Edging closer and closer to Legends here.

Takara's swerve is a darker shade of red, and it has a black "square" on the hood to mimic the G1 toy as well. Also, there is more white paint on his shins. Hasbro's version uses a much brighter shade of red, lacks the black hood detailing, and has much less white paint on the shins.

Not bigger, backwards, and it looks so much better for it. There was some speculation in the CW thread that this could be done and it looks like it can be.
It's also a good look at how his shoulders are outward articulated. Not nearly as stiff looking as the Hasbro photos.

But is it just me or is that an alternat head sculpt on the takara version? Long thin face, based on the G1 toy head. Hasbros looks thicker and more triangular with some dashes of IDW homage and wider jaw.

Agreed. Could it be a case of Takara using photos of the Hasbro version for early solicitations, though? Didn't that happen a little while ago with some other Legends reveals?

It did. But some cases have used Takara's toys. Guess this is another tedious "wait and see" case.Wolfman Jake wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Frankly, I can't see any differences between the Hasbro and Takara versions of Megatron, unless Takara's Megatron has darker silver.

Not so fast, Sabrblade. There is a difference in color, but very insignificant given how it's gone unnoticed by almost everyone. The plastic strut on tje front of Leader Megs' leg is light grey on Hasbro's release where as in these pics fron Takara, they are dark grey.

I guess Hasbro's is Daytime Megatron while Takara's is Bedtime Megatron.

Yes, but it seems to only be those parts on the front of his legs that were changed and all the other grey plastic, such as the bit on his knees and the tread wheels, is the same light grey used on Hasbro's. Like I said, very insignificant color difference.

Yeah, I guessed you were just talking about the mold itself.
And Sabreblade, as you can see from a few posts above (or the page before) I couldnt tell the difference either. It's like when I was looking for a difference between the roadbusters. Actually, this one is even more minute. Part of me would have preffered a greater difference. Like Hasbro being in matte grey (like we first saw), homaging the show, and Takara being in silver, homaging the toy.

Legends wj88. Extra bling on Tomy versions and given their penchant for comic/anime accuracy (at least as close to the iteration as possible)
Jetfire= box art (exception to the rule)
Fembot= mix comic and anime
RB and Whirl= G1 toy
And..........gives me time to save.

Remember how Takara Brainstorm didn't look any different than Hasbro's in initial promo pics? I expect we'll see some more differences as actual in-hand versions of both Megatrons inch closer to their release dates.

my entire view of leader megs (in relation to MP's) hasnt skewed my opinion of the figure itself. i actually like it a lot, and think its a phenomenal take on the character. i indefinitely plan yo buy him, whichever version looks best. and that says a lot since i dont plan to use him as a replacement for my united megatron in my C/G display.

It's either or with Tomy wj88 with regards to Megatron, I'm expecting this to have the G1 toy color theme...........shinier.
As for Tankor, I need some convincing to get the figure now that you mentioned him. Based on your posts, he looks great. Easy buy (cheaper than RB and Whirl)but TF universe wise, this is BW and, not too much into him.
Mind you, I've got much uglier figs like Straxus, henkei Galvatron and Octane.

Well, he is more show accurate in both looks and transformation than any of those three. And I actually have a huge soft spot for galvatron, I think that sculpt is remarkable. I sent you a Pm in regards to better places to get Tankor if you're interested.

Appreciate the effort wj88. Tankor is technically no problem purchasing, it's the "should I get him or not" that's the problem. Been to tfwiki and dug about his back story...........quite ironic that the Rhinox fig sold out fast and this one didn't.
He'll be on my to buy list for now.

On that note, I strongly recommend you watch Beat Machines, it's one of the better written TF shows, and it will help you deal with the simplicity in Tankor's transformation (takara actually did a great job with this one).

Throw in Jetfire since Dorvack was meant to be a spiritual sequel to Macross.

No, not Beast Machines, Beat Machines! It's a show where the transformer characters form a band to battle vs other 80s franchises. Tankor was the percussion instrument player.

However, since this is Takara we're dealing with here, the question of which "G1 toy color scheme" comes into play since Takara released G1 Megatron in not just more than one color scheme, but with each one being different from Hasbro's.fenrir72 wrote:It's either or with Tomy wj88 with regards to Megatron, I'm expecting this to have the G1 toy color theme...........shinier.
The original Japanese Megatron release had no shiny colors and had all its reds replaced with blue:
Then there was the "Good Bye Megatron" release that still had the unchromed gray but had the blue parts red like the Hasbro toy:
Later 21st century reissues would see Takara release the original Hasbro deco of shiny gray with red parts (but with the Encore release having a slight tan tint to its silver colors), minus the Chronicle release using the "Good Bye Megatron" deco of non-shiny gray with red.

The "bling" I mentioned pertains to subsequent Takara releases like the Silverbolt having spring launchers, Megatron having functional projectile launchers, extra paint apps etc. Though in Legends Jetfire's case, its the reverse.

don't like that rectangular gap in the upper rectangular chest. Think it looks like Megatron is wearing a vest. Would love it if a shapeways guy created a gap filler piece to fill in the upper robot chest.
Looks like it but i'm hoping this toy doesn't have a waist piece like MP-22 has. That prevents the hips joints from have more walking range of movement. Did the same Takara Designer who did MP-22, also do this toy?

I'm wondering if the gap might be part of the toy's transformation.
