Here's what Derrick had to say:
Well, since images of these guys are already out, and I've been itching to put up some new S3 artwork, here's a look at the Animated Wheeljack and Perceptor models.

My feelings exactly, him and Irohide were always my favourite

No it's a real beard. The wig and pipe were photosho... oh.. Wheeljack.
Ya, it's a robo-beard.
Personally I think Wheeljack looks just like Mixmaster and Perceptor looks like Prowl. Hey, maybe it's his Nerd Armour Worst. Upgrade. Ever!

It's great we're getting the two Autobot Scientists. I get the impression that Wheeljack is going to be a cocky bastard who tries to put down the weaker and smarter Perceptor and often steals his ideas and takes credit for it.
Need moar Animated!

100% win, there better be a toy coming out cause this has the potential to be a lot better than the Downshifts fans have had to settle with.

I think Wheeljack should be voiced by John DiMaggio (Bender from Futurama) and Perceptor could be voiced by Tom Kane (Professor Utonium from Power Puff Girls, among other roles that slip my mind right now). Those would be the perfect voice matches for them, unless of course they can get Paul Eiding back.

One skinnier guy with glasses, and a really big cannon.
Both scientifically, experimentation inclined.
It's the freakin' Mythbusters as transformers.
Not that this is a bad thing. Considering how often those guys blow something up for the heck of it, they'd fit right in.

Perceptor though, I could take it or leave it. I feel he is just overshadowed by the sheer awesomeness of Wheeljack.

Wheeljack looks like he's wearing a toolbelt!

That sole thought has cheered my day. I mean night. Ehr, morning.

Getting a Mr. T vibe from Wheeljack and I hate it. It started with the hated Alpha Trion, robots should not have beards!!!
Animated has already ruined Ironhide. Personally, the only saving grace is I never liked Perceptor or Wheeljack so it's not like they're messing old favourites of mine.
How can Animated get so much right and at the same time get so much wrong?

I would have switched them though, as Jamie tends to be the one whose inventions actually work reliably, and Adam tends to be the one that blows things up by accident. Plus, I can see Perceptor in a beret and Wheeljack in a fedora, but not vice versa.

is that the autobot symbol i see on perceptor's crotch?
Whoa, I think I see it too. Was that intentional?

I've been wondering about that, too.
It's awesome to see more G1 favorites appear. Wheeljack is acceptible, even though they still managed to give him the big-chin design, despite that he doesn't exactly have one.
Perceptor looks okay. I'm excited to see that he may in fact be a microscope. But what's with the wierd dome head and glasses?
I almost wonder if there will be a Beaker and Bunsen Honeydew thing going on here.
Well, the best part is.....here are two more classic characters being introduced to today's young fans, and if the toys of them sell well, we may see them in the Universe 2.0 line also.

Perceptor looks so G1 (bar the head, but it doesn't offend me and I like the addition of glasses to nerd him up some more - even though glasses make no sense on a robot) and it does look like he may be a microscope still, which surprises me. Pleasantly.
Wheeljack just looks excellent in all regards.
Give me those guys as toys!

Perceptor looks weird to me. I like that the made him look like the "stereotypical scienctist" but his head is way too oblong for his body.
Oh well, two new G1 inspired figures. I will buy them both without hesitation.

As for Perceptor, well, he has never been a huge favorite of mine, so I am not as excited about him as Wheeljack. However, I do like him, except they really need to re-work his head and make him look less silly...

Wheeljack is badass and was always one of my favorites, just a little sad because this probably means there'll be no universe wheeljack.
