Thanks to Seibertronian rodimusconvoy13 we have a new sighting for the Combiner Force toyline for you guys to check out. The new figures in question are 3-steps Grimlock and Thunderhoof in new Combiner Force packaging, which as a result includes some sort of action gimmick for each. Thunderhoof appears to be a repaint of his original 3-step version but with darker colors and some sort of gimmick involving a 'hyper hook' while Grimlock appears to be a whole new mold with a 'hyper swoop' gimmick (Dino-pun intended?). These figures were found in a Meijer in Ann Arbor, MI, so head on out and start hunting these new 3-steps!

Combiner Force Windblade review

The new one with the new face mask !!!

-----

I'm interested to see what the new 3 steps are like the Bumblebee & Optimus are modified or new Mould and I wonder what Thunderhoof's hook is like in a practical sense.

I wonder if they'd make that shark that you can use as a bath toy ?

Quite possibly - but that raises an interesting thought - why stop making the shows at all - just keep making them in blocks of 6 that tell a contained story - they can do that with Rescue Bots too and tie the mini-season into the theme of the toys.

The reason I was mentioning it in the 1st places was due to marketing of the toys - as I don't follow the show very closely so I'm mainly interested in it as a means as to how it's related to the Toyline and the way it's sold to us.

All new molds, I assure you. You can't really replace a gimmick of a toy with a new one. Thunderhoof on the other hand looks like a straight redeco of the 3-Step. What's interesting is that gimmick name has been trademarked.

:EDIT: OK, looking closer, I'm not so sure anymore... looks like they're retools after all.

I wonder if they'd make that shark that you can use as a bath toy ?

Hammerstrike? That would be interesting to see.

Robots in Disguise Hammerstrike Soapy ?

( a soapy is the collectors names for branded character shampoo or bubble bath Bottles in case anyone doesn't know)

It would be vinyl plastic and might even float - I can see that working might even work to some extent with robot mode Bisk and Thermidor too.

I can't see anyone making such a container that isn't someone like Grimlock or Bumblebee unfortunately even though the Aquatic Decepticons would be kind perfect for it.

Another daft idea that such a thing could be put too is to make them split up the middle - have a normal bottle inside and once that is removed use the rubbery shell as a Pretender. Though that might require a lot of close product Marketing to pull something like that off. and then there is the question - what to put on & in the shells ?

Well, I'm currently planning to buy a few NuRiD deluxes, and I'd like to see what the general consensus on these guys is:
Starscream (actually Skywarp, but very few people have him in hand so far, and Scream and Warp are basically the same thing)
Stormshot

I plan to buy Stormshot. I've heard good reviews on him, and he looks good.

The Starscream mold is pretty good too, so you can go for whoever there, but I think Scream wears it so much better

I've always been a Skywarp man (unless there's a Sunstorm version, of course), and Warp's paint apps look a lot better.

Stormshot is essentially borrowing Firefly's engineering and transformation with a new trick and removed Combining capability (... ironically considering the sub-line) in much the same way TR Chromedome does with Dead End. If you liked the Aerialbots, you'll like Stormshot - especially since he sort of refines their engineering into a better single product as he has no need to sacrifice anything for combination.

Too bad there's no aquatic Autobots in this show.

(Although if you shove it over to Rescue Bots, Heatwave and High Tide would be good options.)

Hey N, I'm digging Stormshot. He has this real nice old time feel to me. Something about the simplicity and the colors. Just feels like a good ol' Transformer.

Image

Image

His guns are cool looking, and the way they combine is nice.

Image

Only thing I think could be better is his head should have been a ball joint. It's just a swivel, and hard to turn at that. With those shoulder stacks it's also impossible to turn his head 180 in alt mode. His face just sits there in the under carriage of the jet.

The Starscream mold is solid, but the plastic is very soft and I'm concerned about it holding up over time.

Stormshot is awesome, but really stands out in the RID line

Starscream is a great mold, on par with the best of RID with a fresh transformation we havent seen before (which is very impressive when you think of the 30 plus years of seekers) and how his chest is not fake. Like Chuck said, the only problem is the soft plastic used for the wings but thats because its considered a flying toy by Hasbro and has to answer to the drop test.

The Robots in Disguise Combiner team toys are coming! We know the next season will have some four member combiners with the likes of Menasor and a team Bee combiner and we were hoping we would get toys too. Well, a combiner set was found on a Toysrus database, which can be seen below. It gives us a few clues, the biggest being the price point of $50 in Canadian dollars, which is around the $40 USD price point, which is midway between Powersurge Optimus Prime and the other big power Surge figures but nowhere near the price point of a combining team done in a deluxe scale. So what we can expect is either a simplified combiner, like ROTF Devastator (done smaller) or a smaller scale combiner, made up of figures the size of the ones found in the battlepacks. These images were given to us by fellow Seibertronian Megazarak. Let us know what you think!

It's also totally possible that this is a smaller, legends-scale Combiner with it coming in a larger scale and hence larger price later - much like ROTF Devastator.

Then again its not far from the price point of 3 legends and a deluxe as a box set. I do foresee this being simlified in some way since I cant think of anything at that price point in RID that wasnt simplified.

I agree. I do see this as a sort of experiment to see if they can do combiners consistently again after the success of CW.

I can't seem to find it but last week I was looking at a site which contained the wave and assortment info for 2017 in the UK (it mentions Trypticon by name for release in the UK) for example and it had that combiner Force boxed set on the list too - I think it was pretty cheap like £30 or £35.00 if I recall.

I thought I mentioned it at the time.

You didnt, and that would have been some fun info to have. Please find it again for us. £35.00 makes sense since this could easily be a $35 toy in the US and the UK usually matches that by putting a pound sign over the same number.

If these are smaller combiners we might be seeing a return of the PCC concept, only this time with fully transforming robots that spring into limbs when combined.

Did any of you miss out on those Robots in Disguise Titan Change Heroes? For those that forgot (since this is from 2015), those were the shampoo bottle type Transformers that actually transformed. They were surprisingly fun and did what they were there to do, pleasing to a much younger audience. There is a review below as a refresher. These are back on the shelves now in case you missed the, packaged under the new Combiner Force subline, and they were found at a Toysrus in long Island by Scottimus Prime. They actually include the Titan change heroes and the older 3 step Sideswipe under the same wave.

I've just seen a press walkabout vid of the London Toyfair & there's an RID poster outside a stall at 12:04mins into the vid(it's very brief), so hopefully tomorrow(or today) when the public are allowed in....someone will be sending pics & vids of what's on display at the RID stall...my guess is....hopefully Menasor will be there(if not....then he'll be at the German one at the start of next month)

Yep, if Hasbro isn't there then the toys wont be either. The poster seems to be advertising Cartoon Network products more than anything, there's even a matching Powerpuff Girls poster opposite it, both with big CN logos on them.

I'm sorry to all of you RID fans, but I for one can not stand the Decepticon animal based alt-modes. I find it degrading to a (somewhat) honorable faction.

The only reason that I've been searching for these Tiny Titans guys is the fact that they brought back some G1 classics. I brushed this off the first time I saw it, but after looking closer and seeing Perceptor, I was sold. I spent... and hour at the store feeling all of the bags, but I've been successful and have gotten: Perceptor, Jazz, Prince Starscream, Windblade, Blaster, Galvatron, and Devastator. You can tell that I only got the ones that are currently known in the IDW comics, and not RID. I also was able to get a card of Inferno and Kickback because some fragging person slit the bags and left them behind.

I honestly hope that whoever did that, at least knows who they got, and not some little kid who has no respect for the meaning behind G1. If I spend hours feeling up the bags (and yes, I was feeling between their legs to try and find Prince Starscream's cape) then they should not be able to do what they did to cheat the rules of this twisted game.

I hate blind bags...

I get that. But then I remember my favourite group of Decepticons were the Predacons, all ruthless beastial members of the faction which showed why it was so feared. And this beast theme is kept with RID. In any case, get warrior Fracture when you have a chance, he isnt beast themed and is a great Decepticon toy :)
I hate blind bags...

Me too. There are some new ones for the Lego Batman movie and some minifigures are awesome. But if there is no way of knowing what I am getting, then there is no way I am paying $5 everytime.

Looks like I'm not wrong to only want this set. Actually looks worth it.

On another note I never thought a 5min review of such a simple toy could be so drawn out. Though it could just be that the reviewers sarcasm is annoying to me.

That makes me think less of both Hasbro and of the character both - as I thought for some desperate moment they'd done something "Original" and made a new Character flier Autobot. and not just looked at a Character list from the 1980's and thought "Right which box do we need to tick"

That is the same attitude that made me loose all interest in Gi Joe.

Not necessarily - Stormshot shares nothing in common with Jetfire/Skyfire other than being an Autobot that has a jet mode and has white in their colour scheme - and there's certainly no shortage of those in the G1 Autobot ranks - and this simply seems to be a case of them using the name and not making it a new version of the character. This happens a lot - RiD Strongarm not being a new version of Energon Strongarm, for instance. And Jetfire from Animated really not being a new version of G1 Jetfire (or any other Jetfire) either. And don't even try and tell me Armada Wheeljack is just Armada's version of G1 Wheeljack.
Just because they share a name with a character from G1 or another previous series doesn't mean it's meant to be a new iteration of the character. It can be a bit confusing and borderline in certain cases, but same name does not immediately equal same character. In fact in a lot of cases, it's likely just "well we have that name already, why not use that instead of applying for a trademark for a new name?"

It would have hurt my head if Skyblast was called Skyfire as then there would have been Jetfire and Skyfire in the same line.

I would be less irritated by Stormshot being a Skyblast homage than a Skyfire one.

I guess I am disappointed as for a moment I saw in that wave a glimmer of the idea that RID doesn't need to be just the toyline of infinite Bumblebees.

I guess there is something in my personality that just can't understand the mind set change that happened over that period that sometime around the later 1980's and early 1990's the established wisdom suddenly became that we have to be sold the same product over and over in different ways for ever.

Not that I dislike Starscream - but there is a part of me that has to wonder - would it really make the sun go cold if they used someone else as that template like Skyquake or Sunstorm say ?

Does Arcee "have" to be the go too token Female - (thank goodness for Strongarm - even if she is a name slapped sex swap on some level).

I just think this desire to endlessly repeat the past limits story telling and character development.

lets take Bumblebee now - lets fast forward to the 2020's and imagine another cartoon exists that Bumblebee is in but he's now an established leadership role one in no contention - like how Animated allowed Magnus to be in charge.

Also if we must revisit the past at least with the large cast in the past different ideas could be explored by that diverse and huge cast (same was true of Gi Joe to some extent) as you always had an Autobot that could be used to tell any given story.

They did that a lot in Season two of the original cartoon.

I'd like to see a show on Earth perhaps set in a time when the Autobots had been here for some time and in the open (sort of like how Energon open up) and we get a diverse cast of characters that rotate around a changing core - not a set core like in RID.

Perhaps RID's "Miniseries" idea is one that can be expanded on - and so they can hire a voice artist for 6 episodes not a whole run and tell as story that revolves around a particular set of individuals and then another story about others - and so on.

RID's never changing core cast is a bit boring to me it gets the odd addition sure like Drift or Windblade - but it's less often that the existing ones disappear for a while (though I think they do a bit).

RID did dip a toe in the water with this idea with making some of the Minicons central to the story - so that is a good positive example at least.

Saw Stormshot at Target tonight. Would have gotten him, but his silver face paint was smeared up the side of his red visor. Shame, he's the only new RID figure I'm really interested in right now.
