Which one I would own solely? IDW styled Drift or legion Fixit. Those are the 2 options and it would be a fight to decide

I would totally buy it if was "motormaster" with proper headsculpt, not just repaint.

Yeah, its so rare we get a mold where the trailer is part of the robot these days that Motormaster would be a perfect Oppotrunity.
So, VA'AL:
Va'al wrote:I know Sideswipe has terrible joints which hinder any kind of enjoyment of the toy, really.
Strongarm has big back kibble, but any other takes on her?
Jazz? Drift? Steeljaw?
The best is Drift for the simplicity but beauty of the transformation. It is perfect. The way the chest forms is so smart in a super simple way. And that alt mode is insane! He will be on a few best of lists.
Scott was right actually, the really cool thing with these is the alt modes, they are top notch. It's a very underrated line, with new characters and new designs.
The rest after Drift are all itneresting but deeply flawed. Here are quick reviews:
Steeljaw: amazing concept with the most complex transformation for a deluxe out right now on the shelves and great alt mode. The flaw is in his very thin arms and overly cumbersome kibble.
Sideswipe: he is probably the RID toy I like transforming best. This is on a new level of clever with really smart double purpose kibble that flips around depending on the mode. It also has a nice lean look in comparison to the rest. But of course, you cant play with it well since the chest wont peg together and posing him becomes a really sore point.
Strong Arm: her backpack is the leat of your worries and I actually think thats her best attribute. Simply because it isnt a backpack. It's a smart use of a shellformer by turning the shell into it's back and giving it wings (like movie bumblebee). My problem with it is its oversimplification and the really ugly forearms.
Bumblebee: I am not as big a fan of this guy as Kanrabat is but I will say that it is a nice fun toy. Nice in both modes but the robot mode suffers from a lack of posability due to the cumbersome enormous shoulders.
And the Warrior Class Optimus toy is garbage for the most part. It has everything I hate in transformers: fake kibble (for the chest), overly simple transformation devoid of wit, and really obvious robot parts in alt mode:

Er-mah-gerd; would you like some level of complexity with your lump of over-priced unpainted plastic!?!
(Seriously though, talk about uninspired on a fundamental level )

I can give you that for the under shot. But for the view from the top, I see it all the time. I transform and pose my toys regularly, and enjoy just fiddling with them and those legs making the back of his trailer are super apparent and dont look good. I feel the Legion class does a better job with the trailer area.

That's probably a good thing. My RID bug has not progressed to the Optimus Prime stage yet. But the "clash of" version almost got me yesterday.Va'al wrote:Nope. I said one, I got one.
I was somehow able to resist, even though I had some TRU reward $ in my pocket. I think I keep hearing Will's voice in the back of my head.
Edit: awesome pics BTW.

I will admit I am a little puzzled why his head is so small though as a broader head would not block his Transformation in anyway - it's like they accidentally made it 15 or 20% to small.
Like everyone says yeah the shoulder do indeed really suck, you know what really especially sucks that they repainted him and they didn't fix the issue with the shoulders on the repaint. even just some tightening of the hinges would have helped as well as making the pegs inside his chest a better fit.
Though if you really wanted to rag on that toy you could criticise that it has no underneath storage of the sword and the chest plate drags on the ground in vehicle mode - yet if they chest plate didn't move it wouldn't drag (though it pushes the wheels out of whack) so simply not having the chest plate move would have been a better design plan.
If you forget to fold it down it barely effects the toy aside from pushing the front wheels out of track a little so there is no reason for that part to move as all it's going to do is get unclipped and lost when it comes to many kids owning it.
-----
I also got Jazz he suffers from the usual hideous amount of missing paint - but he's more or less colourful enough in robot mode I guess.
He's weapon is a bit 'Nothing special' and again there is no reason it couldn't store underneath if they'd designed him properly.
They also got lazy with the implementation of the chest Transformation leaving to him looking a bit wide - and the design of the outer lower legs is a mess too.
So as he was cheap he gets a pass If he'd been full price I'd have been lamenting the rubbish design detail implementation in the legs and the horrific lack of paint a lot more.
He reminds me a bit of Prime Knockout who I like, but who also suffered from a horrible lack of paint but looks terrific once tarted up with a bit more paint.
I can't say I like the really obvious gaps in the legs, The head is a bit smaller than I would have liked too I also do not like that he has hinged wrists (instead of ball joints) much either.
So it was always my intention to ignore RID-15 toys until they were on clearance and I KNOW now I made the right choice - I would have been a pretty unhappy consumer to have paid full price for these and that is even more depressing knowing Jazz is one of the best figures in the line too.
To be honest I think Hasbro need to fire some people over this disastrous miss-step of a toyline (and that is probably Managers not designers). It's never a good idea for people to be able to say in complete seriousness that the better version of a toy is sometimes the Legion, the 3 step changer or the 1 Step changer - that just shouldn't happen but it does in RID-15. No wonder it looks like there won't be very much of an RID-16.
To not be a total debbie downer though I suppose the articulation is functional and adequate on the toys I've gotten so far. and they are reasonable quick to Transform - and even the clip on wheels spin OK and don't fall off (unlike knockout).
I'll try to get Optimus and Drift next I suppose.
So In conclusion they get a pass for being cheap and on sale they get a birch branch to the backside for what they are for the price they were supposed to be originally though... They definitely need to do better next time (in what ever follow up kids lines they make) I'd say.

Stores fine here!
Posted by RAR on August 11th, 2015 @ 2:16pm CDT
Oh and one other positive - I do actually appreciate toys that don't take 10 Minutes to Transform that is a bonus and as I said the Articulation level is acceptable.
I'm just fussy I also want them to think the details through a bit more before making the things and paint them a bit more.
A good example of not thinking a detail through properly is how Bumblebee's kibble should have been acting as ankles for him and instead he's left with a design subjected to falling over backwards due to his ankle support not being able to touch the ground. that should have been a simple design fix that should never have survived to the shelves.
Also the instructions are horrible they often miss out steps and they fail to mention the weapon storage too.

I've heard of him and seen him in pictures, but I've haven't delved into the arms micron bots yet.
The only "gorilla bot" I own is High Score 100.
Magnus has recently developed a bit of a game addiction with him.
