Also of note is the designation. Whereas we were under the assumption that he would be MP-43, here we have a card saying his in MP-44. This brings up 2 questions: 1) is this just a simple mistake? and 2) if it isn't, who is MP-43? We will leave that answer up to you to debate for now.

I think Takara all but confirmed they’re at least working on that mold in an interview about Sunstreaker.
Alternate Theory:
MP-43: Megatron (BW)
MP-44: Megatron (BW), but with a different number

While I would be very pleasantly surprised, I would nonetheless be very surprised. He only had two hands in two scenes during the entirety of season 1. And neither of those scenes were in this body.

Or it could be the subtly hinted at MP Blaster. We got some new cassettes after all, he can't be too far behind. It would also make a change instead of the usual Car Bots cluttering up the line.

If it did, it would explain why the T-Rex head splits in the middle. I assume it does because of the obvious seam in the middle. Otherwise, there's no point in it being there like MP-10's crotch hole
Posted by Sabrblade on June 8th, 2018 @ 8:57am CDT
The seam could be there due to the head halves being two separate pieces screwed or pinned together if the head had to be assembled that way to accommodate any internal gimmick that might have been built into it.Nathaniel Prime wrote:Ultra Markus wrote:I wonder if the t rex head comes off to reveal a hand like the other side

Indeed. Although I thought it was just a prototype seam, perhaps its significance is demonstrating the inclusion of the (show) missile/(toy) water gun "tongue"?

In all honesty though, unless I read MP-43 Galvatron ( ), I'm not overly concerned who is the missing number is, in as much as I am sure it is someone.

Woooo
The Maximal designs should be the only ones with that much overt kibble. The only visible kibble on this form of Megs should be the two halves of the T-Rex midsection, which isn't that big surely

Indeed. Still he will look odd next to the other Season One Predacons, who all should have very little kibble (other than Waspinator).

That’s a pretty bold speculation, considering the amount of proportion-change happening with Tarantulas, Scorponok, Blackarachnia, Terrorsaur...

Well not really. The aim of Takara for this line is show accuracy. The examples you gave only really sport arachnid legs as kibble. Terrorsaur, on the other hand, has none on display. Which will be really interesting to see. Megatron and Waspinator (you could technically argue Inferno) are the only ones with kibble backpacks in Season One.

What about the Spider Thoraxes for Tarantulas and Blackarahnia? Scorponk’s Beast Mode Legs? Those things are gonna hafta go somewhere.

Terrorsaur being the one "Impossible" exception.
As I said, he will be the one I am interested to see how it's accomplished.

Blaster strikes me as one of their "tent pole" figures, something big they can release around a bunch of smaller figures. If Blaster were MP-43 he'd be coming out around the same time as the Takara Tomy Mall Shockwave and Megatron and BW Megatron and not too long after Dinobot. That's a lot of big MPs in very short time even if two of them are exclusives. Blaster is more like a mid-year release, at a time when they can also include some tape sets and a Twincast repaint.
Of course that's if this wasn't just a mistake, but we have seen numbers change before.

AllNewSuperRobot wrote:To be fair, the original toys made a good job of that. Whereas many of the Maximals were shellformers, many of the Predacons were designed better. The Spider Thorax? They were the legs and actual back of the figure. Scorponok's arachnid legs tucked into his sides, just as in the show. The original toys of the Predacons matched up to the show designs really well in hindsight. Streamlined MP releases should be easy.

Okay, I smell what you’re cookin’. Those are some fair points.
I too am curious to see how they would pull it off, don’t get me wrong. Back kibble just never bothers me.

It's not really that it bothers me, I just wasn't expecting so much.
I didn't think there was that much "Shell" to this form of Megatron.
Emerje wrote:I'm thinking that for Terrorsaur they'll be taking full advantage of his wings to help fill out his bot body since they aren't used in bot mode. He probably wont look very good from underneath, though.
Emerje
Yeah, I don't think the Beast Mode will look great from underneath. The thing to remember though is Terrorsaur wasn't as small as his toy. He was the third tallest Predacon, under Inferno and Megatron (fourth, if you include Dinobot) so they will have a lot more Bot to play around with. I do hope he will also come with the "enhanced" guns he had in Power Surge.

You’re right, he didn’t have that much shell in the cartoon.. But you can see in that animation how his beast mode sternum just disappears, and the “wings” that form on his back open up and shaped essentially just like the original toy at first, but then “mass shift” into the more streamlined shape. Unless you want partsforming, you can’t just have pieces dissolve into dissappearium. Hence, the neatly folded back kibble. And so I say, “it has to go somewhere.”
Posted by AllNewSuperRobot on June 9th, 2018 @ 8:37am CDT
The Original toy.
Again, it was just torso shell flaps on his back kibble. From the images of the prototype, it just looks like a lot more of the Beast Mode is on his back than either the show or original toy. Perhaps it will look different in colour on the finished figure?

If anyone was in doubt, strictly speaking BW Megatron only had two hands in two forms, canonically:

These new images, courtesy of Twitter users トランスフォーマー情報局 and 超偏見超変形/リベンジ, show us 2 different types of images. The first shows a promotional shot of Megatron in full color firing a blast from his Dino head in robot mode. This shows us that we will be getting blast effects, much like we are with Masterpiece Dinobot, and that his T-Rex head will be equipped with lights.
The 2nd set of images shows us Masterpiece Megatron on full display at the show, and included in his group shot are copies of Masterpiece Dinobot and Optimus Primal! No Pussycat though, boo! He is a glorious mirror image of his on-screen appearance.

Also a quick thing for people to note. Given Megatron's overall size. In terms of scale, if HasTak do move onto Season 2 aka Transmetals, this would be about what you'd be looking at...

True. But I don't think they would turn down reusing a mold. Beast Wars doesn't really have as extensive a back catalogue of palette swaps as Generation One. Some of them will only be a one to two use mold, so I doubt the opportunity would be passed up. Likewise I foresee Laserbeak and possibly Fractyl being releases after Terrorsaur.
Airazor is probably the only character I can think of, that didn't have any redecos at all

And RE: the backpack conversation.
His backpack is the sides of the dino AND the sternum. The original toy had three flaps: two sides and the chest, which hung down on the back kind of out of sight. They ditched that for the show and significantly shrank the wings, so they've had to do a lot of folding and compressing to match that here. Why is this a surprise?

If they do an MP Waspinator, they have to have his limbs be ball-jointed. That way, we can replicate his usual state in the show.
