Here it is, the biggest news of the year, the full reveal of Takara's Transformers Beast Wars Masterpiece MP 41 Dinobot.
The Japanese preorders are now out so we know the full MSRP for those ordering directly from Takara and it is 28,000 Yen. This is exactly what was initially reported. Of course, those wishing to import it themselves may be privy to retailer specific discounts however as you will see below, this is a big boy, one of the biggest Masterpiece figures yet, and the shipping for such a box could make the total cost a wash compared to what a local collectible stores are selling him at (which is around $250 USD).
Now onto this amazing reveal. Below you will see images of this beast of a figure showing a robot mode which looks like it seriously cannot transform. A shot of him with the previous Beast Wars Masterpiece figures shows he is scaled proportionally in robot mode, being more than a head taller than Optimus Primal. However, a shot of him in beast mode reveals that the scale of the robot mode was clearly the priority here. You will let us know what you think about that. A listing from Amiami gives us a full list of his accessories which can also be seen in a shot below. These, along with the electronics, might help answer for the high price of the figure. He includes a modular base which seems to be the first in a series, similar to what comes with the new Machine Robo figures. You will see no mention of a different set of eyes for the raptor mode but that is because the eye changing gimmick is probably similar to MP Grimlock's where the eyes are not a seperate piece that must be removed to be changed. The full list of accessories will be found after the images that were found on the Snakas blog (initially originating from a now removed Amazon Japan listing).
This figure is scheduled for a July 2018 release.

Masterpiece Dinobot looks great ... except for the glaring "hole" near his hips in Velociraptor mode. Other than that, he looks fantastic.
I would have preferred a smaller version of him though. While I know he was sometimes shown as being much taller than the other Maximals, I think him being just a little bit taller instead of a lot taller would have been better. The group shot picture is kind of hard to tell what's going on exactly because of the camera angle pointing upward and Optimus Primal being in an action pose.

But considering its still quite a ways away, it gives me time to save up before actually pre-ordering.

DO, however, wish that it came with the second disc. Let me guess... the second will come with BW Megatron?
Posted by Stormshot_Prime on November 12th, 2017 @ 6:25pm CST
Also are we probably not getting MP Rattrap and Rhinox because of their Generations toys?
Posted by Sodan-1 on November 12th, 2017 @ 7:04pm CST
Hope they continue and do the whole season 1 cast. Probably never happen though.
Posted by shajaki on November 12th, 2017 @ 7:36pm CST
I'm left wondering... is he only going to look good at certain angles?
Other gripes... the eye beams are conjoined with a webbed look, and I really hope you can make his eyes green without said beams. Also, only one disc? He shoulda come with both because of their pivotal significance, or neither. Megatron stole the Golden Disc, and Inferno found the Alien Disc.
Other than that, I can't say I'm not floored. But I need to see some high res up close's of his face(s)!
Posted by -Kanrabat- on November 12th, 2017 @ 7:49pm CST
I dunno if I'll ever get him because he will be so expensive. But that BW MP will definitely be on my radar.
Posted by Blastback on November 12th, 2017 @ 8:12pm CST
But man, it's gonna be a while before I can afford this.

Stormshot_Prime wrote:Also are we probably not getting MP Rattrap and Rhinox because of their Generations toys?
I think they will come. Especially Rhinox since the generations toy is way too small for the right scale.
-Kanrabat- wrote:Holy crap, that MP Dinobot! I can forgive all the panel lines for the dino mode because the bot mode is so perfect. Also, no feet on chest for the dino mode. And for once, the bot is BIG and not a flimsy deluxe. Cheat chest in bot mode? I forgive thee, OH noble warrior.
What I find super cool is how that chest is not truly fake. Its his underbelly in robot mode, so a part of the alt mode (jut not the head).

Additionally, via the Takara Tomy website, a feature on the figure lets us know that the raptor mode does indeed have changeable eyes, the robot mode's eyes can be lit up green or red, and we get a better look at the back of the figure and the 'ladder magic' (we need a new name..) that hides the beast mode panels in robot mode.
Check them all out below, as we also get further confirmation that yes, the figure will cost 28000 Yen (approx 250 USD) and is due for release in July 2018!

21340Y. Cheaper by 8000Y from retail. No Issue whether the sales tax is not included whatnot.........still cheaper! CHEAPER!

July is a long way from now though, maybe something will change in that time. Either the price or my willingness to pay it.

I am still really on the fence about the price though. That is just... I could somewhat justify MP-36 because he is the big con leader himself, but even though I do love Dinobot and need him for my Beast Wars guys, he is still more expensive than I really want to pay.
Argh, decisions.

I'm incredibly faithful to HasTak, but come on. Everyone's beef with this pricepoint is completely legitimate and justified. He shouldn't cost any more than Ironhide or Ratchet. And while I personally liked MP Tracks, peoples beefs with it were also legitimate.fenrir72 wrote:Please support Takara by purchasing this item at PO release prices and not wait for them to go on sale! But even though he's priced high, I bet there's enough people like me out there to support it. And let's not fool ourselves, Dinobot is probably the most beloved TF character outside of G1, and easily in the top 10 of all time. Mark my words, he will sell out.

Alright, I've been thinking a lot about this, and now that I've had some time to scope out some pics, I think that, like MP 36, this price-point might be a bit more fair than we're willing to admit.
First of all, have you seen this guy? He's made up almost entirely of panels - that are also pinned together, that's a huge parts-count, a lot of molds, and a ton of time on the assembly line, that's a lot of man hours spent designing and qc-ing him, then there's the electronics and his size, not to mention his complex paint job - which looks gorgeous. I mean, he's so complex, his beast mode feet swap places with his bot mode hands and conceal themselves in his biceps, and he still has this much articulation for gods sake! His torso might be weirdly deep, but this is truly a master-craft of engineering.

THAT SAID, if they do an MP of Blackarachnia I will buy the everloving slag out of it. For one, she's my favourite character (which in a show with as stellar a cast as BW is damn impressive), for another I've met Venus Terzo, who is absolutely lovely, and finally I actually really like her design, as silly as it was (those claws though, homina homina). Plus, being a massive spider as opposed to a real-world vehicle, she can fit in with basically any display and not stick out scale wise. Burgeoning MP collection? Sure, she's from the same continuity anyway so why not. Mismatched disparate CHUG collection? Yep, I see no problem, even (especially) if she's gigantic, a massive spider that dwarfs tanks would be awesome. Legends? Well, maybe that's pushing it a bit, unless whoever she takes an interest in has a thing for giantesses.
Hot, poisonous and deadly spider-waifu must be mine.

Plus, she'd be relatively simple to engineer, I just hope they stay away from tackling any of the impossible ones (terrorsaur, waspinator) for now and focus on the do-able ones. There's already a great template for rhinox and rattrap, Meg's would be super easy, and scoponk could just be an update of the original toy with better proportions - easy...

Well, I see you still don't understand that exceedingly simple point I was making many months ago about AmiAmi and sales tax even though everyone else got it. Whatever, keep taking what you think are cheap jabs at me while proving your ignorance, I'm fine with that.
As for Dinobot's backpack, I'm more impressed they were able to cram so much inside him and that's all we got. I was more concerned about the back of his tail weapon looking like the Universe figure's, but it looks like they did a good job of blending it in.

Good thing they never actually looked "furry" in the show, then. Terrorsaur would be a challenge, but I think there are some creative solutions that could make him work. Waspinator should be fairly easy, the Deluxe Generations figure is a good starting point, but with an even more complex transformation and no flapping wing gimmick.

It is just such a well done looking figure from the pics that I couldn't pass this one up. plus the sheer fear of it selling out and not being able to get it at all.
I guess I will be packing my lunch for the next few months to set aside for this guy.

Terrorsaur (to be in scale in bot mode with everyone else) would be almost 100% impossible, because his beast mode is so scrawny and the wings are so large, I just don't think it can be done to the standard that TT is trying to set with the bw mp's, and I think TT's efforts would be best served rolling out a MP BW Megs (omg, if he's in scale with primal, he'll be huge )
Posted by fenrir72 on November 13th, 2017 @ 10:05pm CST
As for the price range....the R and D is the great mucho eater of the cost. Not to mention the materials (wished Takara's had ditched the electronics though).
And Takara would probably need to sell at least 4000 units to recoup the cost ( just like the upcoming Grand Maximus release). This part is relevant though as we have some idea on the real financial status of the company that does the heavy lifting providing us fans with our plastic crack.
Look at what happened to the JP company CMS? All gone and their pricing was also waaaaaaaaaay out there.
I'm gonna offset the cost on my PO with the credits I'm accumulating at Amiami(with my Arcadia SDF-1 coming among others 8 months from now)

What I'm thinking is tha they might have make his alt mode just a little out of scale to give them some "meat" to work with. It might be possible to do some extreme wing origami to form part of the arms since they'd have to get the tiny wings onto them somehow and there isn't enough space to fake it. I was thinking that rather than hiding the pteranodon head they could use it to help fill out the legs instead. If done wrong he might end up fragile and full of panels, but the same can be said for Dinobot and Cheetor.
