New Possible Image of Transformers: The Last Knight Optimus Prime Voyager Figure

Looks really cheap and poorly made, but that's just my opinion.

I agree. Considering the source material is an armored knight with no kibble and human proportions turning into a modern Earth truck I think it does a fantastic job of pulling that off. And if this is a Voyager then that's pretty amazing as it looks even better than the AOE Leader.

I imagine we're seeing this so soon because it's a first edition or whatever that will be released months ahead of the rest of the line.

The mold looks great (Someone mentioned it might scale nice with Lockdown), but I can't say the same for the paint. Particularly on the head and torso, the paint just seems like a cheap knockoff.

And we all know how Bumblebee feels about those.

The initial image showed us there would be very little paint apps but it still looks dissapointing, especially when compared to the AD Leader (not really fair). The reason I think they did the comparison is ecause this would be Hasbro's first offering of that Knight look Optimus had at the end of the film, with the forearms and new feet and AD 31 is the only other figure to have those feature. Those shoulder pins look huge so I think its a voyager. Transformation looks fun though, I will own this toy in one way or another but I would like to see how the Takara version looks (or how cheap I cold get the Hasbro version for).

Typical cheap looking Bayformers crap!

Here's to hopes that Retail will have the common sense this coming Summer not to let this goofy line interfere with the highly anticipated Generations TR waves releasing around the same time (Overlord! Trypicon, etc).

Any chance its just a roughly painted prototype? Upper thighs don't match the lower thighs.

It is a test figure, yes, but the paint is made to look like the released version, as we know from the paint apps guide. So dont expect anything else aside from how the light will be reflected and the shade of the colours.

The sculptwork looks OK but the engineering looks kinda primitive, and the paint is just miserable.

On the plus side, if this is a Voyager and easy enough to disassemble, I might have found a candidate for converting into Nemesis Prime.

I'm going to assume that this is just a prototype and the actual released version will have better paint applications. I'm going to assume that.

Yeah, this is a test shot. Probably not fully representative of the final product.

While it is a test shot, its not far from what the finished product will look like. The paint aps are all the same you can find in the leaked colour sheet:



Just look at Breakaway for instance. This was the leaked colour sheet:



And here is the finished product (and not a prototype):



And the two match as perfectly as this Prime does.

He has as much paint apps in proportion as any other toy, with Breakaway as a perfect example. However, remember that lighting can be an issue.

Mold looks great. Color looks...

I hate how the neck armor is blue. Would it have been so hard to leave it grey?

This is definitely a toy that looks really bad color-wise from Hasbro, but can look amazing from Takara.

Maybe it was gangmolded with another part that did need to be blue. Or maybe it's unpaintable plastic. Or both.

Looks just as bad as the leader, only thing it has going for itself is it has some paint apps. But its a test shot & that could change very quickly. Have a feeling this line is going to suck just as bad as AoE did.

This toy already has the takara remolding found on the previous leader (as you can see from the image comparison). So it would be mainly paint apps that differ.

is this going to another redesign the same toy 5 different times like bumblebee

A Lighter Grey and a dark blue would be nice - but if their past habits are anything to go by they under-decorated or miss-decorated it on purpose so as to justify another go later one in some hugely expensive platinum set.

Since they keep leaking them by listing or prototypes etc.. I'd say don't buy this at all - and wait for the "Premium deco" version that is sure to show up.

I do wish they'd given him a trailer again though I like Optimus with a Trailer it make him look neat in Truck mode and it give the Autobots something to congregate around too when it's in Battlestation mode.

Also having the Autobots have their pet humans in the Battlestation mode would be a nice nod to Diaclone too.

I'll be interested to see if they've made bee a bit more complex this time the previous Concept one was a bit basic looking I thought.

I'd not mind a Voyager Bee either - (to heck with scale) - not that it matters as I'm sure there will be a Voyager Size KO of what ever they do anyway.

Perhaps Wei Jiang are already rubbing their hands and thinking about over-sizing that Voyager Optimus as soon as possible.

Speaking of KO's I think I'd best remember to chase up the Downscaled AOE Optimus' that exist while they are still around as they'd be a nice complement to the Official toy I think.

Perhaps this time they might make a Leader Megatron or Hound - that would be nice to have - though perhaps that slot is reserved for the Dragon.

Would people mind to much if they skipped the Leader Optimus for a while and did mainly villains - would Hasbro even consider it ?

As it's not a case of there being a want for a larger Megatron so much as a NEED for one. They have consistently dropped the Ball with their Megatron toys - the closest to being a good figure was the DOTM Voyager and that was just to small. But again the Improved KO should be out in 2017 and Is leader size so I guess that will do is Hasbro doesn't come through on that point.

However, that's just in comparison with the one from the last movie. Maybe the CGI render for Prime in this movie is more like this new toy than we think?

They kinda have to, it's not only to sell toys, but also to advertise the latest vehicle model. Bumblebee has at least two per movie: previous or an older model, and next year's.

So...remember when I said that I liked this figure? Well, now looking at the Voyager Optimus in a higher definition photo, it is pretty disturbing. The blurry image of it made it look better.

Molding is amazingly accurate. Paint is awful.

Which one am I supposed to be looking at? Oh well, they both look like shit anyway.

We have seen the colour test, a possible slapdash prototype, and now - via fellow Seibertronian AzT - we get a look at Hasbro Transformers's John Warden himself presenting the prototype for the upcoming The Last Knight Optimus Prime figure, on what looks to be a Chinese TV show or segment. This looks like a voyager.

Doesn't look too far removed from the Movie 4 Optimus. And I guess that depends on how collectors felt about THAT toy...

Kind of hoping they release a new leader Grimlock to go with this. The AoE leader was...disappointing, and if they're going with a knight theme in this one, Prime needs his mighty steed! Perfect opportunity to make a new one that a voyager can ride on without tipping over.

No that is the San Diego Comic con Devastator in box

It's filmed right at the Rhode Island headquarters with the Hasbro guys chatting away and the woman asking questions in English and then translating for the audience. It's a really cool video, well worth watching since they spend a lot of time showing how the art is done, even drawing up a neat red and gray Soundwave. It's a great look inside Hasbro!

You can't, it was custom decorated by the Hasbro team for the TV show. They get a really cool and huge piece of fan art in return.

Looks like a likely purchase for me.

Tmall TV, an online Chinese language show about consumer products, had a special episode on Transformers where they toured Hasbro's head office, got a history lesson of the brand by John Warden and were shown how the toys were made. Hasbro chose this as the occasion to officially reveal Voyager Optimus Prime from Transformers: The Last Knight by showing the process it took to make him. You can see screenshots of the show below where they go through all the steps, from design, to grey model, to finished sample.

The grey model shown is of the same toy and it is actually hand crafted by sculptors (before the mold for mass release is done). This model is then photographed and digitally painted.

The sample shown is confirmed to be according to the colours chosen by the designers. While anything can happen, this seems to indeed be the final colouring of the toy.

The conversion was said to take about 15 steps (with some steps being truncated as one for this estimate).

John Warden then said that Hasbro was currently working on 160 transformers toys, at different stages of course. While that seems like a big number, it would include redecos, one steps and one step redecos.

We then got a look at how an artist designs a toy, using Soundwave as an example.

The special ended with a shot of the entire Transformers team (which seems to have as many women as men, a pleasant surprise) while an exchange of gifts were. Tmall got a custom Year of the Horse Optimus Prime while Hasbro got a 5 meter long piece of art showing many different versions of Optimus and Megatron.

I suppose I have never seen a news post updated here, I guess starting new posts is how it's done on Seibertron. I just have it ingrained in me to always update news posts rather than start new ones whenever possible, otherwise people might mistake the new post for the old one they've already read and stop scrolling down.
