Screw the crown, I want the tray and apron, for more iconic.
This looks excellent, I hope it will be available over here.

Really? I didn't realize it would be that big of a deal. Never really considered the inclusion or omission of the crown a factor in my buying decision for this one.
I already have both TT versions, and the paint apps are just different enough for me to pick the Hasbro version up, as well. In fact, the Hasbro version looks to be the best out of the 3 if these photos are any indication of how production will turn out

I don't know about the first 2 Qs, but this is supposed to be a TRU exclusive. That was announced in February of this year.

As for the figure, I'll definitely purchase it on sight. TRU tends to be really good with getting their exclusives (as opposed to Walmart and Target).

will buy this when I see it
WolfDawg wrote:I'm sure it's a dumb question, but I really wonder how these supposed US exclusives ALWAYS end up in the Chinese market months before the American release. Same thing happened with the Hasbro Toy Shop Exclusives a few years ago.

There's not really a lot of diecast in the Takara one, it's just his dino toes, codpiece, shoulder joints, and two internal chest frame parts. I guess that's still more than Megatron and the Seekers. But so far the diecast content for the domestic MPs has been the same, there's no reason to believe Grimlock will be different. From the looks of these images, I don't think you have worry.

One interesting thing bout this masterpiece is that it is perhaps the closest to the original toy compared to the other 3 masterpieces (OP, Megatron and Starscream) - perhaps it's due to the original cartoon model not being so far away from the toy as the others were.

All of us in the USA appreciate every time you go against the grain and bring out releases for everyone to enjoy. Hoping for an Mp Thundercracker from Wal-Mart in the future.

Already have some cash set aside for it!
Posted by Amelie on May 15th, 2010 @ 5:30pm CDT
I'd pass on this one, even if I could afford it.
On a side note? Why bother with an MP Grimlock? The G1 version is nearly perfect anyways. I'd much rather they concentrated on characters where the toy doesn't fully do the character justice. Roll on MP Rodimus Prime - I could be convinced to get that.

As with all MP, this is my top want of the year, any toy line. The individual claws on hands move --superb! Forgot about that.
I must say, those must be HD photos or something - those are the sharpest and most vivid pics I've ever seen on my computer. Crystal clear. Super hi-rez. How'd he do that? Know he used a Nikon. If you were on the fence about this before these photos, -you're nuts if ur passing now!!!!!!!

The articulation, and the head being in the right place on his shoulders in robot more are a few major improvements that make this a lot better than the G1 version that you have.
There was nothing wrong with this choice. By your line of thinking Prime did not need an MP either, or Starscream.
They will never ever please all with their choices. That is a fact.

Thanks, I haven't gotten any of the US releases so I didn't know if they got neutered or not. Call me old fashioned but I do like the metal in my figures. That puts this guy as bought on sight.

Yeah it's got more articulation, but Prime, Starscream and Megs were VASTLY different from their G1 toys. In fact they were more modeled after their animation models, where this is almost a clone of the toy. It's a nice figure, no doubt, but if you put this side by side with the G1 toy you would not be able to tell which was which from across a room (size differences aside). It seems odd that they would design him this way rather than follow the updated style from the first MP figures a little more closely.

I just don't feel that Grimlock is different enough for me to even consider buying him, that's all. Once he's standing on a shelf, probably gathering dust, he'll look barely any different from an oversized G1 Grimlock - Starscream, Prime and even Megatron have the advantage of being different enough to warrant consideration.
Given $60 to spend on *new* TFs, I'd be making a bee-line for Disney Label or something that changes the way I look at an established character first.

Don't get me wrong, this is a really cool figure, defiantly the best choice if you never owned the G1 version as the person above stated, but I totally agree with you. It's like they're trying to sell me a bottle of Pepsi when I already have a can. I want a slightly new flavor and this just isn't enough somehow. Maybe some small color changes or something would have helped, I don't know.

My concern is offcourse how is the composition of the metal and plastic part of this Hasbro MP grimlock.
Regarding the rumour about dull teeth of US grimlock, thank goodness they are false.
I Already have Takara MP Grimlock, I think I will purchase the Hasbro MP for out of the box display for this item

IMO, the articulation and general robot-mode proportions alone are a significant improvement over the G1. Posed in an interesting way he looks way more imprssinve than the original. However, in dino mode I agree with you, he's nothing spectacular.
