Takara Website Update - MP-1B Masterpiece Convoy Black Version

Very nice! If this is officially called "Convoy Black Version" then there shouldn't be continued griping about the Autobot symbol.

Comic? COMIC!!! Does this mean that Masterpiece will finally be getting its first piece of fiction!?

Hopefully that comic will tell us who this guy is (and what time period he's from).

maybe this is the undead Optimus..like when he truned black on the table in the TF movie..

I think that this could be like the Hybrid Style Convoy Black Version with respect to the fiction behind the character. Yoshioka Hidetsugu created the manga included with that figure just like he's taking care of the manga for MP-1B. Maybe this Convoy Black Version will also use a "Blackbody" coating for explaining the colour scheme.

That's very possible. But I wonder if the manga would be either A) a retelling of the fight between Prme in his Black Body and Galvatron II, B) an original story taking place prior to that fight, or C) an original stroy taking place after that fight.

Any of those scenarios would be just dandy with me. I'm simply eager to see what is cooked up for this figure's fiction and I really enjoy Yoshioka Hidetsugu's art.

Well, who says this is an evil Prime? It could still be Optimus. Not every black Prime is evil.

I didn't say it's an evil prime. But for those of us that have been waiting for a MP Nemesis Prime, the upgrade kit would be a great idea. No one is forcing anyone to mod their Black Convoy into Nemesis Prime.

I didn't mean to imply that there was an insinuation that people should be forced to mod MP-01B, and I apologize for any misunderstanding.

It's just that from the first moment the news of this figure leaked, it seemed like half the people putting in their 2 cents were flustered because "Nemesis Prime" had Autobot symbols. The outrage! There seemed and still seems to be sentiment that having a black coloured Convoy/Optimus Prime is somehow wrong if it has Autobot symbols.

Now granted that the online vendors were labeling it "Nemesis Prime" so that is just cause for confusion but at the same time, there was no official statement of the figure's name. Also, the fact that manga is being included with this MP figure, which is drawn by the same artist who created the manga for Hybrid Style Convoy Black Version/THS-02B, may very well mean that this is not an evil Convoy/OP.

I totally understand that not every black prime HAS to be Evil/Nemesis Prime. I have left my Alternity Black Convoy and THS-02B the way they are and don't consider them Evil/Nemesis Primes. But PERSONALLY if given the chance to purchase an upgrade kit to mod the MP-01B into a MP Nemesis Prime I would jump at the chance. Others are more than welcome to leave their's as they are, it will not bother me one bit their MP-01Bs are Black Convoys and not Evil/Nemesis Prime. I think it's perfectly fine to think of the figure as either, it's a matter of PERSONAL opinion.

I definitely agree.

Reading these posts makes me wanna go look and see how many black Optimus Prime/Convoy redecoes there are that are not evil.

Now my question is: Does this comic constitute as an ehobby "extra" or "give-away" product or is it included in the MP-01B's packaging like a sticker sheet, accessories, and instructions? Maybe I'm overreacting but I'm really hoping I don't miss out on the manga.

So,yeah, hmm, battle droid copies of Convoy? I'm not feeling that but there's 12 pages of comic to elaborate further and the fiction is just the icing on the cake for me. I'm just eager to have my first MP Convoy/Optimus and maybe I'll be able to score MP-01 in the future without paying too much more than original pricing.

Maybe this is all a hint that the next MP will be none other than... GALVATRON!!!

All repaints aside, i still reckon the next masterpiece should be Galvatron, then they could repaint him as Galvatron 2

I also think that it would be great if an upgrade kit was created to make this black convoy into nemesis prime, though im warming to the autobot symbol and the fact that he is just a black variant of optimus, i mean, look how beautiful the car robots black god magnus turned out, and that doesnt represent anything evil atall

So, this is picking off from the Hybrid Style manga, eh? Figures.

Note to everyone, Galvatron II is not the same guy as Megatron/Galvatron. In fact, this is the same Galvatron II from the Marvel Comics. He crossed over from that comic universe into the Japanese cartoon universe with a bunch of Warworlds at his disposal. Upon his arrival, Ultra Magnus was restored to life as Laser Ultra Magnus in order combat Galvatron II's threat. However, Laser Ultra Magnus could not defeat Galvatron II. But, by becoming upgraded into his Black Body once again, Optimus Prime took on Galvatron II and defeated him.

This has nothing to do with the comic, but does he still have those Grimlock and Megatron computer arm thingys or does it have a different picture?

So, is this a limited release? If its on Takara's site does that mean it will see the same numbers produced as past Masterpieces?

If its a limited run then £99 doesnt seem so bad but for a simple repaint I am on the fence on this one, despite my love of the Masterpiece range.

I don't know if it's a limited run so at £99, I would say that if you already have a version of MP-01, you really don't need MP-01B unless you must have a black MP Optimus Prime.

I pre-ordered MP-01B for $104 USD, granted the shippnig is about $35, but it's still a pretty darn good deal. I don't have an MP OP so 01B will be my first and unless I can really find an affordable MP-01, it'll probably be my only MP OP for a good long while.

I have 20th Anniversay Prime, MP Ultra Magnus and MP Perfect Convoy and Im not sure I could justify a 4th at that price if its a "normal" release. Limited runs are different.

Whenever I ordered Transformers from e-Hobby the comics were never included inside the package. They usually come in their own plastic pouch. Some folks who ordered e-Hobby exclusive Omega Supreme from online retailers were disappointed that the comic wasn't included.

If that's the case, I assume it wouldn't be included from BBTS either... Does e-hobby even accept overseas orders? I'm not sweating it too much as I assume it wasn't much of an option anyhow if it's exclusive to e-hobby...and really my interest in the mango comic would be minimal at best either way. Now a mango slurpee on the other hand...

Attention! Those who are interested in the manga that is being made for the MP-01B, please be aware that it doesn't seem like it is going to be included with the early November 2009 units.

Automaton Toys recently updated their MP-01B listing and noted the following:

Our supplier is not able to provide the E-Hobby leaflet/comic book at this time due to the unusual early release in Asia, two months before the official release.

With that said, this item has indeed an ETA of November 2009 at Automaton! Reserve yours today!

Please remember: no E-Hobby Comic Book/promo leaflet will be included with this item. If our supplier is able to provide them later, we will ship those to the customers who bought at least 1 E-Hobby MP-01 Black.

So...I placed a pre-order for the MP-01B with Robot Kingdom due to the significant savings I would get but I do want the manga...
