I'm still unsure. The transformation is really nice and meaty but also super delicate. I see myself breaking him after transforming him multiple times, especially those clear plastic tabs. One thing though, I no longer have any issue with the backpack, it just makes him look a bit more beefy but I have no problem with that. If I were to get him, he would actually serve as Rodimus Prime next to Arcee, Springer and CW Ultra Magnus since the added bulk works well with that leader character.

I'll still pick him up. The transformation looks fun, and most of all, a billion times simpler than MP Rodimus Prime. Some of the pieces on previous MPs are delicate as well, so that's not an issue for me.

And with that review now up, shouldn't be too long. I think this person did the same with CW Magnus and he was out only 3 weeks after the video widespread :BOT:

Egads, man! You didn't get this? Stop whatever you are doing and go and watch Spaceballs now! Not later, not in a few moments, but get yourself into ludicrous speed and watch Spaceballs now!

As for Hot Rod? Pretty. Nice-looking transformation, even in spite of the shell-flipping and folding. But very pretty in both modes. Too bad he can't roll.

honestly i like it quite a bit, only that i like the other one more, anyway, looking at him i think if a third party company wanted, would do a new chest that folded just a bit better, is not even much what it is needes just half a centimeter on heach side of the headlights and thats it

As much as I dislike the back pack I realise there is nothing else they could do to get the transformation to work (Takara\Hasbro need to invent mass displacement for real).

I like the transformation look solid enough to me looks like everything will stick in place once transformed (unlike MP09)

Disappointed with the ground clearance in Alt mode but I guess bigger wheels would be to big for the mould and back pack (come with read tyres).

I will still pick this guy up despite my above objections so I can finally have MP-28 as hotrod and keep MP-09 as my Rodimus Prime.

Spaceballs is on my list of fave movies of all time up there with transformers and the goonies. Introduced my gf to it recently and only during that viewing I picked up on the Kafka joke!

Re this guy... Well I'm a sucker and I'll get him even if he isn't my fave. I stopped collecting mp's with rodimus cos I couldn't find him at a decent price and I wasn't super convinced. Think this guy will look great next to Magnus just the same (fell back in love with the mp line after sideswipe).
Re: TakaraTomy MP-28 HotRod Video Transformation (1762888)

And again, I think we should buy mp-09 and mp-28, because when hot rod gets the matrix, he grows like 2x as tall, mp-09 is too tall, mp-28 is a little too small, but again, he is supposed to be that, I would just buy the toys r us exclusive, and the mp028, and get it over with, mp-28 looks good, fanstoys looks okay. I would buy mp028 first though.

I think the FANS TOYS version folds up better, at least we know this guy is just a few months from release and who knows when FT will be released.
Re: TakaraTomy MP-28 HotRod Video Transformation (1762908)

Well, he definitely transforms it wrong. The shoulders shouldn't be folded in to the front end until after the chest is flipped up. He even has to bow he parts he just assembled out around before it has clearance and the head isn't tucked all the way up. Properly transformed, it'll roll just fine. Not that I actually care. The wheels could be glued in place and I'd still get it. I'm not buying it to play with a toy car, I'm buying Hot Rod!

You can't go for the "everyone knows this" joke, WJ!! Only then do you see who is actually paying attention :-D

Also, still excited for this guy, even with the mistransformation video. Hey, I missed some panel pegs the first time I transformed MP Sideswipe. Then I said you dumb bastard, that's not a schooner it's a sailboat. Panels fit together, Sideswipe was beautiful.

Everything was right in the world after.

What about a "what's wrong colonel sanders? Chicken? " joke or "merchandise! Where the real money from the movie is made! "

I really need to make a Mel Brooks appreciation thread at some point.

Speaking of magic eye, there were star wars themed cereal boxes in the late 90s for the big rerelease ofthe original Star Wars trilogy and on the back of the boxes there were magic eye images. I didnt know how those worked back then but i do now so if anyone knows a link to those, send me a PM.

Rewatched the movie.

Other than the red gap thing on the torso in robot mode - the toy is actually pretty cool after giving it another look.

I'd buy it, if I hadn't missed the boat on other earlier MPs :(

I started late (just last year) with my MP collecting, but there are enough reissues out there that I was able to buy everything at retail prices or just about. You could do the same.

Considering it, thats for sure. The more expensive ones like Grimlock, Prime, Starscream might be a bit tough to afford, but maybe I can stretch to them for Christmas or something :)

Those are the ones that intimidate me, but Ratchet and Wheeljack are the ones I am really going for, though Hot Rodimus and some others are on my list too. (Oh and Shockwave.)

Edit: If Hasbro doesn't come out with a voyager Rodimus Prime in the TR line soon to go with Galvatron, I'll probably get the MP Hot Rodimus since they seem to scale well.

Prime is still at retail price. I would recomend getting him first in your list of priorities because once he is no longer at retail, the aftermarket prices will be murder. We've lived through it before.

It doesn't look terrible, just more toy-like. >:oP Doesn't look bad to me, just less Gundam-like. Though I wish Masterpieces had the same if not more articulation than the "Build Fighters Build Burning Gundam", I am reasonable.

Some Gundams do transform ;-) though it didn't become a thing till zeta Gundam aired (which broadcast in the era where macross had really populised transforming mecha in Japan)

Some do indeed, but as an ex-collector of gundam models, i can tell you that most transforming ones are quite flimsy and fiddly, and not a pleasure to transform. They're best left in 1 form. I even went so far as to buy doubles, for mecha mode and alt mode.
