releasing anime Alert. Some complain it's a cash grab But his anime incarnation is indeed a dressed down version of the toy aka lack of details from the original.

Weird thing again or is it just a marketing strat by Takara to add details to the mold by increments? Grapple has more paneling and molding details but also switches some of the chrome apps off from the original Inferno mold.

Not a lazy retool, his hip wheel slots are quite different from Inferno's. For the latter, your swing them up to lock them on a peg. In Grapple's case, they both lock after you swing them downwards as the pegs are located in a different area.

Also, the crane folding gimmick also stands on its own. Following similar principles but also different from the ladder of Inferno. Just take a look at what happens back there (check his back and compare to Inferno).

He even has a back flap of sort but it swings/rotates horizontally and not vertically. Also, be veeeeeery careful transforming his extensions. What with the very thick paint apps of orange all over, bending those components was a bit stressful that it made me break out in sweat 'cause it scare me that I might break it.

Inferno didn't scare me that much. Owe that to I can't all read the manual.

Grapple is indeed another "beauty" and worth the purchase! :x

Now all we need to do is wait post April after megs and the rest of the cons and Convoy are released for the final version of the mold Artfire is released!

Wow.. just wow. Got Grapple today. I don't know how the Takara designers pull it off. They've thought about everything. Both Inferno and Grapple are perfect. The way the boom splits and folds into extra leg parts and his torso...

And whoever said it almost feels like transforming a different toy was right. Lucky that the cartoon designers didn't have a photo of G1 Grapple's back to work from, and mistook the crane for bits of the legs, cause now 30 years later we have a complex figure with a clear back. I can see why none of the 3P interpretations erased the crane, it feels like something only a company with years of experience can pull off; incredibly complex. Lots of moving parts.

MP-35 must be one of, if not the, most customisable Masterpiece so far. Both modes are adjustable. This also has to be the most extensive retool yet. They addressed every small difference from the model sheet between the two. When will Red Alert?

And take a look at Grapple's knee part. The black part of his legs.Though sharing the same design with Inferno, it is slightly shorter. Really! Takara nearly pulled all the stops on this retool.
