Australia Toyfair was preceded by a small event between two Hasbro employees and some senior members of Ozformers. Here are all the images from that small hands on event, which give us the best look yet at some of these upcoming figures in hand. Griffin, the site owner, added comments which can be read in his post for those interested.

The figures found in the pictures below are:

G2 Bruticus
Crashbash
Astrotrain
Ravage
Galvatron

Enjoy!

I want to like that Astrotrain, but it's kinda meh. The train mode is too far away from a real train, (so is the shuttle) for the character. This isn't a bad thing in of itself, but it just isn't convincing me to upgrade from the Classics Astrotrain which also had compromised alt modes.

I do like Galvatron on the other hand. He would be a nice upgrade from that crappy Universe version

That's a freaky image of astrotrain with three heads

Also looks like ravage is rideable in beast mode as well as jet mode is just ravage facing the other way...

Interesting. I didn't know Spike became the head in some points.

Yup, the Hasbro G1 toy headmaster head was Spike. Thats pretty crazy when you think about it, a human becoming a headmaster.

I think in both cases its simply going from a deluxe to a voyager. Thats mainly why I am getting this astrotrain, I feel a voyager makes more sense for my collection. Same with Galvatron. What is weird though is that the classics trio of Scourge, Cyclonus and Galvatron were all deluxes and scaled well together. Now we have a voyager cyclonus and galvatron but Scourge is a deluxe. Kind of odd, no? And is it just me or does it look like Galvatron has hemorrhoids in canon mode?

I made my peace with scale issues long ago. It's hard enough to get whole lineups of characters in a team, let alone all in the same size.

Easy pass on all of these. Making Astrotrain a headmaster is just bad. I never liked headmasters anyway.

Me, I still don't get why the are making so many of the former non-headmaster's into headmasters. I love the Galvatron, but does he really need to be a headmaster?

I love this post so much right now.

As to people complaining about the titan master gimmick, is it that much of a burden? Just treat it as another step in the transformation process, simple.

Personally I'm okay with these changes, they are really good looking toys and the titanmaster gimmick doesn't bother me.

They're making all these 1986 characters to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1986 movie. That they're all Headmasters now is due to that being the line-wide gimmick of Titans Return.

I am just glad that a new Astrotrain is released while I am collecting. (Missed out on the first one). :-$
It does not bother me at all that they are headmasters. I will not be using non-headmaster characters as headmasters, just as classics.
So far Titans Return :APPLAUSE:

I agree about Astrotrain. This isn't what I had in mind to go alongside Springer, Blitzwing and Sandstorm. It's a new take on the character, but doesn't fill the Voyage Class "Generations" gap for me. I was really hoping for a significant remold from Sentinel Prime along the lines of Springer and Sandstorm.

Seems that this sketch from the Stormbringer trade paperback was the inspiration for the Sentinel/Astrotrain mold:

It balances out for all the toys they released with their gimmicks neutered throughout the years. Like with Gen Thunderwing, Nightbeat and Armada Starscream which didnt retain their original G1 gimicks. Ayways, this is generations, the moto was always about doing something new with G1 characters. Where was the uproar when Powerglide was turned into a targetmaster? If we want a perfect reinterpretation of G1 there is only Masterpiece.

And if anyone wants a nice non headmaster Galvatron for their classics collection, there is still Energon Galvatron who is still Boss!

Regarding Powerglide, his "Targetmaster" alt mode doesn't interfere with either a good looking robot mode and a nice looking alternate mode, both of which are true to G1 Powerglide. Well, aside from his butt flap, of course. :D Other than that, he's a near perfect homage to me. I wouldn't mind the feature on Galvatron and Blaster, if the Transformer could transform without disconnecting the head.

It'd be great to have some fiction to explain why everyone decided to become a Headmaster Titan Master. Something as simple as the Decoy pamplet, the Beast Wars mini-comic that came with the Megatron/Optimus Primal 2 pack, etc ... just want something fictional to tell me the story about why they're all Titanmasters.

That's a weird thing though, by this point with combiner wars we knew what was going on in the fiction as they had dropped hints as to how combiner tech was getting introduced into idw but so far, nothing on titans returns, not even the bios are giving anything away other than that certain heads have special powers. I mean are idw doing a tie in? Do we have to wait till machina are doing a titans returns cartoon to learn the story?

(I know this isnt super related to what you asked) From what I gathered of the early info on Titans Return, I liked how there would finally be a distinction between what we call the little head components and what we call the full robot. In G1, both the small head robot was a headmaster and the main complete robot was a headmaster. I thought the idea behind this line was that the complete robot was still a headmaster but the small head component was a titan master. And that seems to be the general idea still since we still reffer to this upcoming Chromedome as a Headmaster (in fact we are all saying how its not cool to be turning everyone into a headmaster) while the small head component is now a titan master. So I think thats smart on hasro to finally clear something up and distinguish the head as a different name than the overall robot.

And I am pretty sure it was confirmed in an interview (dont remember which one but I think we published it on the site) that all these characters becoming headmasters will not be an element in the fiction.

And if yo are just referring to something to help explain the fiction of the toy itself, we actually have you covered with the bios. Here is the one for Scourge:

The DECEPTICONS unite with TITAN MASTER parnters to power up for battle! FRACAS can steal the power of other bots, letting SCOURGE harness whatever ability suits his sinister plans.

So they are more like powermasters in a way, just a power up.

Transector is only the headless body. The body with the head on was called a headmaster and so was just the head on its own. Now they actually have proper names for one or the other.

And with Titans Return, there is no headless body. Its either the alt mode with the titan master piloting it or the complete robot mode with head, which is the headmaster.

That was just Japan (unless it's turned up in IDW, I don't follow that stuff). In America the small "robot" was actually a fleshling, most of them from the planet Nebulos but also a few Earth humans like Spike for Fort Max and in the cartoon Daniel for Arcee.

I don't think American fiction ever differentiated terms between the head and the body, they were just collectively Headmasters.

I'm not sure if the UK fiction did anything extra or differently with the concept in that regard.

Oddly enough, I'm right there with you. I normally prefer a more cybertronian design, but this just isn't doing it for me.

I like the shuttle and bot mode, but the space choo choo looks a little off. In the case of Astrotrain, I also would have liked if he matched the previous Gen triple changers we got a bit more.

I do overall really like the cybertronian design of the TR line.

Well the previous ones didnt really match eachother. Doubledealer is more of a departure to this original self than Astrotrain is. But I get it, you simply mean more earth like, right?
Ha, and people were telling me Gen Springer was an example of cybertronian design.

The term for the headless bodies from the Japanese G1 continuity is Transtectors, not Transectors.

Oh, that's right. I knew about the nebulons being the heads in the us, but I wasn't sure if the word 'transtector' was ever used for anything or not. I like the idea of the titan master/headmaster being the character and the larger body being a sort of upgrade better than the two-people-in-one-body concept though, so I'll probably ignore the little guys being separate characters anyway.

I just meant match more aesthetically overall not necessarily in one more or another. I find the TR to be very angular with sharp corners and angles, where the previous gen line was a little more fluidly round (if that makes any sense what so ever).

I'd call gen Springer totally earth design, even if it is just made up vehicles. Same thing with Blitz. Earth inspired designs may be a better way to put it.

Either way I don't thing TR Astrotrain could stand next to gen Blitzwing and Springer and not stand out like a sore thumb.

Actually this came up in another thread. The heads are called "Titan Masters"; are just the bodies or the combined robot officially called something else by Hasbro? I've been searching around all day and I cannot find anything, but I swear I remember reading the bodies were officially designated with a different name.

I think when the line was announced it was rumoured they would be transtectors because of how much the titan masters looked like the bigger bots (I think we only had a few images to go off)

So to you Titans Return Scourge is a head and his bigger robot body is an upgrade? Just trying to understand what you were saying.

In the friendliest of ways, I will disagree ;)

They are all as much G1 redux to me and fit well together:

You wont find it, Hasbro doesnt have a name for the whole robot, its just a Transformer and is named whatever the robot's name is. Like with Scourge. He is Scourge the Decepticon and uses the powers of Fracas the Titan Master. But that wont stop me from calling these headmasters headmasters, and their small heads titan masters.

Ah, so I was just crazy; thanks for clearing that up. Now I can put my mind to rest!

I like the idea of the titan master/headmaster being the character and the larger body being a sort of upgrade better than the two-people-in-one-body concept though, so I'll probably ignore the little guys being separate characters anyway.

So to you Titans Return Scourge is a head and his bigger robot body is an upgrade? Just trying to understand what you were saying.

I'm going by the concept the Japanese Headmaster series used, where the head robot is, say, Chromedome, and the larger body is more like an extension. As opposed to the larger body being Chromedome, and the head being Stylor. Just easier for me to keep track of who's who.

I'm in the same boat sort of (basically I see them as one and the same). The head will be a neat thing to play with once, but much like gen Brainstorm, it will never come off except to transform.

Didn't :HASBRO: say the comics would be explaining this?

In G1, both the small head robot was a headmaster and the main complete robot was a headmaster. I thought the idea behind this line was that the complete robot was still a headmaster but the small head component was a titan master. And that seems to be the general idea still since we still reffer to this upcoming Chromedome as a Headmaster (in fact we are all saying how its not cool to be turning everyone into a headmaster) while the small head component is now a titan master. So I think thats smart on hasro to finally clear something up and distinguish the head as a different name than the overall robot.

I thought the small robot was called a headmaster and the larger one was called a transtector. Or was that just in japan?

Transector is only the headless body. The body with the head on was called a headmaster and so was just the head on its own. Now they actually have proper names for one or the other.

And with Titans Return, there is no headless body. Its either the alt mode with the titan master piloting it or the complete robot mode with head, which is the headmaster.

He's coming, and so is gnaw. Just took a while.

Ahhh... Yes, I will need at least two Kickback figures to complete my generations insecticon 'swarm'. Walmart made a mistake with the pricing and Bombshell wound up in the clearance aisle shortly after his official release. My minions were able to get three of them for only $5 apiece...

Not this specifically. They did post a pretty picture to say that there will be integration over different mediums for storytelling but that slide also included the Devastation video game, so I am taking anything Hasbro says about "story integration" with a grain of salt.

I'm curious now. Who's the black and white repaint of Mirage? Kindof hoping it's Crasher, and that leads into a CW renegades combiner.

I don't think Hasbro said this but I believe there was speculation going around for a while. If the heads are "Titan Masters" and they control the bodies, and the line is called Titans Return, that would make the bodies "Titans".
