Why can Hasbro do stuff like this for their main line figures?
A carded package with just add-ons and weapons, for deluxe price. Electronic gimmicky weapons and add-ons in a box for the voyager price.

I'm rather surprised there doesn't seem to be any re-use of parts here. Not even thighs or feet or anything. I'm sure they'll come eventually, but still it's kinda strange.

I'm interested to know whether Ultra Magnus, Cliffjumper and Skywarp will be released without their respective arms, or whether they'll be available as parts with each of the larger figures as a collector incentive, similar to the Marvel build figures like Iron Monger.

I dunno. Personally I really enjoy the revoltech Transformers figures and they don't transform. These Mashers just look like a dumbed down, less detailed (and cheaper) version of the Revoltechs. 'course I haven't gotten my hands on one to know for sure, but that's what they look like.

Obviously, it all depend of the price point. You get what you pay for.

Yah, they are what they are. I knew what I was getting when I picked them up. They're basically just Transformers versions of the existing Marvel Hero Mashers.

They will however, be great for the kids.

Yeah, that's probably the only one I'd be willing to go for. I still find it very odd that they used this Heatwave as opposed to Rescue Bots Heatwave.

It's even got RB Heatwave's Energize dual-nozzle cannon.Mindmaster wrote:I still find it very odd that they used this Heatwave as opposed to Rescue Bots Heatwave.
Another point of weirdness from the new design team, on top of:
- Generations Whirl and Roadbuster based more on their G1 toys and not as updated as other "Classics-style" toys
- G2/IDW-esque Generations Jhiaxus colored like the RiD toy.
- AOE Evolution 2-Packs using Energon Grimlock and the DOTM dino Mini-Cons
- G1 Strafe box art on the AOE Strafe Evolution 2-Pack to represent the G1 Swoop-esque toy
- Walmart getting exclusive AOE redecos of Beast Wars molds from over a decade ago
- MP Sunstorm not colored like G1 Sunstorm

Brilliant! I almost spit my coffee on my keyboard.
I saw these at ToysRUs in Middletown, NY yesterday. Megatron and Bulkhead are pretty cool. Bumblebee is horrible. These are a pass for me, even though I love the Marvel Mashers.

My guess is that he's supposed to represent a non-kiddie, G1 equivalent of Rescue Bots Heatwave.

It's more likely that the new design team members wanted to make a Heatwave Hero Mashers figure, looked for the name in the archives, found the Timelines/SG toy before the Rescue Bots toy, and went with that instead.Metro Prime wrote:Mindmaster wrote: I still find it very odd that they used this Heatwave as opposed to Rescue Bots Heatwave.

Same thing happened with Generations Jhiaxus's orange RiD deco despite the mold clearly being designed to resemble G2/IDW Jhiaxus (they looked in the archives and found the RiD toy first and used that for reference instead of the comics' deco).
After all, this Hero Mashers Heatwave even has the dual-water cannon tool that belongs to Rescue Bots Heatwave.

i AM tempted to buy a masher figure. never was into the marvel stuff, but this tf shit might be good. i am confused as to why rime comes with an ultra magnus hand. i do hope to see an ultra magnus in the future.
as for those saying dumb down toys are for stupid kids, well, maybe its you who are stupid with a superiority complex.
you know what toyline was great but everyone hated them with a passion, but still gain a huge fanbase of collectors who LOVED the style and posability? ----GI JOE SIGMA 6.
And these are what they remind me of, in style, both transformers and marvel mashers........hasbro...make GI JOE version of these mashers. PLEASE!

It seems like the new design team has been making some weird double homages, like the new Protectobot Groove's deco being based on the G2 version, or the Jhiaxus thing, along with a bunch of other stuff that you posted in the MP Sunstorm thread. I might be giving them more credit than they deserve, then.

G2 Groove was orange and teal, not blue.Metro Prime wrote:It seems like the new design team has been making some weird double homages, like the new Protectobot Groove's deco being based on the G2 version, or the Jhiaxus thing, along with a bunch of other stuff that you posted in the MP Sunstorm thread. They seemed to have based this Groove's deco off of Universe Groove instead.
And I really would give the new team too much credit since, when they admitted to basing Jhiaxus's deco off of the RiD toy because that's what they found first, the whole reason they had to go looking in the archives for a Jhiaxus deco was because they weren't even aware that the Generation 2 comics Jhiaxus deco existed.
The new team is comprised mostly of freshly new people who came from other brands like Star Wars and G.I. Joe, and aren't really that familiar with the Transformers brand's 30 years of history. There are simply a lot of things that they aren't aware of, and thus keep making these kinds of awkward decisions not knowing that the fans are going to be raising a few eyebrows over each of these choices they make.

I did some research. It seems the Jhiaxus we're getting is based on the IDW design, which is actually orange and grey. Then again, I may be reading too far into it and the new design team is just not that knowledgeable when it comes to Transformers. .
Some of them coming from G.I. Joe makes sense, considering we're getting figures like Whirl and Roadbuster who are essentially G1 figures with more posability. I have Whirl in hand right now, and he really does feel like a transforming G.I. Joe vehicle. The decals, the opening cockpit, just everything about it just seems different from the other Generation Voyagers.
Posted by Sabrblade on June 12th, 2014 @ 9:26am CDT
Yes, the Jhiaxus mold is sculpted to take inspiration from the IDW version of the character, but said version still used a deco akin to his G2 self. Red head, even.Metro Prime wrote:I did some research. It seems the Jhiaxus we're getting is based on the IDW design, which is actually orange and grey. The new guys just didn't know at the time.
It's also likely why the Strafe Evolution 2-Pack uses G1 Strafe's art for the Swoop-looking Mini-Con toy.

Nope ... but that's one of my favorite Toys R Us stores to visit because of the old school 1980s look and feel to the store. I stop by on my way back to Chicago from visiting my family in the Grand Black, Mackinac City or Ann Arbor areas. I'm originally from the Flint, Michigan area ... grew up in Fenton, MI. Lived in the Grand Rapids area from 98 to '02 before moving to Chicago.

today. Same area,kind of.
I thought about getting it, but names it Strafe
on the package, not Swoop. But it looks like Swoop..
That bugged me. I put it down and walked on.
I was really on the lookout for Gen Cosmos
and Swerve anyway.
Posted by Skywarp64 on July 8th, 2014 @ 1:16am CDT
I might have to get Strafe just so I can put his head on Optimus like in the box art.
I don't much care for transformers that can't transform, but that is hilarious.
