Thanks to posts on Instagram, we have images of the newly revealed toys on display at Fan Expo Canada. We can get a better look at Shockwave, Mixmaster, the firs movie Megatron and others. We get a really good look at the alt mode of the later, which looks well painted. Though these are samples so the final product may not have that paint (which has happened before). The chest for Megatron seems identical to the ROTF version. These can all be preordered right now at the online collectables store of your choice.

Check the images below and tell us what you think!

Not to sound ungrateful. All of these look amazing. I would just consider Frenzy way more important than Igor or Scorponok. Same for Scalpel for that matter.

Wait till a exclusive barricade and bumblebee two pack with frenzy.

Did Sideways ever turn into a robot in the film?

That new Megatron is insane! Somehow I’m more impressed with him than the MPM. I can pretty much see where all the parts go but that’s still some airplane magic happening over there. Never been into collecting movie figures but this might be my first. I just wish there was an SS 07 Optimus with better paint than we’ve gotten so far

I'm glad they both seem like solid figures, but it's one of my biggest pet peeves, so I'm gonna be skipping '07 megs, too bad too, he looks great :(

I don’t know, I think the jet mode nose might fold up to help fill out that space based on what we’re looking at. No way of telling unless we see some different angles, though.

That's driving me crazy. I don't get why they couldn't remold that piece too. I mean, I'd rather have more screen accurate than the accesory.

There appears to be a track on the underside of Scavenger’s forearms I believe that’s where that square peg on Hightower (and Scrapper) will slide in.

If you're talking about the cut out on the white part, then no way, it's closed off and seems way too narrow to accommodate the connector :-?

I think the forearm bends up leaving that red piece at the elbow in place revealing the track. The square peg is actually pretty small and that’s a leader class. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

OK, so today was an exciting day, and we have all the Wave 9 Studio Series reveals!

Here are my thoughts on each:

Image

Looks frikkin amazing! Demolishor was my first RotF figure and one of the first Decepticons I got at all. He looks marvelous, definitely seeming like an improvement over his original figure. And the treads end up inside the wheels! That is brilliant.

Image

Also looks really good! I've been trying to find Devastator face parts in there and i can't. I think the cab will fold inside out to become the face, that is the only way that can work from what I can see. He still looks good as his own individual too!

6 down, 2 reveals to go, and i think those will have the 2nd most interesting: Overload. (Scavenger was the first)

Image

This one makes me nervous. This is yet another Shockwave that is a leader scale, and unlike his Siege counterpart, he doesn't seem to have a very good reason for it. He is a retool of a voyager with 3 non-posing accessories, very different from Optimus with a trailer. He needed his Driller! We need the Driller!

I'm also nervous because he is a retool of RotF Megatron, and that mold was pretty ass. One of the weakest of the line. they would have been better with a new mold.

Image

Trash.

Like, this hurts Trash.

what have they done???? That jet mode is so boxy in the back. the middle is not streamlined or cohesive at all. The entire chest and crotch are wrong! The legs are boxy when the MPM proved you didn't need that!

What the hell did you guys do? You nailed the MPM, and then you make this... why?

On a plus, the head looks nice and the mace is awesome, but.... come on guys, i expected much better.

So with these reveals, how long until we get wreckers? Like, Wreckers, Dino, Que, Jolt, they have to be inevitable, right? And I am still holding out hope for a Leader class Infernocus

Unless they’re saving the wreckers for a 2021 10th anniversary release, I think it’s a really safe bet that we’ll see at least one in the next deluxe wave.

I’m trying to think how they could tackle a Driller in Studio Series, it would almost have to be a titan to get the scale across, maybe even just a short section as a commander class? I’m not sure how feasible it would be.

With Shockwave getting a toy without the Driller, I think we can forget the Driller toy at this point, it's a pipe dream. I don't think it does enough by itself to be an individual release sadly.

And I am so happy we are getting Brains and Wheelie. With them and the Arcees, the only Live Action Autobot I will be missing that was in the movies will be Dino. i have everyone else at some scale and toy, but Leadfoot and roadbuster need weaponized deluxes.

OK, I do have a Dino, but it is that Prime Cyberverse repaint of sideways, so it doesn't really count

Yeah, Takara made a separate character named "Skipjack" from a yellow redeco of the red Legends/Legion class Rampage toy from the 2010 line, thereby enabling anyone to repurpose the yellow Rampage toys as the separate Skipjack character.

Hmm, kinda torn on these. Megatron and Shockwave being remolds (of the same figure, no less) kinda bugs me, although I admit both of these look pretty good. Just not sure they're so good I feel like blowing $30 each to replace the original voyagers I already have of both of them.

Scavenger looks like an improvement over the original, but those images of him next to the Shockwave don't make him look as HUGE as I was hoping he would be. He's the same model as Demolishor, and Optimus was barely taller than his wheel in the film. Was hoping he would be designed in a way where he would TOWER over other voyagers in the line, like SS Grimlock.

Image

Mixmaster looks like a flat out downgrade to the original, IMO. Only reason to pick him up would be to form Devastator.

Megatron is a brand new mold. He just uses the wrong chest detailing, they screwed that up.

I agree though that Scavenger needed to be bigger. i'm happy with the size and look but it would have been perfect in an even larger size

Shockwave has a couple parts from ROTF Megatron in his legs, and his transformation is largely similar. While it is mostly new parts, ROTF Megs is the base for Shockwave.

Someone on the last page pointed out that he could see some tooling of rotf voyager megs on Shocky.

The problem with scavenger being bigger is balancing devy, scale might not be what it should on the individual figures but Devy is the main focus this time around.

I'm shocked that D-Max is 07 Megs biggest detractor  I guess the mpm spoilt you ;-) I think he's good considering the restrictions on his size class

Might be more shared engineering? I looked but couldn't tell too many similar pieces, we'll know more when in hand images show up and someone does a comparison to rotf megs

Yep, voyager retooled into leader, the extra gear and tooling taking up part of that price along with the minifigures. You can really see it in the legs, Shockwave uses megatron as a base.

And yeah Zero, the MP might have spoiled me. But still, the chest/crotch should have been easy to do right, and why put the wings in the legs? They ended up on his back

I can see the non-foot treads, the thighs and the upper arms are reused. Still, so far it's more similar to Moonracer/Novastar into Chromia.

Look at the treads. They match Megatron's in both detailing and positioning. Only the front/toe treads are now the armored toes. The parts end up in the same place in alt mode, head, arms, and all.

How do you know that exactly? It looks to me like they did use the chest of the previous toy, or at least it's CAD file.

I wouldnt call any of these retools though, just part sharing. The idea of using the word "mold" as a singular doesnt really work anymore anyway. Just like TR Blurr shares some parts (thus some of it's molding) with TR Chromedome (or how siege sideswipe shares a part with Sixgun and  ).

The picture isn't mine, thankfully. And I've had no issues as of yet with my Shadow Raider. But on reddit at least, I have seen some talking about how that shoulder joint has broken on them. I didn't even know the whole shoulder was clear plastic until I saw this photo.

The decision to put his wings on the legs I find completely absurd. I mean, the plane mode tail and wings on his back were literally the only kibble he had in his robot mode in the movie, why make the sculpt less accurate by making up a weird new transformation scheme that puts them on the legs? I mean, it all could just have been a backpack, giving him better legs and a more accurate back. And the noticeably inaccurate reused chest is a really strange choice too.

I legit cannot wait to get a demolisher this amazing in my collection, he was my first rotf figure, but I was immediately let down by his lack of articulation - which he definitely should have had more of, he was simple enough to accommodate it - unfortunately his rubber tracks, for some reason, have since turned green and brittle; so getting a way more articulated, more screen accurate, version that is also a combiner, is just the best thing ever

Picked up the KSI Boss, and I think I lost the QC lottery as hard as possible. Nothing actually pegs together. Not sure if it's misassembled, or extremely terrible tolerances. The wing panels were even bent when I unfolded them. I wish Hasbro/Takara went back to packaging TFs in vehicle mode, it'd probably prevent things like this. I really wanted to like this figure, and I would, if not for seeming to get the worst possible copy. One of the only TFs I've returned. :(

Aside from when, where, and how much, the main question asked after Hasbro revealed their latest Transformers Studio Series toys was "where do Scavenger's threads go in alt mode?". Well, thanks to Victinoko who reached out to us with some images they took, we now know. The big treads we see in robot mode are within the alt mode, int he centre. They are very obvious with a view of the toy from the top. We have other images, one being of Shockwave from the top which is far from obvious (granted, he never did Transform in the movies). There has been a big discussion on retools here since some parts are shared among the toys, however please remember that with recent examples, like Titans Return Blur and Chromedome, sharing a common piece does not mean that a toy can't also be a unique experience all the same. With advanced toy making techniques and basing some toys on a similar CAD model, it may be time to retire the conception of retool, at least pertaining to examples like the leader Shockwave and voyager Megatron found below.

Let us know if you are excited for these toys!

I think what you are noticing are problems with the mold in general, albeit a bit extreame. The initial release was plagued with problems too. Pieces fall off of everyone's. I know Kanrabat had a terrible experience with Nitro Zeus. He returned his too. The wings are made of a thin plastic and there being lots of parts, there are many places where quality can be faulty. Sorry to hear about yours but sadly, it's not an isolated case.

Mixmaster's claws are sticking out from the back end of his vehicle mode. :P

Wonder if there's any chance we'll see Scavenger redecoed as Demolisher (since Demolisher was the one who transformed into robot mode in RotF) and Rampage into Skipjack for a more movie-accurate yellow leg (not misassembled this time please)?

I think there's a fair chance. It's a memorable moment and there arent many leaders in this scale.

Just curious of something though, are they the same sized vehicles? Like while they look the same, are we sure they are the same? Demolisher looks way bigger than this Scavenger, according to movie scale.
