This crazy colored G1 Megatron was a proposed reissue that was ultimately scrapped because he was still too much of a gun.
Here's a couple of early prototypes for the G1 City-formers Metroplex and Trypticon.
This early concept for the G1 Predacons featured Razorclaw with a head that transformed into the head for Predaking.
Here we have a look at the G1 Unicron prototype, this version came with an orbiting moon accessory and had a voice changing feature in addition to the voice clips.
This Cyclonus prototype was originally used as a model by the animators of the 1986's Transformers: The Movie.
Lastly we have some images of the unreleased G2 Protectobots.

Ditto. 15 years ago, I saw pics of a Cyc prototype in ship mode atop a stand, and it looked so much bigger and more accurate than the real deal that I suddenly became underwhelmed by the second-hand one I'd just bought. I gotta' head back to the Space Bridge and see if there's a pic confirming this is the same one.
(The Jizai Toys Cyclonus is still prettiest, though)
And the G1 Unicron toy would've had a moon that looked THAT MUCH like Dead End?!?!?!? Was this already widely known? Or at least to the Armada design team? No, wait, there was a moon in Floro Dery's sketches, so 'ol Bug and this thing could've both just been based on that, even without these pics.

If they do a Condor-Verlag covers themed set next year, it would indeed make perfect sense.RiddlerJ wrote:I think we got the color scheme for a Botcon version of Classics Megatron.

I wish they had some alt decos of Trypticon. It's such a sweet mold (though I prefer my Gigastorm to him, just because that horn looks totally badass and Predacons rule ).

I doubt it. Judging by how many went apes**t over the BW NEO proto (which as I recall, looks strikingly similar to this, though I could be remembering it wrong), I'd say it's safe to say there's plenty who would be interested in it.

I honestly can't decide.
On one hand, it's hideous, nothing like his movie self, I look at it and all I can do is laugh. I can't imagine this as a being that consumes planets.
On the other hand, it's novel, weird, quirky, the sort of thing you want for your collection!

That Cyclonus is amazing.
Thank god they scraped that Predaking transforming head design.....yikes, It's ridiculous.

I swear, I can never get over how hilariously huge Cyclonus's head was compared to his body.
Pretty neat how Unicron's moon and odd deco influenced the design of Armada Dead End (Unicron's Mini-Con that transformed into a moon, for those unfamiliar with Armada) and his deco in Energon, respectively.
Metroplex's face looks "bleh".

The Cyclonus prototype looks somewhat better than the finished product. For one, he looks sleeker without the stickers, but also, he's got real fists and the landing gear doesn't run across his chest.
Looks like Ocatne also fell short of his prototype.

Metroplex's face mess is probably due to the reflection (his mirror chrome face). A lot of decals were omitted in the final version................a pity.

Hehe, I got the same vibe from him. Very Gojira indeed !

That makes sense, considering the orange barrel.

or this guy:
Metroplex looks really blinged out. I dare say it wasn't a prototype for Transformers, but for its originally intended Diaclone release.

The Spacebridge wrote:Not a bootleg, fake or "lunchtime special" These toys were made as samples by Takara for Hasbro. They would then be offered as exclusives or prizes to retailers if they wanted to run a promotion. So if Wal*Mart wanted to run a Transformers competition these would be offered to them by Hasbro as a possible prize. Most likely not used as Japanese size missiles so "unsafe" in the United States. These are original Hasbro internal pictures.

I guess there's no precedent for a name to assign to the all silver guy, right? Just "Silver Star" perhaps, if one works backwards from CHMS's chrome guys, but it'd be nice if the Space Bridge dug up an official name so that guy could have his own TFWiki page.

Also, they remind of the all chrome Power ranger figures that were released for the movie. They were cool.

Starscream wrote:I own one of the all silver ones and a colored chrome one. They are very nice. It's been hard to pinpoint what they are exactly, but these photos definitely help. I have kept them in their Takara anniversary box. It's funny because although the colored one is of the TFC 9 mold, it is in the anniversary box.
Would that be the same box E-hobby Sunstorm came in? And is there any indication that it's supposed to be a new character? Well, don't open a sealed box of something that rare just to find a bio-card, of course, but it'd be neat if you happened to know.

I think you might be miss-understanding what these things. There is no canon surrounding them, they are just real-world one-off manufacturing samples. Not really mass-produced.
They just shove them into the Takara Reissue seeker box that Starscream came in.
You can see some photos I posted today here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulfriemel/sets/72157594327955633/
Here is the Chrome Starscream. The megatron accessory is below the bubble tray.
here is how they look in the box
