But to me, it's a clumsy, kibble-shackled mold that bears only a passing resemblance to the lithe, flexible CGI model they used for the movie. All the action sequences I saw showed Prime with a form-fitting, almost organic humanoid physique, that had extremely pliable armor plating. This toy? Nope.
Easy pass. Evasion Prime was the only no-brainer purchase of the lot, and that, only because it was so G1-friendly. So far the movie4 assortment has been a huge letdown.
Really, most of the Movie Generations are great, as is the Generations line in general.
great? that's laughable.
these figures are awful. they're cheap feeling, they lack paint, they lack articulation, and they're tiny. so no, they're FAR from great.
you're telling me that, had hasbro put in more effort, the shoulder kibble couldn't have folded up neater? the waist panels couldn't have folded up more neatly? the fuel tanks on his back couldn't have been hidden somewhere?
see.. i believe they could've done all of that.. but no, not with a simplistic line like this, that would add too many steps.. cause, you know, that's way too many steps for a kid.. cause.. apparently there are tons of kids out there with $47 to purchase this thing.
the whole line has been a failure.. there are two main line bad guys TWO. the on screen dinobots aren't even close to being in scale and aren't even close to being colored correctly.. as for the main autobots.. if you want those figure colored correctly, you're going to have to pay extra. it's ridiculous.
The whole line a failure? Now THAT'S laughable.
Some figures are better than others, and some are plain bad, but there are plenty of winners.
"Plenty of winners"... Really? You can't actually believe that... Who.. Who is a winner?
Deluxe drift?.. With that paint job, nah.. A robot that comes with FOUR swords yet has no wrist rotation.. That's not winning to me.. No ankle pivots.. It's 2014 and the damn figure costs $16, I expect its feet to stand flush.
Or how bout new bumblebee.. Once again the ankles aren't articulated, his "battle mask" aka his battle sun glasses are just plain bad. Hasbro still hasn't figured out the yellow paint vs yellow plastic problem. So.. Yet another figure that I wouldn't consider a winner.
Deluxe scorn.. First off DELUXE scorn is the first problem, it should've been a voyager.. It's red, which is ridiculous. It's got a tail arm, which is perfectly fine because it's accurate.. But not a single joint in the tail itself? Really? That's just crazy. This figure comes close to being a winner but there's just too much wrong with it.
Now you could say voyager hound.. Which I'm on the fence about.. I'm not a fan of his feet at all, they really make him difficult to balance. All of the weapons are really cool but the fact that his arms and wrists aren't articulated enough to get the best possible poses is a shame. which is similar to drifts problems. His color, like all of the figures is plain wrong.. And, for me at least, getting his weapons to stay tabbed in in truck mode is an absolute nightmare.. It's to the point where I don't even bother putting them on the truck.
Galvatron comes close to being a winner.. But he's got no depth.. His color is awful, all of the molded details are lost, no wrist articulation.. And again he should've been larger.
The rest of the line doesn't even come close to winning.. Not by a long shot.
I understand that not every figure is going to be perfect.. But I expect the good to outweigh the bad.. It doesn't with this line.. Now take a figure like Takara's armada starscream.. No ankle pivots, no wrist swivel, simpler transformation.. Yet it's a great figure because it has a wonderful paint job, an accurate color scheme, looks good in both modes, and everything stays secure in jet mode. That's a winner.
And don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the movies, they're not great but they're fun.. And I've really enjoyed the toys.. But AOE doesn't have any gems in the line.. It doesn't have figures like ROTF leader prime, leader starscream, leader ironhide, human alliance jazz, human alliance soundwave, human alliance barricade, voyager bludgeon, deluxe battle blades bumblebee, and so on.. This line just doesn't have any figures where in a couple years, when the engineering declines even further, we're going to say, "man, I wish they still made figures the way they were in AOE".

agreed, and id also like to toss in leader grimlock: great bot mode, surprisingly intuitive transformation, badass looking melee weapon, nice sculpting and i actually like chromemegatronus wrote:These are the AoE figures I consider to be my personal "winners":Voyager Evasion Mode Optimus, Voyager Galvatron, Voyager Hound, Voyager Drift, Deluxe Scorn, Deluxe Drift, Deluxe Lockdown, Deluxe Evolution Bumblebee
i feel AOE emulates a lot of previous movie figures, without being too complex. which could arguably have been their goal.

Optimus Prime has long believed that freedom is the right of all sentient beings. He has never wavered from his belief, no matter what has befallen him in battle. Once again ready to defend the people of his adopted planet, the unyielding AUTOBOT commander prepares for battle that will allow the AUTOBOTS to reclaim their role as earth's honored protectors.

Anyway, back to the figure itself, that's a fantastic packaging option. I love how he's holding the sword. I wish his shield didn't look so stupid, though. Ugh. Part of me feels stupid for buying the same mold twice, plus nearly double the cost, but I'll consider it a Christmas present and the paint job is so exceptional that it becomes a work of art. Not to mention, the remolded features are changed enough that I can justify it to myself. Now...what the heck will I do with the original? Can't donate it to Toys For Tots because it's been opened and it's not new, but I'd rather see someone who could use it, get it.

Ironically, though the English text reads "Sword of Temenos", the Katakana beneath it reads "Temenos Sword".Autobot032 wrote:Confirms how it's said. But he does look awesome, and worth it, and the definitive version of the mold (much as I consider my APS Prime to be the definitive version of the ROTF Leader mold).

at this point, im SO happy i didnt buy takaras first leader prime. i agonized over it for a couple days but ultimately passed due to getting hasbros for half price. and there just wasnt enough of a difference between the two to pass up that price for a leader prime, or pay almost 100 bucks for takaras few extra paint apps.megatronus wrote:This is my 3rd version of the mold, between the Hasbro & Takara versions I already have. I think I ended up paying $80 for Takara's Leader Prime... which is the same as this one costs. Fail.
It's definitely an ugh, but not a regret. Had this new version not been announced, I would have been really annoyed that I let Takara's first version go. It's covered in silver paint, and the paint apps and chrome are much more strategically placed.

What happened to transforming them and the wheels going in the right place or even kibble being in the right place (if there even WAS kibble). The AOE toys are nothing but vehicle on top and robot on the bottom.. the best movie toys were the 2007 and revenge of the fallen movie release toys, from optimus prime leader class, right down to the jetfire leader class connecting to optimus and, even iron hide all the way up to part 3 was awesome (leaders class for sure)... I'm sorry, all of the AOE toys are not cool at all
What about the dinobots and voyager hound and Platinum edition OP and grimlock?Sure, there are pieces of garbage in the AOE line but these are the best. The Platinum edition OP that comes with grimlock is soo complicated. I hate transforming it .The wheels go right in voyager hound. All the dinobots except DLX Strafe hide their robot kibble very well.BTW,I agree with you on Optimus and Galvatron.I am let down by those two.Leader OP?A leader class with 20 steps?Seriously?Good grief!Still, I think the simplifying was a good job.So overall,I think Hasbro was okay with the simplifying but, they really went too far on Leader OP.

You're misinterpreting it. The original comment that GuyIncognito replied to was made an hour before you said anything. And even then, a snarky correction hardly qualifies as butthurt whining, which is what you seem to be implying. You keep trying to set yourself up as a troll, but you're being really idiotic and unintelligible about it.

After trying them, Sharpie brand no less, I completely disagree. I don't know if it's the plastic or whatever, but it just don't work. I used 3 colors. Gold, bronze, and silver. All 3 NEVER DRY! Even after weeks or months! Just rub your finger over the "painted" surface and the color is smudged out or removed.
Nah, real paint is the way to go.

Yeah, I guess all of my touch-ups are pretty small and in hard to touch crevices. I wish I had the patience, steady hand, and workspace for painting. This figure would look great with a fully silver sword. Still, I do not yet have a movie leader Prime from AoE...

I've used what, I believe, are the same exact pens you've described with great results. I once had to paint up an entire side of Universe 2008 Roabuster's combat knife. One side was painted silver on the blade, the other side left plain green. The ink-paint dried in less than a minute and never smudged. I've also thoroughly touched up an Evasion Mode Prime, adding in silver color to the smokestacks in robot mode, among other changes, and had no smudging issues. Maybe you were trying to cover some "unpaintable" plastic? Some plastics just will not take any kind of paint for some reason.

One thing is sure. MLP ponies are unpaintable with those sharpies. I only made some silver detailings on Leader AOE OP but I hated it.
However, one thing sharpies are good for (for me anyway) is to touch-up the paint-rub parts on my painted customs. Inke is thinner than paint so it's rub proof and with the right sharpies, the paint-rubbed parts are hidden well enough.
What I plan to do for the new AOE Leader OP is to cover the non-orange parts of the weapons in tape and spray paint the orange parts with silver/chrome paint. This will look awesome!
