With the original Hasbro release on the Left and Takara on the right.
Chromedome looks great.
Don't think I need to upgrade Hardhead. But he does look good.
Takara's Brainstorm still looks better.
And Hasbro's Mindwipe I think is still the better of the 3.

Just Brainstorm (retooled from Blurr) and Chromedome, really. So far, the beasts remain unique molds, with Skullcruncher only having a confirmed alternate head as Krok.

Blurr, Brainstorm, Nautica, and Arcee. And Chromedome shares some parts.chuckdawg1999 wrote:Jelze Bunnycat wrote:chuckdawg1999 wrote:Wow, I'm really down for these but seeing the comparisons reminds me just how many figures share parts between them.

Hoping that Arcee at least gets a reissue. I mean, Headmaster Arcee is show-canon so she stands a better chance than most.
Also, I can't believe I didn't notice at first that they just re-used the G1 art. That just looks dumb. I wonder, will we be getting Reprolabels to cover that with G1-style art of the toy actually in the box? Or will they just do stickers to cel-shade the box window so you can't see the mismatch?

Regardless, I'll never see them in store and I already have the regular TR ones.
So, eh...

I'm kinda glad I skipped buying Hardhead on eBay so I can get this rerelease. He and Highbrow are two I missed out on.

Technically Brainstorm has G1-accurate guns, but they're permanently fused to his altmode nosecone.ausbot wrote:Brainstorm and chromedome needed g1 accurate guns
Also, Hardhead's rifle isn't really G1-accurate either.

It kinda matches the toy in the box. Despite being the original box art the heads on the art is new to reflect the new heads on the figures.
I'm thinking about getting these just to keep in box, shame how much Brainstorm is out of view through the window.

I'm expecting casuals to think these are vintage reissues when they see them on the shelf in stores.Overcracker wrote:Cue evil scalper trying to pass these as original G1 figures on Ebay. Get a bit of plexiglass, and bam you get a $2000 rated Headmaster Brainstorm.

They already are, there was somebody on a recent Michael Mercy live stream that was very excited about wave 2 of the G1 Headmaster reissues. (Michael's live streams are usually just him reading and talking about whatever comes up in the live chat.)
At the 5:20 mark
Took a little while but other people set things straight, more or less.

Odd that you only call those two out, considering Hardhead (whose rifle looks like a weird hybrid of his G1 rifles and Chromedome's G1 rifles) and Weirdwolf. I did point out that Brainstorm technically does have the G1 guns, they're just fused to the nosecone/shield. I actually took advantage of that myself:chuckdawg1999 wrote:ausbot wrote:Brainstorm and chromedome needed g1 accurate guns
Here, here.
For what it's worth I think Chromedome's larger gun took inspiration from his G1 rifles in the placement of the diagonals.
Giving them G1-accurate guns at this point would have been a bit much in the way of extra expense. If it's any consolation, last I looked the 3P ones aren't exactly hard to find. Additionally, in Brainstorm's case, if you're up for a minor mod and can get or make some 5mm pegs it's pretty easy to do what I did and turn the molded-in guns into separate ones that work just like the G1 toy's.
I personally really like that the Titans Return molds all came with an accessory (or had combining accessories) that has a Titan Master seat. I like the extra interactivity that provides, especially when you get basebots involved. It has me scheming on building such weapons for Apeface and Snapdragon (a missile pod for the former, a shield/drone based on the Lockheed D21 for the latter).
I still really hope that this line will reissue Misfire, Slugslinger, Windblade, the Jumpstarters... I think at the very least it should reissue Arcee and the Monsterbots (especially Grotusque).
This line's existence gives me hopes for a Combiner Wars reissue line (because as I have said a million times, screw the eBay prices for the CW limbs).

Don't know how that would be executed properly. Offroad and Rook would definitely be skipped molds.

Furthermore, if any CW would be reissued, it would be as Select sets only. Kinda like UW Menasor, Bruticus, Defensor, and Computron. The original characters like Skyreign, Galvatronus, and Optimus-whatverthatis would be skipped.

Computron with the UW molds would be so nice... As much as I like the CW Brawl mold, the drill accessory for CW Nosecone makes it look really cheap.
Back to the Headmasters, I'm gonna wait for reviews before properly diving into the beasts. Skullcruncher's loose joints, Weirdwolf's canopy and Mindwipe's soft plastic worry me a lot.

I literally have a MindWipe from my childhood that is in a little box I have in the corner of my closet, and it is one of the few G1 transformers that I have my from childhood that somehow survived. I was really rough on my toys and took them for granted. The G1 Mindwipe I have is broken as hell...one of the fists has a tab snapped off, I lost headmaster for him, and the tail has a giant stress mark, but man...I'd love to pick him up brand spanking new....

They're exclusive to Walmart in the US, but keep in mind that these are not vintage reissues but Titans Return repaints as written in the article.

Without being screwed over with a knock off, one must pay the big bucks to get back a G1 original. Luckily, Mindwipe is one of the lesser expensive headmasters. Still over 100$ 100% complete however.

It definitely looks translucent. I wonder what material it is since TR Skullcruncher and Krok has a rubber door with Skullcruncher's being solid green and Krok's is translucent yellow.

The Takara Legends version had the same rubbery plastic material used for its door as the Hasbro version, and was translucent too.aronjlove wrote:-Kanrabat- wrote:Does Scullcruncher have a clear pilot cockpit door?

I wonder if that plastic could have been avoided by having blunter tooth tips. That's the whole reason the Weirdwolf and Skullcruncher molds use soft plastic in the first place, is the teeth.

One thing to remember about these figures is that although they come in G1 style boxes, these are not reissues, but instead Titans Returns Deluxe figures with new decos.
What do you think of these figures, have you bought any already? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews!

Quantum Surge wrote:I own Mindwipe since he was the only one that was available on the site. I know the original TR Mindwipe had PVC wing problems, but does the same apply for the Legends version and Convobat?
I have yet to see reports on his redecos/Japanese release breaking, but I'm chalking that up to people being more careful with those. Weirdwolf has the same type of issue with his cockpit window with both the TR and Legends release.
For the uninitiated: the cockpit window piece on TR Wolfwire/Weirdwolf, and the wingtips, head and back wings on TR Mindwipe are made of a soft rubbery plastic. The problem here is that soft plastic has a hard time moving around joints, putting a rough grip on where it attaches on the pins. Over time, the joints get so stiff it's easy to break the (weakened) hard plastic housing of those pins from the forces exerted in all directions.
The Weirdwolf one was known early om, but Mindwipe's stems FROM LAST YEAR.

As before, this is not a reissue of the original Mindwipe Headmaster from the 1987 Generation 1 toyline. Instead this is a redeco'ed Titan's Returns version of the character. Featuring a deco different from the previous versions of the two past releases of this toy. Mindwipes Decepticon Headmaster allies will be released along with the Autobot Headmaster Highbrow.
We have embedded the review below for your convenience:

BUT.
This image has been floating around since sometime yesterday: And I am VERY curious to see what people here think about it. On one hand, these would be the first new figures in this line, the fact that they seem to have just grabbed an Arcee-colored Chromedome boxart off Deviantart is a bit sketch, and what mold would they even use for Armada Sideways. On the other, this feels veeery similar to the PotP leak (where they just used old images/art to display figures that weren't done yet), they've done new-mold exclusives in the past (PotP Punch/CP, SS Leadfoot, etc), and they did release two other UT references/updates semi-recently in Siege/Selects (and a third one was supposed to come with Sky Lynx before getting cut).
Thoughts? I honestly would love for this to be real just for Sideways alone.
Posted by Jelze Bunnycat on January 23rd, 2021 @ 3:36pm CST
Dunno what to think, but the Blurr retool Arcee is in the cards, if true. Maybe a Monsterbot retool for Fangry (maybe Grotusque) with Squeezeplay using Repugnus in the future. Sideways... Outside of a straight reissue of the Armada figure (what a disappointment that would be) I'm blank on that one.
