ACToys- Poster chenkofs of Actoys.net shows off new robot mode pics of Universe Countdown-- the repainted Cybertron Defense Team Red Alert--

Also posted are more pictures of Universe Darkwing in robot mode.

You can view the original thread on Actoys here.

For those commenting yesterday about how to be Generation 1 Countdown, this toy needed to look more like, or include another figure that looks like, the little red lunar rover micromaster, well, it appears they have creatively solved that problem, giving the robot mode, a very similar color scheme to the micromaster lunar rover's version.

Chenkofs of ACToys.net has posted images of two new Classics/Universe figures: Countdown, an homage to the G1 Autobot Micromaster, and Darkwing, an homage to the G1 Decepticon Powermaster jet. Both these figures are rumoured to be store exclusives, possible Toys R Us exclusives, when they will be released in North America

Well, the robot mode of that CD Red Alert repaints seals it: it's Countdown all right, especially with the missle looking like the rocket. Gotta have him, I have the original, base and all but missing the claw arm... :(
Darkwing I'm not too sure about. I own both Dreadwing and Darkwing originals and I'm not gonna shelf out a couple hundred for a BotCon one unless Bugbite, Thundercracker and Thrust are included in the deal. :P

And why would they be exclusives? I still think it's the next wave of general Ultras with or after Predacon Bruticus.

So what's the next Cybertron figure to get a repaint going to be?

My money is on Metroplex. Or maybe Deluxe Unicron.

... I didn't even think of it as Countdown. It's a better fit than repainting Scattershot (AGAIN) as Overload, which wasn't even a similar craft for EITHER the micromaster or the vehicle. I like how he has the micromaster's red in robot mode, but it's mostly hidden in the vehicle mode.

Need more former decepticon micros though!

Counting Countdown (no pun intended) how many repaints have CD Red Alert and Scattershot gotten?

Red Alert: 3? (Original, Megatron exclusive, and now Countdown)

Scattershot: ? (Original, ??, Overloard...)

The robot may be alright, but the altmode colours are aweful. How any of you can like the alt mode's deco is beyond me.

I really liked CD Red Alert (probably my favourite mold of the line) but I wont be wasting any money on this repaint.
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (851990)
Posted by Windsweeper on December 17th, 2008 @ 3:45pm CST
I like it a lot!

I particularly like how I don't look at and think Red Alert. The colours really make it look a seperate entity.

In fact, the red colour scheme and the vehicle mode make me want to see it get a head remold and give us Classics Rodimus Prime.

I liked Countdown in the Micromasters mini-series. Always been a fan maybe because I won the original in the competition in the UK marvel comic, issue 250 when I was a kid.

While I'm not a fan of Legends, I would have liked to see this mold redone as Perceptor. But then I'd like all the newer Legends redecoes such as Hun-gurr, Blades and Ramjet done on their larger counterparts.

You're not good at noticing homage characters are ya?

http://www.tfu.info/1989/Autobot/Countd ... ntdown.htm

It's as apt as the Crankcase homage figure that was Cybertron Red Alert. I would say that the figure would be better suited as a Stalker homage since the body type is perfect, but I find the color scheme Stalker had to be eye burning.

I think the mold works really well as Countdown.

I bought CD Red Alert on ebay last month so now I've got the dilemna as to whether I should sell him quickly and get Countdown or to keep him. Decisions decisions...

I really like the Red alert mold but it's not a necessary repaint for me. If anyone missed him though, I would suggest a look, it is a great toy.

I have no nostalgia for Darkwing, & the blue kinda burns my eyes.

Yet another facepalm move by Hasbro. Why not give it a purple paint scheme instead of red and make even more people happy with a Doubledealer homage? #-o

Yeah, this would be a perfect homage to Doubledealer's bird mode and double Powermaster gimmick.

...

:-?

Oh wait...

Yes, I particularly enjoyed Doubledealer's bird mode and double Powermaster gimmick in IDW's Spotlight Doubledealer...
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (852572)
Posted by Sledge on December 18th, 2008 @ 6:35pm CST
... nope, not seeing the relevance. Can you expand on your point?
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (852583)
Posted by Primacron's Little Helper on December 18th, 2008 @ 6:50pm CST
My point is that a figure can play homage to a G1 character without perfectly replicating the form that that G1 character originally took.

Doubledealer in the IDW comic only transformed into a missile carrier, Cybertron Defense Red Alert is a missile carrier. There have been far more tenuous homages in the Universe line so far, Blaster anyone?
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (852587)
Posted by Sledge on December 18th, 2008 @ 6:55pm CST
No, still not getting it. The point of Doubledealer was that he had two "robot" modes. He was effectively the Decepticon version of Punch/Counterpunch. If you remove his Decepticon form, you remove the point of the character.

Blaster is a terrible example to bring up. How interesting is a toy cassette player compared to a toy jet bomber? Tenuous perhaps, but I'd be fascinated to hear what you think he should have been.
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (852619)
Posted by Primacron's Little Helper on December 18th, 2008 @ 7:34pm CST
I guess that's where we differ in opinion - for me Doubledealer because of his recent comic appearances doesn't necessarily need two robot modes.

My point about Blaster isn't that I think he should have a different alt mode, my point is that CD Red Alert repainted as Doubledealer works quite well as they share the same alt mode, Blaster and Cybertron Soundwave clearly don't.
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (852629)
Posted by Sledge on December 18th, 2008 @ 7:47pm CST
Then I think you're missing the point of the character. It would be as bad as the repaint of Cyb Evac into Springer because they're both helicopters. In fact, it would be worse. Doubledealer's triple-changing nature is essential to his function.

Again, Blaster is a bad example. Did you really think Hasbro would churn out a boombox and have most of the target market say "what is that boxy thing? And what are those little rectangles in it's chest?" Cyb Soundwave was the closest thing that could work as a Blaster homage because he at least has the "tiny partner in chest" gimmick.
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (852645)
Posted by Mkall on December 18th, 2008 @ 8:04pm CST
I agree with Sledge on this point. If there was a Doubledealer figure made, I'd at least want to see the third mode. Powermasters don't matter.
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (852652)
Posted by Primacron's Little Helper on December 18th, 2008 @ 8:16pm CST
Each to their own!

No I don't think Hasbro would churn out a boombox nor do I expect them to. All I am saying is that a repainted CD Red Alert as Doubledealer is a good a choice as any, especially given his recent comic appearance in that exact form.

As it happens I think Countdown is a pretty cool choice as well.
Re: More Pics Of Cybertron Red Alert Repaint As COUNTDOWN (852654)
Posted by Sledge on December 18th, 2008 @ 8:21pm CST
Not having read the comic, I'm going purely off the TFWiki entry, but Doubledealer doesn't actually seem to interact with the Decepticons in that story, so has no need of his third mode. Yes, I understand that the missile truck mode works for Doubledealer's alt mode, but I really think you're missing something that goes a lot deeper than part of his appearance.
