Because retailer pay extra for exclusives. When I first preordered MP Bumbleebee back in June, the price was $79.99 then they lowered it to $74.99 so the $79.99 for the coin and possible battle mask isn't bad. I was willing to pay that much before so I look at it this way: it's a $5 raffle for a chance to get the mask and the coin is a bonus prize.

Based on those screws, I would say that Spike is about a head taller than Rumble

While I'm not 100% thrilled with the vehicle mode on 'Bee, I'm definitely psyched for the set as a whole.

Because I don't have a Masterpiece collection.

It's a good time to start. I hadn't gotten any since MP Rodimus from TRU in 2011 but since September I've gotten TRU Soundwave & cassettes, Nemesis Prime, Prowl, Sideswipe, Streak, G2 Sideswipe, plus I've got the KO of MP-10 Optimus and Fans Toys Quake Wave (MP Shockwave) both on the way. I'm selling my off Classics for space but just replacing them with MP's.

Wow Mkall, I always figured you had a Masterpiece collection because you have always shown a lot of interest in the discussions. I am curious what is holding you back? Cost, size, etc?

The cost wouldn't phase me, but I've spent so much time and energy into amassing my Classics/Generations collection that I don't want to start over.
They also come out so very slowly. I like having a massive army of Autobots and Decepticons. It would feel so very incomplete to me to have only 6ish Autobots and 10ish decepticons.

That's pretty much where I'm at right now. Granted, I've been getting MPs since they came out so I have Walmart Starscream & Skywarp and Grimlock but if you're willing to let 3rd party stuff in there's iGears Ironhide and Ratchet (which, like Quake Wave, are going to be pretty hard to beat).

a strong possibility since Volkswagen is on board and Volkswagen owns Porsche and Jazz and Cliffjumper are Porsches

TakaraTomy would need separate licenses for those models tho. Also, Volkswagen itself does not own Porsche, rather both Volkswagen and Porsche are brands that fall under the same parent company called Volkswagen Group. Coincidentally Lamborghini also falls under it. I'm sensing a trend here.

Same thing, Volkswagen Group is the current official company name, like The Coca Cola Company is the legal name for Coca Cola.
We call Hasbro Inc just Hasbro, doesn't mean that they're two companies and one of them is the parent company.
And to expand on that. Volkswagen does not directly own Lamborgini, it is owned by Audi, which in turn is owned by VW. The thing is, all those companies still function as their own companies with their respective owners being able to veto decisions on product.
So if Porsche does not want to sell their license, Volkswagen can't make them.

Dead Metal wrote:So if Porsche does not want to sell their license, Volkswagen can't make them.
While that may be true, Porsche is not as hard a nut to crack as VW. Their main concern with licencing back in the BT/Alt days wasn't so much with war toys as with reflecting the lifestyle they try to represent. A straight 935 Turbo with their racing layout should be fine. Probably. Hopefully.
It better be.

If I understood the automatic translation correctly, Hasui said that you need to open the helmet and tilt back Spike's head when you transform the exosuit.

As we all know, by now, Bumblebee comes with his human companion, Spike, in his exo-suit. Hasui shows a new and up close image of Spike's vehicle mode. According to Seibertron.com member Cyberpath, the translation says:

Bumblebee, and Spike, will see release later this year in November. Preorders are open, now.

True, but if they're going off the scale guide from the cartoon, he should only come up to the front bumper on Prowl's chest. I imagine they just don't have a lot of room to tuck panels away without making the roof a mess of panel lines.

All the MP cars are licensed cars so a deformed car would look totally out of place with the rest of the MPs.
I agree with your comment about the gimmick though since I could do without the stupid exo suit,it's just a way of justifying charging the higher price for an MP car.
The bot mode looks spot on though I'm very happy with it and gladly purchasing it even though it means I'll have a stupid exosuit that I'll never play with.
