Seibertron sponsor TFSource has shared with us an expected and unexpected new listing for the Takara Generations line. First up is one we all knew was coming and that is TG19 Fall of Cybertron Grimlock and features the usual metallic paint. The second one is a pleasant surprise and that is TG20 Ratbat. Ratbat is a metallic purple and gold repaint of Generations Scourge with what looks to be a new head.

A Senator Ratbat?
Preordering as soon as tfsource lists that.

Already are at $37.
Not sure I'd buy Grimlock at $60.
Edit: The varying quality shown in Grimlock photos is deceiving and confusing. The pics used by TFSource for the Takara and Hasbro versions show the same metallic sheen on them you'd expect of silver paint. Some pics have a much duller unpainted metallic plastic for the Hasbro version. Other pics show the stripe across his chest blinged out in silver when the TFSource pics don't.
I can't make a decision when reliable info is hard to come by.

Ratbat does look pretty tidy actually, Id buy one should they ever appear over the pond here in the U.K. as paying something like £35/£45 for a Deluxe delivered would be crazy for a repaint.
Nice though but some decent pictures without advertising blurb all over them would be better...

Ratbat looks amazing with that paint job (much like the United version of Scourge did).
FYI, if Ratbat does come to the US, it won't have that shiny metallic purple paint. It will be the typical drab plastic.

Everybody likes the wings tilted down to resemble G1 Scourge. If the transformation only allowed the "proper" straight winged look the figure would have been an epic fail.
On Ratbat, it's a big maybe. I kind of like the Target repaint better. That mold makes the character more unique while this mold really just makes him a purple Scourge.

not sure if i want to spend 65 bucks for Grimlock. I thought the USD-YEN conversion rates has been getting better? bet these e-tailers are just ripping us off...

Thing is, this will influence my decision of a humanoid Ratbat: the Universe 2008 one, based on Cybertron Sideways, or this one?
Doesn't anybody find it ironic Ratbat's now really connected to Scourge via BotCon 2009 Scourge?

Ratbat is an EASY pass for me. Repainting is not creative, just lazy although I am impressed they waited that long to re-use the mold.

Same here. The only one I liked was Ravage in Beast Wars.
That said, I am getting this, but just who exactly he'll be on my shelf remains to be seen. Perhaps one of the Sweeps who used to be a purple jet and decided to get his old color scheme back? Or maybe a Sweep who was formerly an Insecticon and decided to get a new paint job to look more like his old self again?

Now thats another Cybertron mold I would like, especially in the Ratbat deco!
Seems we are starting to see more and more originally smaller character from the animal community being given a humanoid body to play with?
Ravage, Laserbeak, Ratbat! Any more?

But wasn't the last gumanoid ravage in Alternators? Or am I missing a figure somewhere?
See, I got all psyched up when I found the ratbat & Frenzy Enemy FOC pack because he had thecurved cdplayer wings from the IDW series. And as soon as you stretch the spring soit still provides tension on the neck and lets his head point down, he's an awesome little Ratbat. i've got the 08 Ratbat, and I really like this one's head better, but this isn't a bad figure, either. I think I may just has tofigureout who Ratbat is and go from there.

They're on a removable hinge joint. A bit fiddley but achievable. Makes him look more

Now that I think of it, I was fiddling with my Scourge when one of his wings popped off his hinge. I reattached it and thought nothing of it.

I'm looking forward to him. Not looking forward to paying $25+. Like MP Soundwave, I'm waiting several months for Hasbro to call off their bluff before I bite the bullet and import.

Yep, thats whom I was referring to!
I guess it would make more sense to Hasbro/Takara to change those old animal Transformers into humanoid/vehicle bots to give them more of a selling chance and leave the animal bots to 3rd Partys to play with for a while?
A Transformer will sell more using the traditional aesthetic than an animal orientation.

Nemesis Destron wrote:I will wait for more pics on Grimlock to make a sure choice. But can someone explain this "Senator Ratbat" to me please? I'm not getting it and I haven't followed the books in a long time.
It's in IDW comics. Long ago, Ratbat had a humanoid robot mode and was part of the Senate. He merely monitored news feeds and was a grand manipulator for the sake of profits. However, after a betrayal by Soundwave his spark was transferred to his current smaller form.
You can read all about it in the Megatron Origins and Chaos Theory series.

In the IDW continuity of Generation 1, Ratbat was a fairly humanoid Cybertronian senator (hence the name "Senator Ratbat") that funded Megatron's underground gladiator arena. You can read more at TFWiki's page on Ratbat, under the IDW Generation 1 section.

Yet, the very first portrayal of all of Soundwave's animal minions had them speaking before they even first appeared in the cartoon.Rated X wrote:Honestly, I cant say Im a big fan of Senator Ratbat, Energon Ravage, or any other animal character getting re-purposed as a humaniod robot that talks.
Not to mention that the cartoon had other animal characters who spoke (Dinobots, Insecticons, Predacons, Terrorcons, Horrorcons, Decepticon Headmasters, Trypticon, Sky-Lynx, Ramhorn, etc). Ravage himself even spoke in the third G1 episode.
But it was. Universe (2008) Ratbat:robotmel wrote:Now thats another Cybertron mold I would like, especially in the Ratbat deco!
Though, in Alternators Battle Ravage's case, he was Beast Wars Ravage, so it made sense for him to be two-legged.robotmel wrote:Flashwave wrote:But wasn't the last gumanoid ravage in Alternators? Or am I missing a figure somewhere?

The later Alternators "Decepticon Ravage" that turned into a Jaguar car, however, was four-legged and represented G1 Ravage.

Oh, no no. I mean the wings being open. They open to reveal a compartment to hold his weapons, as we all know. However, there's another hinge wrapped around the hinge that opens the compartments. Push on it, leave the compartments open, and you have Scourge's full cape. Scourge always had a cape made out of his wings.

If I picked up this one, I would have to find some kind of insect head and make the figure into Bugly.
Janus Prime wrote:Yes, we first learned about this new head over 2 years ago. I guess the only ones that still are unaccounted for are Lugnut´s and Warpath´s alternate heads.
I remember those. People thought that Lugnut might possibly be repainted into Omega Supreme while I think it's been confirmed that Warpath will be redone as Hardhead.
Personally, I would like to see Warpath redone as G1 Treadshot or Gutcruncher (like the legends version was) and Lugnut as a humanoid version of Sky Lynx. It could work if they gave him a lynxesque head. I can't imagine who else it could be made into.

Nah, I don't think that's it, so much as they neededrepaint fodder and the Decepticons were lacking. As you may recall, we got a Jaguar Jaguar a few months later complete with Ravage's rear missiles, which awesomely will fold out under the car mode. And he sold just fine. (the older fig was reprurposed then as BW Ravage, who was bipedal more on account of upgrades and having a Jag beast mode)
Also, don't foget the Terrorcons, ROTF Ravage, DOTM, Laserbeak, Scorponok, And we're getting Beast Formers right now. The animals do sell, it comes more down to what homage they were planning to do and can they get a head on the figure?
Although, In Ratbat's case, i think it was more that someone felt like an animal mode was too primitve and that cybertron would have been beastist to tranformers with lessthanhumanoid bot modes. So Ratty got a face.

I´m not sure if Hardhead is confirmed, but it would be a nice addition. Lugnut is still a mistery, I just don´t know what character he might represent, maybe it´s Omega, maybe not.
