With Transformers G1 Soundwave being rereleased at Walmart this year, everyone hoped that would also mean a rerelease of his cassettes. Well, now we have confirmation that it’s happening. We found images on the Snakas blog of two packs each having two cassettes. One pack comes with Ravage and Rumble (in Red) and the other comes with Laserbeak and Frenzy (in Blue). This is the very first rerelease of Frenzy and Rumble by Hasbro, so quite the occasion. All we know for the release date is sometime in 2019, but as we saw with Optimus Prime that sometime could be tomorrow. So keep your eyes peeled. We also have no confirmation on the price.

Yes! Hopefully each pack will be 10$ or something. I would buy them all with Soundwave if that's the case.

I'd be shocked if they're under $20 each.

Well that is exciting news that's bad for my wallet. Might have to jump at SW and his minions now.

If they aren't very expensive I think I'll grab the Laserbeak/Frenzy pack, since my reissue Lazerbeak has long since lost his head and I don't own the Frenzy/Rumble mold.

This rerelease is a deep loss for all FIRRIB fans. :-( However! We will not back down! Has long as :HASBRO: / :TAKARATOMY: are still around, this fight shall never be over!

Shhh, no one mention that the original toys were exactly like this, as that would prove that FIBRIR was the original idea.

You know, I find that I don't like any of the cassettes as well as those originals. Even the masterpiece versions come up short when compared to those in my mind. I don't know why. I mean they've updated virtually every character from G1 in one form or another and created superior toys ... except those guys. They're just neat. Glad to see them coming back!

Expect to pay $40 a pack for them.

Damnit! I was gonna do just that after seeing all the comments! Yeah, this is nothing new. The G1 Hasbro releases always followed RIRFIB. It's the G1 cartoon that first gave us RIBFIR. Since then, Hasbro releases have alternated between the two naming schemes, fueling the fires of the debate. Takara has always remained loyal to RIRFIB, though, and even swapped the names back for Japan's release of the G1 cartoon a year later. Since this "Vintage G1" line is trying to emulate the original releases as much as possible, right down to how Soundwave and his minions were bundled and sold, it makes sense that Hasbro would retain the original RIRFIB naming scheme for this line.

I still say to this day, G1 Ravage is one of the most elegant Transforming toys ever made.

There's a pattern, but it's inconsistent. The main players in this war are either in team toy or team toon.

None of that contradicts what I said at all, actually. Takara Tomy has always done it RIRFIB, and Hasbro switches back and forth. Where I take offense, though, is in the name of that JPEG. Everyone knows their proper couple name is "Rumbzy!" [-(

The Cassette reissues are absolutely amazing, especially in that beautiful G1 packaging. Soundwave and the cassettes are my weak spot alongside Pretenders! I like Blaster, but he just didn't do it for me like Soundwave.

Yeah, I am with you there. These seem awesome and I always wanted a G1 ravage but I am weary on the price. Also, because these will be really sought after, I fear that I will have to pay that high price (if its high) just to ensure I get them. I am hoping for a $20 CAD or less price point.

Maybe they'll do Enemy, or do the actual version of Frenzy that came with Ratbat which was the cheap version with plastic feet instead of die-cast, but came with the gold weapons.

I'd love to see them have some fun with this and do a Wing-thing (orange Ratbat) with Enemy 2-pack. That would be awesome. And a Howlback and Garboil 2 pack would be awesome as well. They could do endless Cassettes!

Though I'd really love to see Hasbro release Slamdance and Squawkbox at long last, who have never been reissued. I thought we'd get reissues of them long before we'd ever see "reissues" of the Dinosaur cassettes.

I am sincerely loving all of the G1 reissues we’ve gotten, and are continuing to get. It’s really exciting. Especially since I just started collecting G1 figures last year. It’s helping to fill in the ranks. I don’t mind at all that my collection is a mix of originals and reissues at all. I’m just hoping that whatever figures are being released from now on are much easier to get than Starscream, and the minibots were. I know some areas had it easier than others. As far as I know my area did not see any reissues. And trying to order through walmart’s website was an awful online shopping experience. There were a few times that figures appeared in stock, went to check out, and they were out of stock. Other times I got my order in, and then days later I got one cancelation for one minibot. The next day a cancelation for another. Then a cancelation for Starscream. Hot Rod was the only easy one to acquire.

Surely this is The Line that HasTak should be thinking of reissues for figures they have never done so before, given Transformers profile couldn't really get much higher than right now.

Slamdance and Squawkbox, Snapdragon and Apeface, Blue Bacchus, the double Targetmasters and perhaps even a nice Raiden boxset?

Fan who grew up with only the cartoon: Who are they? When did they appear? :???:

P.S. Don't answer those questions, I'm well aware who they are, but the casual uninitiated fans may not.

Consider the cassettes bought! Good news is they won't be replacing the Mini-Bots as they have different assortment codes.

You know what'd be really awesome? A cartoon accurate "Rumble" and "Frenzy" two pack, or at least a cartoon accurate Rumble with Ratbat or something. Blue Frenzy toy is not a truly accurate "Cartoon" Rumble or Takara cartoon Frenzy. He needs that purplish blue, etc. That would be awesome and funny.

Just to clarify, this would only be awesome if we ended up with the more desirable cassettes first, or if it were a convention exclusive like for SDCC or something. I wouldn't want a niche item to replace a better selling item.

I know your pain. I want that Devastator set too, but have only seen it fleetingly once or twice, way before it went on clearance. Each time, $74 was just too much to drop on it at that time. Now it's just gone from the Twin Cities area, though, mysteriously, some Walmarts still have the sticker on the shelf for it, but haven't stocked it in months.
